New Caliber - 300 AAC Blackout

@jmstevens You can always ignore it or was your latest post to promt a negative response from others? I have enjoyed every post on this thread and look forward to the next. I actually got in touch with Rock River Arms to see if they had any plans on a 300 Blackout. So I could stay with the same manufacturer as the AR I already have. They don't so I am still shopping as I slither cash away for my next unauthorized male purchase. Would prefer an upper rather than just a barrel change money permitting.
You assume too much.

This thread is still being pushed along?
Yes. It's rather nice to have thread on a product that's updated whenever new information & related products are released. The fact that the lead engineer for that product has picked up on the thread, is answering questions, and posting info is even better.

So when's Ruger coming out with one? Surely they're going to have something in 300 Blackout at the upcoming SHOT show. I'd like to see them offer this round in their recent Tactical version of the Mini. It would offer the ballistics of their Mini 30, but in a more common round. Yes, I know that 7.62X39 is certainly not uncommon, but I am looking at it from a reloader's standpoint. 7.62 reloadable brass seems to be hard to come by. Running reformed 223 brass in the Blackout would solve that problem nicely.

No inside info but I'll bet you Ruger has a 300BLK Ranch Rifle at the SHOT Show. It just makes a lot of sense given the target market, and Ruger seems happy to offer a variety of new calibers fairly quickly.

I'll throw in another educated guess (or hope). A Ruger M77 Tacatical in 300 BLK, which has a threaded muzzle & flash hider, and is already offered in .223 Rem & .308 Win would make sense.

An M77 Compact in .300 BLK would also be a great idea as a youth bolt rifle with .223 like recoil, but light .30-30 terminal ballistics.

I'm sort of beginning to come around on this one, at least a little. I think it might be fun to buy a barrel and try shooting cast bullets from the AR platform. I would much rather try that with a 30 cal round than try to cast good .224 bullets and gas check them, especially since I already own a couple of good 30 cal molds and some boxes of gas checks.

Has anybody done much with cast bullets in this round yet? People often recommend against cast in gas operated guns, but I don't know anyone who has actually reported big problems with clogging up the tube on an AR.

I finally got all my parts in a room together and spent the evening assembling. This is my first AR build. I didn't care for the CMMG 300 Blackout upper and by the time I swapped out a bunch of parts, there was nothing of the old one left.

Can't want for next week. I have 3 days off and almost almost 300, 300 BLK in mixed super and subsonic :)

Edited to add: Thanks to rcmodel for the barrel guidance.

300 blkout

I can see this rifle used in spec ops but, I see the big picture on this 240gr subsonic/supressed trij/thermal optics as a hog whoopin machine. I mean to say that, I shoot one hog and the rest scatter using a super sonic rnd. The idea of eliminating a hog infestation is not to go have fun shooting hogs for a week. The idea is to stalk in quiet, and from 100yrds put a round thru every last one of the packs heads. Your in your out your done & moving on to the next pack. I like it. Now for day shooting with this beast, get the all in one Burris scope. that combo gives you a comfort level at 300+yrds. and none have a clue what just happened or where it came from.

Has that rep come back on line with his ton of ammo for this thing yet?
I think my next build will be along these same lines except with .338 lapua rnds.
Til next time, Semper Fi.

Does anyone know if the primed Remington 300 Blk brass from midwayusa.com is headstamped 300 Blk? Does anyone know if there were ever 300 Whisper headstamped brass? I thought I saw some made by Hornaday but cannot recall.

Hmm seems quarterbore.com forum is down

Can anyone tell me if the 300 Blk Lee dies would work okay for a 300 Whisper chamber? What would be the problem doing this? Their factory crimp die in 300 Blk works for the 300 Whisper.

Shot my 10.5" .300 today for the first time and had some problems. I couldn't get it to cycle, not even once. I was shooting supersonic handloads - I started with 15gr of H110 and some pulled 147gr 7.62 NATO bullets, and worked up to 17gr. Velocity with 17gr was running a tad over 1900 fps with no signs of pressure. I'll eventually work up a dedicated hunting round, this is just for plinking.

I tore it down when I got home and found the gas port completely plugged with brass! Some of my brass was kind of scored up, apparently from the feed ramps. I'm wondering if a chunk of brass got scraped off when chambering the first round. I need to take a closer look at the feed ramps tonight. But anyway, here's a pic. I didn't have the scope on today, just irons.

Dang, I was wondering when you would make the rounds over here. I think this is the last forum that got the link. :p:cool:

Robert, thanks for the link above.

Do you know what barrel, handguard and suppressor he was running in the video?I like that set up alot.

Spike's Tactical Compressor, 8.1 inch barrel, PNW Arms 155 grain ammunition. Spike's silencer, possible integral.

Thanks rsilvers and usglfvet for the info.
I am currently Spikes lower with a AAC 9inch upper with a AAC 7.62 SD can.
I likes the looks of the Spikes Compressor and hopefully soon make a simular setup.
Just have to wait on my Form 1 and decide on a handguard. I figure since I shoot 99.9% suppressed anyways to go ahead and get a dedicated suppressor for it.
