I live Texas and have been a hunter all my life. I am a commercial contractor, splitting time between Dallas and Central Texas. I shoot skeet more often than my rifles. I own a Remington 870 12ga , Henry Lever 22, Remington 700 270, Ruger P 89 9mm, and a Rock River Arms AR 15 Varmint A4. My wife shoots with me every once in a while and I have customized to guns for her, a youth 870 20 ga, and a Ruger 10/22. Both in pink and black wood grain. I appreciate all the great advice I can find on this site.

Hi, everybody. I've been dropping by for a while now, and decided I should introduce myself. I work in film & television (although I'm looking into a career change), in my 40s, and since becoming interested in guns a couple of years ago I've learned that many of my friends are very gun-averse, and I have to be very careful about when, where, and how I talk about them. I'm politically "progressive," and, though I used to be gun-averse (but had a collection of edged weapons, replica medieval weapons as a teenager, BB gun, etc.), I had a little journey of discovery and now enjoy shooting and learning about firearms and training.

I have tried to educate people in the television industry about how guns work, but have lost several efforts to dissuade producers who want a gun to "cock" (sound effect) for dramatic effect, invariably at times when that makes no sense at all. (You know, the one where the BG threatens hero with striker-fired semiauto for ten minutes, and then, to emphasize how seriously he intends to shoot him, racks the slide...groan!:cuss:) I'm trying, people, but I'm not a high-ranking person in the pecking order!

I don't like listing my collection online, but I have some old stuff (by old I mean like 1902) and an XD. I have my eye on something in 5.56 (AR with OLL, or SU-16), and in 12 ga. Lever-action carbines look interesting to me, too, but I've never shot one. I'd love to collect more, but my gun-hating SO and financial reality (writers' strike hit me hard...) preclude that for now at least.

As soon as I can, I'd like to get some more training.

    So...hi, folks.

I found this site while researching DC v. Heller, and joined shortly thereafter. I'm a government attorney (not criminal law), NRA life member, RMEF life member, Vietnam veteran ('69-'70), hunter, fisherman, married, father of two adult, married daughters, and, of course, I own firearms. I reload for center-fire rifle hunting (antelope, mule deer, whitetail, bear, elk, coyote.) Firearms include bolt action centerfire and rimfire, lever action centerfire and rimfire, pump shotguns, a few collector Winchesters, centerfire and rimfire revolvers and auto-loaders including several 1911 models. And my dog's name is Ruger. :D

Here's a big THR welcome9.gif to all our new members. Your intros help show that gun owners are "regular folks." I wouldn't be surprised to see any of you in an "I'm the NRA" ad. ;)

    Enjoy!

    I shoulda 3 weeks ago

I should have introduced myself as new about 3 weeks ago, but I'm not much for formality.

Anyway, the kids are grown and moved on to get on with their own lives.

I'm interested in handguns, shotguns and reloading, and long distance rifle shooting.

I'm a fairly good instinctive shooter with a handgun, meaning, I don't need sights.

I'm interested in survival stuff, history, the U. S. Constitution, Religion, you know....stuff.

Just got my reloading stuff for the 12 guage in the past week. so....I'm having fun.

Really sorry to hear about your loss. Those of us who cherish our pets probably can't even imagine the loss of a true partner like your K9.

Posting a photo generally requires that you find a host such as Villagephoto or the likes. I'm sure someone here can direct you to a suitable host.

I'd love to see a picture of your pup.

    Hang in there.

I live in SE Louisiana and enjoy shooting for fun and practice for hunting. I currently have a few revolvers, some rifles, and a couple of shotguns. I also have a 1970 chevelle that I purchased several months back that needs a full resto. Guns and cars are very addicting.

