New followers for hi cap mags?

That was my next question. I do have the BHP in 9 and .40S&W. I "could use" the 9mm mags as .40S&W with 10 rounds of the .40S&W in them. Would that be legal?

If we don't have all this speculation we wouldn't have the current panic buying. I think many of our forums are full of people who have an interest in inducing panic buying. I never hear a word about upcoming legislation in my life, only on the internet.

Maybe our moderators should start deleting threads. These panic threads are not logical.

Is now better?

It is if you live in New York State. You can't buy new 10 round magazines, but if you currently own any, you're on your Scout's Honor to never load more than 7 rounds in them.

OK, since I was ridiculed for even thinking this could happen, here we sit, 2 weeks later, and NYS puts a 7 round magazine cap and does not grandfather in the old mags. Many other states are talking of similar type bans. So, to all the people who told me to use the search function, that you can't predict the future, that it is wasted negative energy and all the other full of yourselves worthless answers, is now a good time to ask?
Huh?
Please?

Is there a company who could make thicker/taller followers to make our mags compliant with any new law that MAY occur and does this sound feasible to those who have a little foresight and mechanical design capability? A taller follower should take the same spring and base since it acts like there is extra rounds in the mag. To anyone who owns a business that can make this, now is the time to start. You have NYS as a market to start with.

A good time to ask about bliss ninny followers to accommodate a non-existent piece of legislation that hasn't been proposed, let alone voted on or signed?

I do believe a follower to limit capacity would be a good "invention" for someone who can produce them. I'd even sell them for the maker!

Of all the things to be contemplating for the future... I'm sure that'll be a proud day for you.

Since you mentioned New York to justify this little episode, from the testimony I listened to from the NYS assembly today, there is a 1-year grace period. Plenty of time to worry about how best to comply with an as yet non-existent law should it come down to that.

Here's the thing, Larry. We still can't tell you whether legislation that hasn't been passed or even written will allow you to simply install a new follower and be compliant. Even after it has been written and passed, we don't know how it will be interpreted. Will a new follower be good enough? Will you have to put in the new follower and epoxy the baseplate on so it can't be switched back? Will the implementation require a permanent change to the magazine body so the size of follower is irrelevant? Nobody knows.

Here's the text of the NY bill, emphasis mine:

"Large capacity ammunition feeding device" means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device, has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than ten rounds of ammunition, or (b) contains more than seven rounds of ammunition, or (c) is obtained after the effective date of the chapter of the laws of two thousand thirteen which amended this subdivision and has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than seven rounds of ammunition

That certainly doesn't sound like just dropping new follower in is going to be legal.

If you are so convinced that a modified follower is some kind of magic bullet, you should quickly file a patent and either set up a company to make these followers or license this invention to magazine manufacturers.

As I said before, current 10 round magazines are grandfathered, but cannot be loaded with more than 7 rounds. No new follower required, just the ability to count.

that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than seven rounds of ammunition

Well, Jorge, help me understand.

A magazine has to be able to fit into the mag well. Most are flush fitting. The list of newer guns that take more than 10 rounds is endless. Basically, if you live in NYS or anywhere that copies this law (I live in CT for now...) they are making these guns unusable. Sell them or become a criminal.

Can anyone see what is happening here?
First it was "no way, just say no!"
Now it's "they can't do this to us! 7 rounds is ridiculous!"
We yell and scream and stomp our feet and they appease us by making it 10 rounds.
They do us a favor. A favor? Really?
This is ask for the stars and settle for the moon tactics.

I never hear a word about upcoming legislation in my life, only on the internet.

Well, time to turn on the tv, read newspapers and listen to the radio. If you only use the internet then you will only hear about things around you on the internet.

Once the old 10 round mags dry up, seven round magazines with short bodies and extra long skeletonized floor plates will be necessary to continue operating any pistol with a standard length grip. The mags will look ridiculous. Or you will get single stack magazines with a wide body attachment to fill up the extra space and fit properly.

You didn't do anything when they limited it to 10 rounds, and you won't do anything now that it's seven. Give it another ten years and you will be down to single shots.

By all means, please enlighten us. POTUS speaks in about 10 minutes and I'll be watching it live so I can write about the specifics to my legislators. But up to this point, at 10:37 A.M. CST, I am as yet unaware of any national level legislation that has been introduced. I'm all ears if you know something we don't.

I gave it a fifty-fifty chance of going this far. BO is just kicking the can to Congress. It's still up in the air.

There sure are a lot of really pissed off and cranky people posting on this thread. Bottom line, we don't know yet.

