My local shop has a few of them, one is on hold for me as I am awaiting the arrival of a different Sig, but curious if these are fairly hard to find or not.

These are NOT M11/A1s with P228 on the grips, but P228s w/ night sights made in the U.S. Looks a lot like the M11 on the shelf next to it, but it doesn't have the special coated parts. Nice looking and feeling gun. Might be mine if my other Sig order doesn't show up for a while..:) Only bad thing is they're all 9mms which I may not be able to get ammo for anytime soon.

Were I in the market for a 228, or 226, I would hold off and get a surplus one the next time some popped up. Sigs are great guns, but I don't think anything about a standard P series warrants the $800 prices.

I paid close to $500 for my used, Swiss police trade in Sig P228 so $800 isn't that bad. P228's are hard to come buy, I lucked out and found on on GunsAmerica..... I bet they don't last a few days before they are all sold......

If there's a breech block which is separate from the slide, that's an actual P228.

The M11-A1 that they are selling now is a rebadged 9mm 229. Not a bad gun, but it isn't a real 228.

I had a Sig 228 refurbed in 2006. The grips were too fat for my small hands but the gun was nice. I traded it for a Glock 23 which fits my hand well.

They are somewhat hard to find but not enough IMO that it would add anything to their price. Any real P228, with carbon steel folded slide, is a terrific pistol so if you like it for what it is then buy it.

The P228s that are bringing in the big dollars are NIB P228s that were made and proofed in Germany/W. Germany from the 80s/90s with original case. manual, and test target.

Here is my only P228 - a Zurich Police trade in that was A+ graded that I got for $570 about 2 1/2 years ago. My favorite 9MM pistol along with my P226s.

I'm a bit confused by the two statements above.

All SIG 228s are chambered in 9mm, they have never been offered in any other chambering. Also the SIG 228 was never made in the US. Might you be talking about a 228R, which is a 228 slide mounted on a 9mm 229R frame?

THey are very good guns but overrated in my opinion. THe bad part is, if you have to have it serviced it has to go to Sig . Changing that firing pin and spring alone is gonna entail punching out the split pin and needing a new one. The wrong punch size tools can wreck it and devalue the gun.

I d go for a glock 19 anytime and anyday IMHO.

Well I decided to go for it. The gun fits my hands nicely, doesn't have a rail (which I prefer) and the price was quite reasonable.

Apples and oranges. I would suggest that people who are interested in hammer fired pistols understand the difference between hammer fired and striker fired and are knowingly choosing the hammer fired offering.

I'm curious about the 228 you found. I've got the 225, and my son's now have my 226, and 229's, and I've been on the hunt for a 228 for a while now, as they were discontinued before I could buy one. A couple years ago they brought them back briefly with the rail, but I won't buy a gun with a rail. The only 228's I had seen recently were refurbished guns.

I did see the M-11 at a recent show, and it's VERY nice, and sports a 15 round mag instead of the 12. I was waiting for the price to stabilize before taking the plunge.

But back to your 228 - is this a NIB 228 sans rail or a refurb?

P.S. I'm not knocking Glocks - I have a 19 that I got through a police discount program and they work very well - but for ME it doesn't compare to a Sig. That's why we have options...

Your going to post pics right? Can you pm the shop in case I have to have the other one?

Glocks are tool, one of many with nothing unique about them. They are accurate and reliable, with few moving parts. Sig's are a work of art, they have soul... I own 2 Glocks and I like them, I own 5 Sig's and I love them. That's the difference in my opinion. And we all know what opinions are like don't we. LOL

my P228 a Swiss police trade-in (see the emblem on the slide)
