I asked Mr. Frank Thomas, the Executive Director of the Nevada Sheriff's and Chief's Assoc. when they were going to release the list of reciprocal states for CCW. This is the email that he sent me dated 9/20/07

Sir, that issue was just taken up by the Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association today and there will be a formal announcement coming out next week. The information will be posted on NV Department of Public Safety website along with the Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' website before October 1, 2007. Please note that this is not reciprocity but rather it is recognition. Some of the states that Nevada will recognize their CCW permit may not automatically recognize Nevada's CCW permit.

UTAH is on the list

I just spoke with Mr. Frank Thomas, the Executive Director of the Nevada Sheriff's and Chief's Assoc.

He confirmed that UTAH is on the list.

I just got the paperwork for VA non-res, hopefully that will be good too. No way NY will be. :banghead:

Good luck!

I'm in CA and visit my dad in Reno regularily. I have a CA CCW and I'm sure CA will never recognize others but it would be great if NV would recognize my CA permit. I can get a NV permit for us out-of-staters, but it takes a while and I can carry a loaded gun in a vehicle there anyway.

First, Congrats where do you live? In Los Angeles County it's nearly impossible to get one. Second, I told him i lived in CA he said it was NOT on the list. CA doesn't recognize any other states and they don't recognize CA.

It was noted earlier that Utah made the list. Is that for non-resident Utah Permits as well, ???

Question

If FL gets on the list would I be allowed to carry in FL on my NV CCW?
I know I should just get my FL permit but cash is tight right now.

gunsmith....only if Florida reciprocated. Nevada may honor FL permits, but FL may not agree to honor NV permits.

That's why I'm hoping Oregon is on the list and decides to reciprocate and honor NV permits. That means I could get my permit in NV (where I am a resident) and use it in Oregon (where I live and go to college but am not a resident). However, if Nevada recognizes OR permits but OR doesn't reciprocate, I'm back to square one (which is not being able to rely on getting a permit in OR because OR is not a shall issue state to non-residents, only to residents, and not really needing to get one in NV because I spend so little time there).

i hope NV allows full reciprocity with whatever states it decides to honor. i hate it when they allow "in-state residents only", meaning that if you live in TX but have a FL CCW then they won't allow reciprocity of that FL permit, if they allow reciprocity of the FL CCW normally (since you'd have a non-resident permit, which on the FL license is very obvious since your TX address is listed on there).

im glad UT is on their list. i think everyone qualifies for one of those, almost! lets just hope there no "resident" requirement.

How will concealed carry with and out-of-state CHL work in Clark County, which requires pistol registration?

i think that the CCW has nothing to do with pistol registration in Clark County, aka the infamous "blue card." you'll still have to get a blue card within 24 hours of coming into Clark Co. with a handgun, regardless of having a CCW or not. so i dont see it being any different.

This is good news as I have family in LV.

Re: Oregon. I CCW'd in Oregon for several years when I lived there and had occassions to speak with Sen. Jason Atkinson re: carry laws for Oregon. I'm sorry to inform that unless things have radically changed in the 4 months since I have left Oregon I can tell you that you may be waiting a LONG time before Oregon recognizes anyone. You may be better served getting a Non-resident NV permit in Reno (as I almost did before I moved) than waiting for Oregon to recognize anyone. I don't know of any effort in the Oregon legislature that has any momentum to allow Oregon to be less restrictive in its gun/carry laws. Sorry. I moved to FL and I can carry just about anywhere in the South East.

gbran,

I live in Kern County, which I think holds the greatest number of ccw's in CA. I think over 4K.

YES very friendly county for CCW.

phorvick,

It doesn't differentiate resident or non-resident So...YES non-resident appears to be OK.

Spreadfire Arms,
i hope NV allows full reciprocity

It is NOT a recrprocity as they will not be signing agreements with states, they will HONOR those states permits.

Nitrogen,

As Spreadfire Arms states you still will be required to register your firearms and get a "Blue Card" in Las Vegas/Clark County within 24 Hrs of arrival. The PD closes @ 8:00 pm M-F and 6:00 Saturday.

The procedure is simple:

Go into any PD/SD and tell them you are there to register your CCW firearms under the Blue Card program. They will ask to inspect the gun(s) and run the serial numbers to see they are not stolen and are registered to you. There is NO limit to the number of Guns you can register. Complete the paperwork ans leave with a "Blue Card"
