Another Newby :)

Hello,
I decided to join because, though I've been shooting since I was 9, I've always taken alot for granted. So, now that I've got my first, very own gun (Left-handed Savage .243 *:)*) and working on getting another (Ruger GP-100:eek:) I'm going to really LEARN about guns. Looking forward to talking guns with folks in the know ;)

Just a cowgirl,

Good choice on the handgun (GP-100), It will probably outlast you. I have a number of S&W and Ruger and the GP-100 reminds me of my 686. Good luck.

You can call me Mick if you want...I've got two guns...a M91/30 and a Beretta 21A, in .22LR. I've had the rifle a while, 5 years or so, bought the 22 in March.

Got the 22 for several reasons...it fits in my pocket, the barrel tips open so it's easy for my wife to use, and it's cheap to shoot. It is my first experience with a handgun, so with every FTF or FTE I wonder if I'm limp wristing the dang thing.

Eventually I'll take the CCW....but wanted to get started now before oBama gets all the guns.

hi

New guy from GA, found this place thanks to a link from another reloading forum I frequent.

Now, to get a few of the usuals out of the way..(saves time in the debates)

1911 vs Glock? Whatever I have in my hand.

9mm vs 45acp? Whichever you can afford to shoot proficiently with.

A .22 (or .25, .32, etc.) is not a good self defense round. Oh really? Would you want to be shot by one?

Hi-Points are junk that will explode in your hand. Already found that thread, read my response on there.

and for the rest of yall georgians (and people from other states that allow it)..

OC vs CC? I OC about 90% of the time.

yall have a good day, now.

Hello everybody,
Since I have a question to post elsewhere it seems the right thing to do is to say hello here first. I am primarily a Bullseye shooter but I like handguns of any type. My favorite is the 1911 in any flavor including the Marvel .22 conversion. Hence the user name.

Newby

Hi folks, New guy here. Attempting to set up a home gunsmith business in a city that hates people owning firearms. Saw the post quit a few posts from here where i learded some tricks in gunsmithing.

Hi folks. Even though I've made a few posts in the past, I thought I'd take time to introduce myself.

Live in Northern Virginia, employed as a computer specialist for the Federal Government.

Prior to purchasing my handgun, I'd had never owned or used any firearms save for .22 rifles in the Boy Scouts.

It's been an interesting journey to say the least, the most surprising part has been how all my stereotypes and prejudices about firearms and firearm owners have been (mostly) wrong.

I purchased a Sig P229 .40 S&W and took a basic pistol class at NRA HQ from NRA employees, which I highly recommend. I'm currently awaiting my Virginia CHP to be processed.

I've open carried a couple of times now here in the Northern Virginia area, and it's been a real eye-opener in terms of the change of my attitude and the reaction of others.

I'm very thankful for THR, you guys have been a great resource!

Hello!
I finally joined THR. Every time I google a gun question, THR is always the place that has the answer. Or at least part of an answer. I figured it was just time to register and ask directly, rather than muck around with search engines :D

As far as guns go, I only have one so far: my FN FiveSeven. At the moment I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of a '39 Tula M91/30 and a Ruger 10/22 being given to me by my awesome older brother. I'm also eagerly waiting for my tax return so I can invest in another firearm, probably a handgun, but I just can't make up my mind. I'm thinking I want a gun in a more common caliber than the 5.7x28. Maybe a .357 revolver...or a 9mm Glock...the list changes every day :p

Welcome to the forums, my wife and I are both CMU grads!

I in '04 with a GIS degree. We moved out of Mt P in '07 and def miss it a little. Not sure if you have yet but def check out the Brass Cafe downtown, and of course the Byrd Bar! Man...the times I had in Mt P...whew.
Good to see a CMU alum on here! I have been to the Brass and along with every other Greek I am quite familiar with the Bird, haha. You graduated when I was still in high school though. I came here in fall '06 and 5 years later I am working on my second major because apparently I just don't want to leave!

Newby saying Hi

Hi, all. Just joined today after browsing THR many times. I'm a twice-retired (USAF and State Of Okla) 70 year old who has been around and owned guns since childhood. Presently own a short-barrel Mossberg 12ga, two pistols (Kel-Tec P32, SA Champion .45 ), and a Taurus M85 .38spl snubbie revolver.

Started researching info on a 1911-pattern pistol in 9mm, which is what led me to this forum today. Painful wrists pretty much has ended rec shooting with my current lightweight Springfield. And since I would like to continue to carry concealed, range time is essential. Thoughts? Opinions?

