New member in NC

Hi, just thought i'd introduce myself as I'm a new member and already made a couple of post. My name is Brian and I live in N.C. and I'm in the electrical field of work and my hobby of guns is just starting up. As of today I own

1) Sears model 2200 lever action single shot .22 rifle. This is similar to the Ithaca model 49 and the first firearm I've ever owned, bought as my first ever X-mas presnt when I was just 4mos old.

2)Marlin model 60 .22 (18 shot model) This is probally my most favorite gun as of date very fun to rapid fire.

3)Mossberg 500A 12ga shotgun

4)S&W model 66 .357 magnum. This is my 2nd handgun I've owned my first was a Taurus PT908 9mm I had some serious problems with this gun jamming and eventually sold it, it was a POJ in my opinion deffrently turned me off from Taurus and almost changed my opinion on semi-auto's altogether. I think I may give a Springfield XD in .357SIG a chance to re-interset me in semi-autos sometime next year.

5)Marlin 336A 30-30 with scope ( Just recently bought at Dicks, had'nt had a chance to fire it yet)

My plans for next year are:

SKS with folding stock
Ruger single-six with extra magnum cyl.
Springfield XD .357SIG
Mossberg 500A 20ga slugster combo
Beretta Tomcat .32ACP

22 magnum experience

Ive shot the .22 mag for about 40 years. I'm 55. Started with a Mossberg
chuckster (great gun), had 2 Marlins, 1 Browning (was recalled twice so got
rid of it), bought a Ruger 77/22mag which shot great. What I do hate is
seeing most of the ammo downloaded from where it was orginally. Even the
most powerful RWS is anemic. The chronograph doesnt lie. Even the blast
is less loud. I have some original Winchester yellow box ammo and it clocks
2025 fps and some 15 year old RWS clocks 2075 fps. All with a 40 gr bullet!
The Winchester supreme is the best stuff now, clocks 2150 with a 34 gr
bullet.

thanks

Hi : )

I'm a college student in Georgia, working towards a degree in English. I've been shooting for about eleven years with my dad. Toward the end of my senior year in high school, I decided it was time to get a job; however, the only place I could think of that I actually wanted to work was the gun store and range where he and I always went. So I begged and pleaded my way into a job there, and have been working in the gun business ever since.

Currently, I work in one of the local gun stores here in Columbus. As the only female working there, I receive kind of a lot of attention from customers, ranging from "heeey, you wanna go out?" to "so, do you actually know anything about guns?". Fortunately, the latter has become more and more rare since I started carrying my .45 on the job.

My shooting interest generally lies in whatever I've bought lately, and my .45, aka the love of my life. As of right now, I own ten guns (if you include the ones my daddy's bought me... :) ). My most recent acquisitions are a Turkish Mauser (8mm), and a Weatherby Mark V (.300 Win. Mag) that I have on layaway at work. I mean, who needs paychecks, anyway?

So yeah. That's me. Glad to be here. : )

Hello, I've been involved with shooting about my hole life. With that said I don't get to the range much:( . I'm trying to solve that problem asap.
The first gun I bought was a Remington M700 30-06 left hand , Taurus M44, Charles Daily 1911, Remington 870 12g left hand, Ruger 10-22, Mossberg M500 12g, and a Marlin 39A lever action .22 . I'm also getting a Ruger Vaquero in .45 Colt I can't hardly wait.

Hello Justin

I am in San Jose CA. I am a teacher and am very involved in Scouting (Venture Crew Advisor). My interests include frontier style black powder shooting with .54 cal reproduction Hawken/.50 cal Hawken pistol and tomahawk/knife throwing competitions. My son and I compete in CAS using reproduction colts in the frontier category and Heritage .357's in the modern category. I enjoy collecting reproduction pieces and learning about the history of the people who used them. I am taking a gunsmithing class and like to work on my guns at the workbench. I have a habit of fixing things that are not broke.....then having to learn how to fix them for real. It is a frustration way to learn. I am getting better as the wounds on my hands have somewhat healed now.....lol.

Hey

I'm new to the forum, and thought I'd stop by on this thread and introduce myself.

I'm a 50 year old father of three, married 17 years. Former US Army Infantry officer back in the 80s. Currently an Assistant District Attorney.

I own an M-1 Garand of 1941 vintage, an old .22 lever action single shot (I'm left-handed), and a Remington Model 10 12 ga that's a project gun.

I also own a CZ-75 that I brought back from Germany, a Bulgarian Makarov, S&W 15-2 snubbie in .38 spec, a Colt Lawman .357 and a Taurus 605 snubbie in .357.

I'm shopping hard for a 1911. I carried one in the Army and loved it.

