I have been trying to get the new Hogue Grips installed
on my S & W 686P. Seems they provide a new 'sturup and
longer screw - the screw is also a smaller diameter. The
stock sturrup and screw have to be swapped out and replaced with the Hogue supplied stiurup/screw.

Is there any trick to drifting the pin that holds the sturup out - a proper
sized drift pin would probably be required eh?

FYI - Beautiful Coco Bolo wood, checkered with one figer groove and the
bottom cap in a darker wood with white spacer

you should be able to flex the old one off and the new one on--they're made out of spring-steel, so they should snap back to their original shape once you've let go. They do require a bit of force to get them to flex, though.

I got the stock sturrup swapped out for the Hogue supplied
one which has a smaller diameter screw.

It's close, about 3/16ths of an inch.... I'll keep fuzing with it.