New Here

Hello,

My name is Josh, and after browsing for a while, I decided it would be a good idea to sign up and learn about firearms. Not only that, but there seems to be a good bunch of people on here.
I recently picked up my first gun - a S&W 686-3 4" from a friend for $300 (well used, but safe), and I really want to learn to be proficient as well as knowledgeable about things. The only other exposure to guns I have is 4 years in USMC, and thats only with a rifle. I hope to be an electrical engineer someday, and have some interest in mechanical as well. (small gunsmithing things possibly)

Hi:

I'm a new member of this forum from North Texas. I'm retired from the Army and i currently work for an Aerospace/Defense firm. I enjoy shooting, primarily handguns, but I do head out to the big range with the long guns when I get the chance.

I am a somewhat green shooter, owning just one handgun, so far. (though I shoot airguns too, and love that) Then, as a uni student, one's enough.

I live in southern part of Moravia (that is, the southeastern part of Czech Republic). And I joined this forum mainly because I have some research to conduct and algorithms to devise and implement, this is the biggest gun forum I know of, and probably the most orderly one so discussions are likely to stick to the point.

Also, my I've been using my nick for years, so it's in no way taken from a certain notorious video-game that came out last year. I picked it because it sounds nice and describes pretty well my tendency to get carried away if doing anything that involves using physical force.

I am just a simple man who loves to shoot. By the grace of God I live on a small farm in Texas and I can shoot off of my porch any time if I would like. I started reloading 20 years ago but I was young then and did not load much. I now have a dillon 650 and spend a lot of time reloading 10mm, 40 cal, 223 cal 7mm and 308.
I have been a paramedic for 22 years and as much as I like to shoot it is almost as much fun patching the holes. I know that sounds a little off center but that just me.

I thought I would re-introduce myself

I've been a member for a long while but didn't post much, spend what time I had on other forums, then the website fiasco stuff started, etc. and I didn't come on here during all that

I've been shooting since I was 5 and grew up with unsecured :what: guns in the house, and not once did I ever want to: a)take one to school b)shoot up the neighborhood or c)any of the other stupid crap that goes on, I was taught well at an early age and I'm passing it on

I'm now a cop here in Texas and I love the job
Glock armorer, still have my CHL as a support to the cause, and looking to get my instructor certificate from the DPS this summer, and get some NRA certs to start teaching that too
I carry a G17 on duty, S&W 642 for backup, have a 870 and Rock River AR-15 in the car (AR is flatop, dominator setup with EOtech and iron sights, single point sling, light, Hogue grip, magpul mags with windows)
carry a Glock 30 off duty, sometimes Keltec P11
safe full of others floating around somewhere

I hope to post more here than I did before

jmdguns here. Live in the metro Detroit area and have been involved with guns, hunting and shooting/collecting nearly 50 yrs. Shot competitive TRAP several years and, at one time, had more than 140 firearms, including a large collection of small semi automatics.
Now retired, I've since sold the collection and am in process of selling several shotguns and rifles, concentrating on target shooting with my Beretta 9MM. Taking a CPL class tomorrow and just picked up a Ruger LCR in .357 to use as my carry gun. As I become more familiar with using this system, hope to converse with many of you.

Hello all. I've been lurking on here a while, and am starting to feel the need to speak up occassionally. I'm relatively new to guns, but I'm a quick study--I'll contribute where I think I can be helpful...

New Member, Enjoy learning from you all "in the know"

Hey, Im Johnny97216. I live in Portland Oregon. I have read a lot of what you all have written and it is nice to go somewhere other than Northwest Firearms to learn opinions from all around the United States. I have not been shooting much lately as i used to do when I was younger. I am 40 years old. I am a paraplegic so this is a sport i can still compete in using a wheelchair. I have a hunting rifle but I am looking to buy or build an AR in 5.56 or 6.8., Im still not sure witch one to do. Im an Oregonian so i love Noveske and Stubborn Mule Outdoor Supply, LLC, SM has a great lower. both from Grants Pass. Anyone who shoots from a wheelchair, PLEASE drop me a line, i ave many questions.
thanks...

Hi everyone,

I'm Larry and despite my best efforts to mess up registration, I'm now a member. So hat's off and a big Thank You to the website staff for helping me out. Thanks Mal H and to anyone else who had a hand in it. Been a long time visitor to THR and picked up some very good and needed info. Used to shoot Combat Rifle (M16) competitively in the NG way back in the day. Handload and shoot .308 and 10mm as often as the budget allows. Looking forward to learning more and enjoying the boards.
