I picked up my 475 FA from Raj at Eagle Grips yesterday and "she" is now wearing the prettiest Indian Stag grips I have ever seen. Raj and I discussed all the possible options for grips including Buffalo Horn, Ivory, man made ivory, American Elk etc. Some were dismissed because they would not stand up to the recoil for the lifetime of the gun. Others were just not unique enough for this gun. As luck would have it Raj had recently aquired a small stock of real Indian Sambar Stag. My concern was that since the stag is not flat and smooth, it would not roll in my hands for recoil, but Raj assured me he would work that out. And work it out he did. The fit to the frame is perfect and the grips are shaped to fit my hand better than the original wood grips. I have small hands, so Raj had his guy shape them slightly narrower for me. The size falls right in between their normal SAA grip and their very slim "Gunfighter" style. The gun balances even better than before as the Stag is slightly, as in an ounce or so, heavier than the original wood. The shape also fits my hand better in terms of pointing. I shot it last night and it points where you look. Like an original Colt. How did they say it? Oh yeah, "it points like the finger of god" In case you can not tell I am extremely pleased with this project. Somehow it just seems right to have genuine Indian Stag on a world class hunting SA.
