Just dropped off my new FA 83 Premiere 475 Linebaugh 4 3/4 inch at Eagle Grips. Raj, the owner of Eagle Grips is shaping a pair of Indian Sambar Stag panels for me that will better fit my small hands and he promises will be "a very special set for a very special gun" Raj is a great fan of FA guns as well. He has a small supply of genuine stag available. I will try to post pictures when I get it back in a couple of days. Raj tells me the stag is very tough and can handle the recoil easily. These should be lifetime grips for a great packin gun. :)

I picked up my 475 FA from Raj at Eagle Grips yesterday and "she" is now wearing the prettiest Indian Stag grips I have ever seen. Raj and I discussed all the possible options for grips including Buffalo Horn, Ivory, man made ivory, American Elk etc. Some were dismissed because they would not stand up to the recoil for the lifetime of the gun. Others were just not unique enough for this gun. As luck would have it Raj had recently aquired a small stock of real Indian Sambar Stag. My concern was that since the stag is not flat and smooth, it would not roll in my hands for recoil, but Raj assured me he would work that out. And work it out he did. The fit to the frame is perfect and the grips are shaped to fit my hand better than the original wood grips. I have small hands, so Raj had his guy shape them slightly narrower for me. The size falls right in between their normal SAA grip and their very slim "Gunfighter" style. The gun balances even better than before as the Stag is slightly, as in an ounce or so, heavier than the original wood. The shape also fits my hand better in terms of pointing. I shot it last night and it points where you look. Like an original Colt. How did they say it? Oh yeah, "it points like the finger of god" In case you can not tell I am extremely pleased with this project. Somehow it just seems right to have genuine Indian Stag on a world class hunting SA.

Man, those look great and will only get better as they age. Very nice!!

You have a fanatastic handgun, ideed and it is really 'decked out' in those grips! Congratulations! May it serve you well and long.

NICE!

Nice Choice! Nice BARK on those Grips! The Antler Just Set That Thang OFF!

I would like to know TOTAL cost (Grip Cost and Fitting Cost ETC) and like they say, if you have to ask the price, you can't afford them! Yep. they're RIGHT! But I can DREAM anyway!

Total cost for the grips, the fitting to my 475 and the extra shaping to fit my hands was $300. I think the price was very reasonable when you consider the size of the stag antlers needed to cover a FA 83 SA and you realize that genuine Stag is very scarce. Thanks to all for your apreciative comments.

AFS,

I agree with you about the Stag grips. It is sad to think that the supply is so short and that the Indian government will not likely ever lift the export restriction. I have had Raj at Eagle make a couple of sets of grips for Rugers in American Elk. It is a close replacement, but is still not exactly the same feel and look. At least the supply of Elk antlers will not likely dry up on us. Thanks for your thoughts.