    Another from Houston

I always liked guns when I was younger (46 now). After I had one stolen, just never bought another until about 3 weeks ago. Never felt the need until lately. I now own a Mossberg 590 and a Hi-Point .40 cal. I can hit the chest area from 15 yards instinctively. I am looking at the SA XD-40 for a carry gun. Seems to fit my hand. I would really like to shoot one before purchasing one. Still need to shoot the 590. I joined the NRA and have taken my CHL class and applied for my CHL. A little OCD my wife says! I also ordered all of the reloading equipment for the .40 this week. Anyways, it's as addictive as it ever was!
Thanks to THR for a great place to research.

    Newbe from Norway

Hi, I’ve been reading and posted a few times as well. I didn’t mean to be rude so I thought I’d better introduce my self. I live in Norway; enjoy hunting grouse, deer and reindeer, that’s caribou stateside. I’ve also enjoyed shooting pistols and revolvers with my dad since I was about 12, I’m now 35. I came around to this forum after searching for info on a Python I got. Next few projects are; take up reloading, fix up a Norwegian Army Mauser sniper rifle (the KV59) and learn Spanish...

I'm a Bama native living in Indiana until I can retire back South:D.I've been around guns long as I can remember;they're a staple of the Southern lifestyle.Don't know many southerners that can't shoot.

I'm retired from truckdriving, but still drive forklifts, my pick up truck, and my '92 Harley FXR Low Rider.I like huntin' and fishin' when time and the wife allow(yes, you heard that right:)).I'm also a minister with the Universal Life Church of Modesto,CA.

Most of my armament is long guns, but I still have a few handguns. My most prized is my late father's 45 slabside that he used in WW2 and Korea. It's retired from active use,but will still kill you all the same:).My everyday piece is a Berretta Bobcat .22LR with hollowpoints.Easy to carry and conceal, yet capable of dosing out fatal heartburn in a heartbeat!

I used to work at The Gun Cellar in Hoover,AL back in the '80s.Tom was the greatest guy I ever worked for and would go back there in a NY second if I could.I just saw his website recently and am glad to see that the cellar's still goin' strong.Visit them at www.guncellar.net.They're fine people to deal with, bar none!

    This one's for you,Hillary Billary:neener:!

Hello everybody. New member here from San Diego, CA, originally from MA (God help me). Finally got around (after 41 years) to getting my hunter's safety course done. I will be hooking up with a friend in the near future to do some hunting. Nothing like being mentored by an experienced hunter to learn the ins and outs.

I think this forum could be a valuable learning tool for me as well.

Hello again and drinks on me.

I am a country boy from Arkansas, moved to the big city of Atlanta after college to do the corporate thing. After two years of the BS and far to much concrete I am back in Little Rock and ready to hunt, fish, and enjoy the important things in life.

    P.S. I am a BLACK RIFLE FAN!!!!

I'm sure if you will post your question in the "Rifle Country" section, someone there will be able to help you.

    Hi Everyone!

I would like to start by thanking Mr. Oleg Volk and all the other staff members for this very excellent forum. Thank You! Was a lurker for months 'til the wife jabbed and jabbed me to become a member. As per profile, am from IL, born and raised here. After high school enlisted in Air Force from 1970-1990. What a learning experience. Discharged in CA and came back to IL (WHY?) One is just as bad as the other. Grew up on a farm, around guns all my life. Hunted, fished, trapped since 11 years old. Started reloading in '87. Was shooting in trap and skeet leagues in Air Force and going through a case and a half of shells a week. Couldn't afford to buy that much. Did this for 3 years. Now just informal target practice and lots of experimental reloading. Am lucky to have my own private shooting range close to home. (3 yards out to 600 yards) I'm a NRA Life Endowment Member and darn proud of it. I try constantly to get new members to join. Things I love most in this order are wife, food, son, food, truck, food, guns, food, etc., food, etc....

    Thank you Be safe

    P.S. I like burnt toast.

After following what was perhaps the 20th back-link to a thread on THR (most recently taliv linked back to his 5.11 HRT watch review at Long Range International) - I finally decided to regsiter.

I have returned to shooting again over the past year after about 10 years away from it. Working in Newark, NJ affords me precious little freedom and it is hard to return home to northeast PA often enough to exercise my rights there but I am trying to do so more and more.