I am cranky and p-o'd. We have states secretly stealing our rights for no real reason. 7 rounds in a mag? Why 7? Why not 6 or 8? There are quite a few mfg mags with 10 round limits for other states who had the rug pulled out from under them, CA and MA. We have a president who doesn't care what we want, only what he wants matters. We have written our reps, emailed, faxed and debated. NYS pulls out something like this and we still have people who say nothing has happened and nothing will happen. I've never seen so many people with their heads in the sand because nothing has happened.... yet!

Some of us like to know our options if something occurs. I don't know, I guess that's why some men lead and some follow. Leaders are foreward thinkers and followers just wait until someone tells them what to do and they follow it while they grumble and curse about how they got jobbed.

Wake up people! Just because you don't live in NYS doesn't mean it doesn't affect you! You think your state is safe? Well, good for you. I thought we were a group, not a bunch of "too bad for you but I'm fine" people. If it happens in a state like NY then it's only a matter of time for it to affect you. Wait until there is something on the table?
Well, the table is full and they are sharpening their knives and a bunch of people here cockily state that there is nothing to fight because nothing has been done.

Well, I like to plan ahead. If this happens, I will do this. If this happens, then this is best. I plan for possible scenarios so when something pops up I am prepared. I don't wait for someone to shove something down my throat and then say it tastes like crap. Everyone who carries doesn't carry for the danger in front of them, they carry for the possibility of something happening. We can carry to be prepared but to be prepared for a war against gun ownership and we have comments like this:

I am as yet unaware of any national level legislation that has been introduced.

How's the sand look under the ground?

Some of us like to know our options if something occurs.
Word, good thinking.
You think your state is safe?
Safer than most, but totally? No.
Wake up people! Just because you don't live in NYS doesn't mean it doesn't affect you!
Word....... Uh huh......
a bunch of people here cockily state that there is nothing to fight because nothing has been done.
The best thing we can do is remain cool, collected, and fight these "executive actions" and "gun control laws" with restraint and patience. They are born from ignorance. We must argue and provide facts in a calm manner. Educate to kill the real threat to our rights, ignorance, greed, and fear. The proposed new legislation will not accomplish it's intended goals. We know that. Support the NRA financially, with letters to your reps, and with the way you carry yourself on the streets.

We have a president who doesn't care what we want, only what he wants matters.
Agreed.
There are quite a few mfg mags with 10 round limits for other states who had the rug pulled out from under them, CA and MA.
I feel terrible for all the law abiding citizens in the oppressed states. I'm glad I live in a free place. I hope there is legal recourse for the people of NY. Again, support the NRA.
I guess that's why some men lead and some follow. Leaders are foreward thinkers and followers just wait until someone tells them what to do
Absolutley correct.
I thought we were a group
We are, but some people are appathetic and some are just plain stupid. Every team has these types. Think about how many you have in the work place. It just means the rest of us must do more.

Remember, a person who has there head in the sand is in darkness, and sees nothing. It is up to us to dig them out, and show them the light......... because no one else will.

Things have gotten out of hand. Good luck............. to all of us.

How's the sand look under the ground?

Haha, I see that silly joke you did there. That forward thinking you have must be giving you great insight into the lives of strangers on the internet. You apparently take me for one who has his head in the sand and has therefore done nothing in light of what looms ahead. Go ahead and think that if you wish. I've written my legislators multiple times. I will continue to do so, but only based on fact rather than rumor or phantoms lurking in the shadows.

While the rest of us were discussing organizations to support in light of the New York legislation, possible legal avenues by which to challenge, and watching it unfold from the source so that we could respond in the realm of reality, you were (and are) pushing the issue with this thread. If your idea of being a "leader" is is to find a way to quickly, quietly, and cheaply comply with a non-existent ban while turning a profit, then let me be first to thank you for not stepping into a position where real leadership matters.

Remember, a person who has there head in the sand is in darkness, and sees nothing. It is up to us to dig them out, and show them the light......... because no one else will.

Show me the light of your limited-capacity follower? Yeah, no thanks.

yeah, uh huh.

I am as yet unaware of any national level legislation that has been introduced.

Your words.

While the rest of us were discussing organizations to support in light of the New York legislation, possible legal avenues by which to challenge, and watching it unfold from the source so that we could respond in the realm of reality,

Your words again. Funny how it contradicts your first statement. Why would you be doing anyting if there is nothing that has been introduced?

Double speak.
Nice try.

Speak like an advocate while you wait for something to happen before you decide to engage, by your words. Do I know you? Nope, only what you've posted. Your posts spoke volumes.

