Hello,

I have owned P3ATs and another LCP. I am aware that in both models it is internet suggestion to press the mag release while inserting a magazine. I follow this practice.

I am having a different issue with my new gen 2 stainless LCP. My magazine will not stay latched at the point where it should (past the resistance of the mag release). I push it in, but I can pull it out without resistance. It never gets grabbed. Has anyone experience this? What should I do?

New LCP?

Call Ruger and whine like a whipped pup!!!

You bought it in good faith.

They need to make it work.

(Unless it's the new Senator commemorative Model they just came out with?)
They won't work, and you can't fire them.

I've heard of some folks needing to remove a bit of material from the top of the base pads of the USA made mags to get them to seat fully.

Ha. It's true my Mecgar lcp mag works but the US doesn't work great. EU vs US.

I just tried SMACKING! it home. It worked. Well, not the end of the world...but that's kinda weird.

Put some Talon grip texture on it. I like these puppies. Just wish the overtravel wasn't so huge with the newer models.

Never heard of this; have never done it. Just seat them in the same manner as with all our other magazines and they click right into place.

The followers on our US made magazines did tend to stick. I smoothed the sides of the followers with 600 grit emery cloth on a flat surface and now they rise with ease.

One of the 2 that came with mine did that. I bought 2 more which worked well. I've seen ruger send free replacements for those numerous times. As mentioned, you can also file / sand a little material off the bumper where it contacts the magazine well and that works about 80-90 % of the time. I'd just contact ruger and get the new ones. There's a short tutorial w/ pics on one of the ruger forums detailing the bumper mod.

+1 on this concept. I had to alter a customer's base pad by sanding a little off it in order to get it to reliably seat. It worked 100% after that.

Absolutely!

And when you do that, you do everyone else a service -- you let Ruger know you have a faulty product and motivate them to improve their quality assurance program.

No idea if Ruger has a zillion of those magazines in inventory or if they choose to stick with them being manufactured w/ the same poor design, which imo Isn't characteristic of Ruger. This has been a long running problem and Ruger has been very aware of it for a long time.

I have to wiggle mine horizontally after pushing in vertically to get it to lock in. But once locked in , it will stay locked in until I push the release button.