My wish list, in no particular order (besides the 1911) is:

1911
Ruger 10/22
Walther P1/P38
Moisin Nagant M44
CZ-82

Hi from trippstadt

Hi, I'm a new member (just joined a few minutes ago). I've never owned a gun before, and never fired a handgun. I've fired a rifle maybe three times, at various skeet shooting ranges. My wife and I have just signed up to attend a beginning small arms class in early February, with the intent to purchase one or two weapons for home protection. With what happened during Katrina and our concerns about the potential for lawlessness after a similar catastrophe in our area, or a terrorist attack, or a devastating epidemic, etc., we've decided that we're ready to have a weapon or two in our house, just in case.

This looked like an excellent forum to ask questions (of which I will probably have many) of people with significant, relevent experience. Thank you for welcoming us here. - Tripp

New here

I'm in Arizona, where I got hooked on guns when my wife and I moved here in 1978 and a friend stuck a 50 cal Hawken in my hand. Never more hooked than now, started "collecting" old Soviet bloc battle rifles because of sitting across their borders listening to them in the '60's while in the Army. Love to hunt, (HP Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, Blackpowder) shoot paper and clay, research, reload, collect bayonets. Currently reloading 25ACP, 9mm Luger, 38 Special, 357, 45ACP, 20 gauge, 12 gauge, 30-30, 30-06, 303 British, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 8x56R Hungarian, and 8x57R Mauser. Help me, I've got it bad!

Hey whats up everyone

just figured i'd stop in and tell alittle bit about myself.

I'm a senior at the University of Pittsburgh who loves cars and racing....as well as an outdoors man who loves fishing and hunting and shooting sports.

i'm just gettin into rifle hand reloading and shooting more often. most often i shoot when sightin in guns for hunting season, and i really want to get out more often.

I got many rifles available for use. a few my uncle has lended to me.

few of my favorites are

my 6.5x55 swedish mauser. its a newer style sporting rifle, not a military unit and it drives tacks!! i dont know alot about it as my uncle just lent it to me last year.

6mm remington 700 ADL. very nice piece. pretty accurate as well. was my main deer rifle and my main ground hog varmit rifle. very nice caliber.

35 whelen...remington 700 classic. my uncle let me use this gun last year. took a nice 8 point whitetail with it so far and I love it.

many other 22's and few lever guns.

Hello (Again)

Hello,

I joined THR a long time ago, only had 3 posts and now I'm back.

I rediscovered this place after doing a search for a friend who made me two holsters - I was wondering if he was still creating custom holsters because mine are awesome and of course, I need another one. Or two.

Anyway, I'm in my late forties, I teach high school students, I am pursuing a Master's degree in software engineering and I always try to practice legal & responsible gun ownership (not always/necessarily the same thing).

I am extreme in my loyalty & attitude towards my family, religion, political opinions, software and Glocks, however, I hope I will never argue with anyone about these issues - or any other for that matter. And yes, I'll go ahead & say that there are other fine guns out there - I'm not "always right" and I fully acknowledge more valid information may lead to a future change of attitude on some of my currently held ideas/attitudes - but don't count on it (ha).

But seriously, I hope only to encourage people to become well educated in all areas of life and, especially in this place, I hope to promote responsible gun ownership.

So, there you have it - & here I am!

Now, how many posts do I have to create in order to have my avatar rights invoked?

Looking forward to getting to know all of you,

Mr. Dave

Hello all,

Seems Like I kept coming accross this website anytime I did a gun related google, so I figured I'd check it out.
First I'd like to say, that from the short stack of posts I've read, I'm really diggin how objective most people seem to be. Obviously, there are many things naturally subjective in shooting, but even in those cases, I find supporting statements as to why they feel the way they do. Thats good.

Anyway, I live in Kennesaw, Georgia...about 25 miles north of Atlanta. My dad is an avid shooter/collector/hunter, and I guess its rubbed off onto me. I was wondering if there are other boad members in my area? I'd like to get into some competition type shooting, preferably one where I don't need to perform all kinds of custom gunsmithing.

My newest gun is a Xd-40 service, which I just cleared from layaway, lol. Have'nt even fired it yet.

I just wanted to say hi to all you gun lovers!

I'm ArmedPolak's fiance (to be wife next friday:what: ) and we both love to go out and shoot guns.

I decided to join THR so i can annoy my future husband:evil: and exchange ideas about guns.

Here's me shooting a 9mm:D

hi

just wanted to say i like this site , i belong to a few other forums, and i'm very happy to see a bunch of younger folks, and the ladies as well, we need more ladies in the shooting sports.

