You heard me...I javent heard much mention of there being any Nevadans on the boards...but I am sure they are out there.

I want to get together and SHOOT! Have a big outing or something. Let me know who is interested.

We talkin' Northern or Southern Nevada?

Desert or range?

Who's bringing the chips?

I'm in Vegas and with a couple days notice I'm up for about anything.

GL

Southen NV here.

Indoors or out?

Desert or range?

My GF's parents live in Pahrump, so I usually go out to Lovell Canyon and make a little noise on one of the monthly trips out thataway, or else we go out to the dry lake bed in Pahrump with her Pa and Brother.

Lotsa desert around, but the city has grown into all the old places I used to get to real easy (Summerlin, McDonalds Ranch, Southern Highlands, etc).

Might be time to re-join the Desert Sportsman R & P Range (642-9928) out by Red Rock and the L.V. Gun Club (645-5606) out on Tule Springs.

Sure wish the County would get their act together on the proposed "mega" range north of town they keep talking about.

I'm pretty busy thru July tho' so it'd have to be during the cooler month of August :D afore I could really free up some time.

Say the word arinvolvo and goldenloki. There's a couple of guys and gals over on Glocktalk here (LV) you might want to invite as well (I even have a glock or five if it comes to that).

I usually travel up to Reno once a month or so on business so that'd also be a fun trip... specially a weekend when the Reno Hilton hosts the Reno Gun Show (three times a year I believe).

Once a year, I get to feeling real brave and cross the border into the foreign territory known as California, just to take some high capacity magazines and thumb my nose at the legislature... looks just like NV if ya don't go too deep into alien territory, but I'd sure hate to get caught "breaking one of their sovereign laws against humanity".

Maybe a quick get together at the Montoya's American Shooter Range for an informal indoor session over a weekend morning (I can miss church now and then for a good reason)

I am also in the vegas area....Im not real big on the indoor ranges...BUT, the legality of most of the desert areas I shoot at is iffy.

The Boulder City complimentary range is no longer complimentary....that really gets me...:banghead: :cuss:

I normally shoot off of the 15 south, at the sloan exit. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Apparently that is still in the county limits, but I have seen and talked to LEOs that shoot out there....they say it is a dont ask dont tell kinda thing. Just be safe, and pick up after yourself. I dont know....I go out there personally...but I would feel horrible if I invited a bunch of people, and everyone got their stuff consfiscated.:uhoh:

SOOOO...if anyone has good ideas about where to go, or if they dont mind having their stuff taken away:rolleyes: , let me know.

Sloan exit, heading south easterly down yon gravel road or over to the west by the Rail Road tracks?

I sometimes go out past Goodsprings towards Sandy Valley or up thru Goodsprings towards Potosi/Birdsprings.

You might want to stop in Floyd Coon's Master Shooter Supplies on Sahara and see if he still offers maps of "authorized" shooting locations in Clark Co. (if they still exist... I've heard thru the grapevine that most shooting in the desert is now taboo via County ordinance).

arinvolvo, et al... if you're able, you might want to see about taking the LVMPD's Citizens Police Academy course and go shooting on Metro's range up by Sunrise Mtn. as part of the course. Once you've graduated, you can join the Alumni Association and shoot against the local boys in blue once a year. Get in good with the range masters and ask questions, etc. Great group of people.

edited to add link to Clark County Shooting Park (proposed as of yet... but getting closer)

I am in Pahrump. I would join you guys if my schedule permits. It seems like every time something like this comes up, I am working or something.
Baba Louie, that dry lake bed just south of Pahrump is pretty much all in California. Watch what you do out there. I used to shoot there all the time, blissfully unaware that I was in occupied territory. I am not sure what is legal and what isn't, but I wouldn't be out there with the machine guns or the AR. I shoot near there, off of Homestead road. It is still in free territory. There is also a designated shooting area in the North end of town way, way out on Bel Vista road, there is a sign. Of course the locals are making sure we keep up our sterling image by dumping junk out there.
There is a Nevada section on the AR15.com board. http://www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=8&f=22 they shoot every month down there near Sloan where you guys are talking about. They call it the Desert Buffet (DBS-Desert Buffet Shoot). Lots of full auto stuff. Check out the link and you can read about it; they have a thread every month and Larry usually posts pictures taken at the last shoot. I personally have never been there but I know some of the guys that go. Not to be an eliteist or anything, but I don't get a kick out of going out and shooting junk and making noise. I don't know if that is what they do there, but I got that impression.

When you get something together, let me know. I would like to just get together and get to know some more shooters from Southern Nevada. I have met one guy on this board; we talked here and then met at the gunshow. I get in on the group buys of ammo at AR15.com. I know Larry from the gunshows; he lives in Pahrump but I have never seen him out here. I can always use some more shooting friends.

Those of you in Southern NV, check out the link on my last post for some (maybe... hopefully) great news concerning the shooting park. Also check out the map of legal shooting areas contained therein... or maybe I should have phrased that, the legal areas we CANNOT shoot within.

What about having the USA Olympic shooting team housed here (LV) along with the related sponsers, mfgs., etc.?

Designs are ready, I gather, I just think that one of us needs to weasle our way into either the committee or become one of the flys on the wall who watch the progress. It seems to even have the blessings of our illustrious powerhouse in the Senate, the Honorable Harry Reid D-NV, so who knows... maybe the world IS changing a little for the better.

444, thanks for the advice on the dry lake...(oops) and yes, I think that somehow we all need to come together somehow someday soon for a THR/SoNV range & shooting session.
