I purchased a new bench and my Hornady LNL doesn't appear to be able to mount properly. It appears I need a 3" lip and only have 2.5" so if I drill holes they will be partially into the support board under the butcher block top and I won't be able to attach the nuts to the bolts.

Does anyone have any press mounting ideas? I really want a stable platform and I am a bit at a loss for ideas right now.

Help or suggestions appreciated.

Could you mount the press to a stiff metal plate, then the plate to the bench?

Better yet, maybe free up the bench top and refasten it 1/2" further out?

Still a close fit, but per the instructions

Your Hornady Lock-N-Load® AP™
should be mounted securely 2 1/4" from the edge of a solid level
bench and 3.75" apart and at least 16" from the nearest wall.

Longer bolts?
Are you worried about drilling through your support boards too? It looks like the butcher block is already permanently attached, so whats a few holes completely through?
I would glue an extension out from the side of the butcher block so I could mount the press a little further towards the edge to avoid the support beam, if I'm looking at the setup correctly.
something like another piece of hardwood about an inch thick, matching the height of the butcher block, glued or even screwed onto the edge of the butcher block for the press to butt against, but not so thick that it's taking any significant downwards force from the press, if that makes any sense.

Edit: Well, I checked this out and I don't feel like there is enough support for the press with the amount of room to mount. It appears to be just one row of butcher block supporting the press which I feel would split off under the load of the press.

Need to consider other options.

If you drill a hole through the support board (front to back) you can put a nut/washer inside the support flush on the butcher block.

There's a company that makes a mount similar to the Dillon Strong Mount, but it's made especially for the Hornady LNL AP. The company's name is Inline Fabrication and their stuff is sold on-line, and by Midway and Brownell's.

Inline Fabrication click here

When you use their Ultra Mount on the AP, you can set the press almost anywhere you want because the press does not have to be on the edge of the bench to clear the swinging mechanism. In fact, the press will typically sit 6-8" further back into the bench top, thereby increasing the rigidity of the entire press mounting. You'll love this setup.

They also have a line of "ergo" op levers and other nice items for the AP. You can drop a lot of coin there is you desire. Every item seems to be well thought out and made to high standards.

The underside base of the press has a little lip on it that will seat up against the edge of your bench. At first I was wanting to do the same as yourself when I got my LNL. ;)

Maybe I'm overthinking, but I would get the same sort of wood, sand the edge of the table and drill two holes fairly deep from the edge toward the wall. Drill to the end of the bolt threads to attach some washers and nuts on the underside of the table top and use the long bolts to attach an extension. Then bolt your press down thru the supports, washers were made large, use two sets if need be to have extra grip. That's what I would do

Use lots of wood glue!

No experience with that press but if you just need a little room could you raise it up by perhaps the thickness of a 2x_ piece of lumber that you could cut to fit the base of the press? If so it's a cheap, easy fix.

Get some threaded inserts; drill a 3/8 hole into the butcher block and install the insert. Use 1/4-20 bolts to mount. Inserts available from McMaster-Carr
in various lengths and diameters. URL of typical insert below.
I use them to mount various items on my butcher block bench.
Nice thing is that whatever is attached is easily removed, so that you can use the bench for things other than loading (heresy indeed...)

3" lip would make it worse not better. You want support not overhang. The way I see it you have two choices. Either notch your benchtop so you can push the press over the support and bolt into the top on the backside of the support.

Or better, IMO, buy another 2x4 and bolt it with longer bolts to the existing support and drill your mounting hole through both members, use a long bolt to go through the top and the two supports and use a large fender washer to support the press across both support members before you screw a nut and lock washer on. Also screw the two support members together every 3 or 4 inches or so top and bottom to make the two members one.

Guaranteed strength with a strong torsion beam support. You could make it even stronger by buying two 2x4's. You'd then in effect have an untwistable support, like the bench drawing below:

IMO this is an easy fix. Mount your press to a cut piece of 3/4" plywood leaving plenty of extra wood in the back. Place the front edge of the mounting board against the front edge of the bench, drill 2 holes through the back of the mounting board into the bench and use 2 bolts to secure the whole thing.

Inline fab's, strong mount and ergo handle. I had the exact same problem and that's the route I took. Perfect solution and it works incredibly well.

My original thought was to suggest you make an extension plate to kount on top of the bench, but I'm going to go contrary to that and suggest you cut a notch in the bench front that will allow the holes to move back far enough that they are over the support. Use lag screws into the support rather than bolts with nuts.
