Doing the research the production run ended in 1980. I have two half stampings visible. Second digit is an M, which would date it past the production run. Also this is in an oval and not a rectangle. Anybody have any insight? Thanks, Larry

238XX, the barrel also is stamped with the middle three numbers of the full serial number. No letter prefixes

mM MIGHT be an Italian Navy Marking (sourced from another site) left side looks like a Gardone shield that has been polished or poorly stamped. Any evidence it's been reblued?

Blueing inside looks darker than outside surfaces. Lots of rust pitting, more than I would have expected. Barrel is rust free, heavy blueing and no signs of wear. Grips are a bit beat up. Found another marking at the base of the mag well. Hope these help, also it's the old style guide rod

Can't find an answer anywhere as to the position of the date stamp on the pistol. Also, the bore looks absolutely pristine. Did find the first number of the serial number is on the left side of the barrel lug, the remaining four on the right side. They match