Let me know what you figure out once the government does something. In the mean time try to breathe while underground. Don't worry, it's coming to a head shortly and you can assess the situation and then decide what to do. Just like the millions of people who can't grasp what is really going on. Some plan, some follow along.

It's not only about followers in case you haven't figured that out. However, followers can be a part of the solution in the mean time to help those who had their rights stripped away while you wait to see what they're going to do. One state at a time. You can decide what to do when it's your state. Me? I'll plan ahead to try to prevent it from happening while I also plan how to deal with the crud they put out there as a smoke screen. They are attacking right now. You can wait for them to be at your door before you figure it out. I'll try to have plans in place when they do. Different strokes for different folks.

Since you necessitate pointing out the obvious, there is a difference between the New York state legislature and the US Congress. I remain unaware of any federal bill. The New York Senate and New York Assembly are not the US Congress, and do not legislate national level bills... to use my words. Given that they are two very separate political entities, that's hardly double speak... to use your words. If you doubt me, I suggest a basic middle-school level civics course.

They are attacking right now. You can wait for them to be at your door before you figure it out. I'll try to have plans in place when they do.

Who do you mean? Who is attacking you? Who is coming to your door? More importantly, will the phantoms leave you in peace when you show them your neutered magazine that complies with a non-existent law?

Don't worry, it's coming to a head shortly and you can assess the situation and then decide what to do.

Assessing the situation before acting served me quite well in Iraq and Afghanistan. But then, I never was one for kowtowing.

A good time to ask about bliss ninny followers to accommodate a non-existent piece of legislation that hasn't been proposed, let alone voted on or signed?

Your original quote. A mention of national here? Ummm, nope.

I'm glad all is well in your corner of the country. Too bad not every state has the same freedoms you do. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile.

Who do you mean? Who is attacking you? Who is coming to your door? More importantly, will the phantoms leave you in peace when you show them your neutered magazine that complies with a non-existent law?

Seriously? You wish to go literal now? Ask anyone who lives in NYS how they feel. Of course, you aren't affected (yet) so you don't really care, now do you. Why not ask them to send you their soon to be illegal hi cap mags? After all, you aren't affected.

By the way, thank you for your service.

Enough said here.
Some people can agree to disagree.

Your original quote. A mention of national here? Ummm, nope.

When you said "this" hi cap mag ban in your original quote, weeks before the NYS one was proposed, I assumed you meant national. I'll go ahead and skip asking for a reference to a bill again given that all previous attempts to understand which ban you have been referring to have either been unanswered or diverted to the realm of head-in-the-sand attacks on me.

Ask anyone who lives in NYS how they feel.

To the best extent I am able, I sympathize. I will gladly donate to any group that has a serious go at challenging the legislation in the courts. If I were a constituent of any politician who could impact NYS law specifically, I would have already contacted them. One thing I would not do, even if I had the ability, financing, and equipment, would be to produce and disseminate a reduced-capacity follower that could get the user killed in an SD situation, particularly when we're a year away from it being legally mandated, and particularly given such a long window to overturn or challenge the legislation on judicial grounds. But like I said, kowtowing isn't my thing.

Of course, you aren't affected (yet) so you don't really care, now do you.

Again, you know an awful lot about strangers on the internet, their feelings, intentions, and past and future actions. I hope your clairvoyance serves you as well as assessing before acting has served me.

Why not ask them to send you their soon to be illegal hi cap mags?

Gold star to you sir, for saying the most perplexing thing I've heard all day.

Some people can agree to disagree.

On that we agree. I would sooner smelt my arms that irrevocably convert them to the non-existent accommodations to which you readily demonstrate such begging enthusiasm.

I would sooner smelt my arms that irrevocably convert them to the non-existent accommodations to which you readily demonstrate such begging enthusiasm.

My begging enthusiasm is trying to stop the illegal tactics being pulled in front of our eyes while trying to figure out how to stay armed and legal while we fight. That's all this was about... a way to stay legal while we fight. If that makes me some sort of bad guy then so-be-it. Others can choose to fight however they wish as long as we all stand united in the fight. One state at a time is how they will do it unless we draw the line and this line has to be drawn now, not once they make their proposals. What are we fighting? Well, look at what has been written, what has been forced upon us and what has been said and you can get a good idea of where they are headed. I'm not willing to see what they are demanding... I have a good idea what it is and I don't like it. NYS has fired the first shot and don't believe for one second that Obama didn't have his hand in it. We have to react now before more states push thru legislation during the night while we sleep.

If there's a need, and a lawful solution is so easily to be had, you can bet your bottom dollar three or a dozen companies will make the parts you need.

Till then...

Enough said here.
About covers it.
