Hi all,
Been collecting old remington 22s lately and that has got me back to squirrel hunting. Anyone have some great recipes they wanna share?
Thanks!

Aaah squirrel, the most dangerous game...make sure they are dead before you try to dress them. Then if it is a young squirrel, I generally just sprinkle kosher salt and fresh pepper on them and wrap the mid section of them with a piece of thick bacon and throw them on the grill till the bacon is cooked. Not too exciting but tasty. The old ones get the stew pot.

Dang Z that sounds great. Ive been renewing my interest in squirrels. I used to hunt em most days after school with my dauschund, a friend of 17 years. But then she died and it wasnt as fun. Im getting excited about it and that bacon definitely sounds mouth watering.

Not to get too far off subject, but I had a weenie dog that loved to chase squirrels and swim after ducks. I knew they had a tendency to be vicious when the urge stuck but had never seen him go postal...until that poor squirrel got caught in the open. That was the only time i actually felt bad for a squirrel.

I find that steak marinade works fairly well on squirrel. Just give it some time to soak. :)

Line a crock pot with sliced vidalia onions
place boned squirrel meat on top of onions
place veggies on top of meat
pour liquid over it all. I use either onion soup mix or a homemade concoction.
Slow cook for about six hours.
Makes a little pot of good squirrel stew.

My homemade concoction is 1/4 wine, 1/4 Heinz ketchup and 1/2 water.
