I can see a lot of bad coming from something like this.

Way too easy for some misinformed goober to call the cops on a law-abiding owner and say "I think this guy has illegal guns!" .. The cops show up and confiscate guns and the guy has to jump through all kinds of hoops to get them back.

Actually not a bad idea

Assuming the Police do their homework, e.g. des the person living here have a felony conviction?, before behaving like JBT's, I think this is a good idea. It appeals to the base needs of the communties these thugs live in, let's face it they are not going to turn these people based on altruistic motives. Here in Dade City in a section called Tommy Town the illegals and the original inhabitants of that area are killing each other quite regularly and unfortunately catching an innocent bystander or two long the way, no one seems to know or see anything, go figure. But for a few pesos or green backs who knows maybe it would help clean things up a bit. Just saying.....

Now childeren, for the good of the fatherland, if your parrents speak ill of the party it is your duty to inform on them.

The "Turn in a bad guy with a gun" program is a part of a multi-faceted program to combat a rampant murder rate that has killed several innocent children, among many others, lately. A convicted child murderer, now free, said at a city wide program that had several thousand folks in attendance, "The mayor did not know Ihat I had a gun, The Sheriff did not know I had a gun, the people in my neighborhood did know I had a gun. I wish someone would have turned me in."
If someone ID's me to the authorities as having a gun. So what??? That's what my CWL is for. The intent is to get the illegal guns off of the streets, identify the possessors and put them away where they can't hurt innocent people any more. I keep reading, on these forums, comments saying to get illegal guns out of the hands of the "Gangsta's." Now that the city and it's people are trying to do just that, we get all up in arms? We can't have our cake and eat it too.

I live in Jacksonville. I heard the term "illegal gun" and I didn't know what they were talking about. I haven't heard any kind of explanation of what the term means either. Don't count on the media to help out. They are still reporting that an "arsenal" consists of any collection of 2 or more guns.

We have no kind of gun registration processes in Fl. You can own Class3 or AOW items here if you have the proper Federal paperwork. You can keep your weapons loaded in your car as long as they are encased and not visible if you want, and you don't even need a CCW to do it.

If a felon has a gun, then the felon has commited a crime, but that doesn't have anything to do with the gun being illegal.

I'm more worried about cops being "trigger happy" as far as SWAT and No-Knock raids.

The JSO came to my house, while I was deployed to the middle east to do a "wellness check" on my wife when the COs wife could not get a hold of her. They saw her pills (she is on ~10 meds) spread out (she was sorting them for the week), and one of my holsters. (1911 was in another holster under socks)

They grabbed her, and broke her arm severely. Then "Baker Acted" her and I had to come home from deployment.

Many JSO officers are outstanding peace officers. However, when you have a department that has to advertise on city buses for officers, it can have some bad apples.

Also, in reference to JSO, NO lawyers in town would take them on, without a $5K+ retainer. Also, IA was less than helpful.

Wow! How much did that statement net his bank account? I bet the gun grabbers in government were positively drooling to have him back for a recap.

Yea but it's so much easier to justify budgets if you just get warrants and kick in doors. After all the neighbor said you had several machine guns after he caught a glimpse of your SKS and AR-15.

Yeah, my busybody neighbor has seen the following:

Me getting in and out of my truck with gun cases, targets, etc

CRATES of Ammo being delivered.

Me coming and going in Camo, or Green suits.

My ammo presses in the garage. (not sure if she knows what it really is)

She thinks I am in the militia. I have had to explain to her 7-8 times that I wear a "camo suit" (flight suit) beause I am a pilot. She tells me "she knows" that if I was REALLY in the Navy, I would wear my whites like "All sailors do". Plus, "everyone knows" that the USAF flies the navy's aircraft. (There are 3 Naval Air Stations, or ex NAS's in Jacksonville)

She thinks I have an "arsenal". I have 3 rifles, 3 pistols and 2 shotguns. Hardly, but that is what the Times-Union says is an arsenal, it must be true....

What worries me, is that she or someone like her will "drop a dime" on a LEGAL gun owner, who will have to deal with a SWAT raid, and possible fallout from it.