Howdy folks, Just an old shooter that likes the old standby, 30-06s(wonder where my handle came from). Shot comp in the "crotch" for awhile and love hitting where I aim at any range. Even have my 22s sighted in at 100 yds.-don't laugh, try it and be amazed. Highly into preparations(survivalism). Hope any within "striking distance" of Rockingham NC can make it to the spring gathering in April. Lots to learn/share/enjoy. If interested please E/PM me. Ranges, cabins, lots of eating and plenty of BS circles for the most demanding of gossippers. Been going on bi-annually for several years and getting better each time. wc

Looking for information I came across this site and liked it...so I registered. I'm a senior but that's only a state of mind. Born and reared in Texas...I enjoy everything about hunting and shooting and expect to learn more here and contribute if I can. Everyone likes to be part of a good thing!

New Person

Hello All -

Lurked here for a awile last year and decided to join up.

THR was recomended by several folks that I hold in good regard.

newbie here

Hi,

I'm JP. I live in California. I'm an endangered species ( a conservative christian living in the San Francisco Bay Area.) I have owned various firearms for decades. Haven't shot any of them for quite some time now. Bought my first one when I was quite young (with the help of my parents.) I had to take an NRA Hunter Safety course before they let me get it (Remington 22 rifle.) I still have the tattered old card and I still remember the course. It was excellent training in gun safety. I assume the course is still offerred and is largely the same.......what applied then applies now.....right? I highly recommend it to anyone who owns a firearm or handles firearms. In my late teens I developed a deeper interest in shooting. I never joined any organizations or clubs but I read magazines, studied ballistics charts/tables, shot paper and clay at the ranges and cool stuff like 2 liter bottles filled with water out in the country. The latter is a great way to visualize the power of a 30-06 rifle! Went deer hunting once by myself but only saw one doe so I came back empty handed which in retrospect was a good thing due to the fact that I only had an oral explanation for how to field dress a deer and would have had to get it back to my car by myself somehow. I laugh looking back on that. I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time (I was 19) but thankfully the Lord saw to it that I didn't bag a buck because he knew I was ill prepared for the hunt! Ironically I came really close to hitting one at 70 mph on the highway driving in the night before. Who said God doesn't have a sense of humor. Fast forward.....I found this site when I was googling for info. on a defense situation I'm working on. I own a cabin in a somewhat remote area of the Sierras. It dawned on me one night while I was lying in bed there that I am not the biggest baddest dude in the forest . Furthermore, I would estimate that a 911 call might produce a deputy sheriff in maybe 30 - 60 minutes with luck. I asked myself what I would do if a bold bear tore off my front door and decided to see what kind of goodies I have in the kitchen. From what I understand it is not a common occurence, however, I have heard from more than one source that it does happen on occasion. I have a 45 auto for urban home defense which I have full faith in against human intruders due to the fact the US Army believed it did the job from WW1 through at least Vietnam, however, I do not have that level of confidence in it for going up against a Black Bear. I decided a hand held cannon would be safer so I bought an 8 shot 12 Gauge shotgun and 5 Magnum slugs and 5 Magnum 00 buckshot shells. I felt that this was the solution until I read a blog some guy wrote in which a bear was shot with a shotgun slug and due to the soft lead it pancaked just under the hide and therefore did not penetrate deep enough to drop the bruin in it's tracks. The subject bear was a Brown Bear (aka Big Grizzly) so perhaps my concerns are overblown as Black Bears are the only species in my neck of the woods. Nevertheless, if any of you out there have experience, expertise, or other knowledge that you care to share with me on the subject it would be most appreciated. I hope I haven't exceeded the message length limit here!!!

:) btw... my toybox contains....in chrono order....Remington 22 rifle...Ruger single six revolver 22lr/22magnum....Savage sbs dbl brl 12 ga...Remington mdl 700 ADL 30-06....AMT Hardballer stainless steel mdl 1911 45ACP...Ruger P90 45ACP..9mm German Luger.. Mauser Broomhandle...Marlin mdl 60 22lr ...Remington mdl 870 20" 8 shot 12 ga pump.

I'd like to add my voice to El T's in welcoming all the newcomers to THR.

Most of us that have been here for a while think this is
one of the finest pieces of real estate on the Internet.

There's more knowledge and wisdom here about firearms
(and a bunch more stuff) than one can even begin to imagine.

Stay awhile. Surf. Read. Absorb. Reflect.
SEARCH is your friend. Ask questions. Add comments.
Be respectful, and the mods will smile upon you.

The wise will spend limited time in L&P ( :scrutiny: ),
at least in the first few months of your tenure here,
and when there, extend shields to maximum. (!!!! !!!!)

Welcome to THR University, yall.
Let us know if you need anything.
