I picked up a keltec pf9 at the last gun show and finally took it to the range this morning. Here are my results:

I fired 50 rds of federal 115gr fmj, 30 rds of WWB 115gr, and even a mag of 124 gr hydra shoks. The only problem is that my hand is still sore! The gun ate every round I fed it.

I was hitting the black at 15 ft, just a little to the left.

I am happy that it runs like it should. I guess I need one of those Hogue grips for it (did I mention that the recoil was stout?), a spare mag, and a decent pocket holster.

Same here - picked up a used-like-new PF9 at the Dixie show a few weeks back. Just happened to notice it as I was leaving the show - someone had traded it in minutes before. $250 out the door w/ box & 3 mags!

Haven't had a chance to hit the range w/ it yet, but I tried a buddy's PF9 a while back - so I knew what I was getting into w/ the recoil.

I've sung the praises of mine until recently. Encountered a few problems with it. It literally went into single action mode. I realize that sounds impossible, but the hammer remained back... stuck somehow.

Anyway, I need to send it in to KT. Hope you enjoy yours.

Yeah, me too! A friend let me borrow his to shoot a BUG (back up gun) Match. The recoil on his was stiff, but manageable with just 1 mag thru it per stage. Dont shoot more than 50 rds per session, that's when it started to get painful.

Nice score at the Dixie Show! That's where I got mine, but I didnt get as sweet as a deal as you did. Does yours have the steel mag release? My understanding is that if it does, you have all the latest upgrades to the pf9.

Are you using the extended magazine plates?

It might help with the painful recoil. God knows it's the only reason I can even think of to explain why I'm not bothered by the recoil on my PF-9.

I can just BARELY get all three fingers onto the grip. My knuckles are all squeezed together, my middle finger is jammed to the underside of the triggerguard, and sometimes I worry that my little finger is going to tear the magazine out of the magazine well with how much tension I can feel from my hand compressing like that, but it gives me one really solid grip on it, and I can fire box after box at the range without serious discomfort... well, it was only a box and a half. I ran out. But still... no pain, no soreness except from how my fingers were squeezed together.

No I am not using the extended mag plate, according to what I read at KTOG, the only thing that'll dampen recoil is the hogue slip on grips, or something like it. I dont want to use that plate because it makes the grip a little longer and more difficult to pull from the pocket.

I just dont plan on shooting more than 50 rds per range session, anyway. Hogue grip or not.

Yes, mine has the metal mag release. I checked the serial # when I got home, and it has all the factory updates.

It's a nice little gun, congratulation on the find. I picked mine up used for $290, lady did not like the recoil. As for recoil, I've shot several sessions of +100rds with at least 100rds of defense ammo and recoil has never been an issue for me. I have a Pachmyr slip-on and my wife uses the adhesive recoil reducers. But really, it is only a 9mm, recoil is not too bad. :D

Good find! Now get a houge or other type of fitted grip on it. I've had mine for about 3 years now, and have had nothing but good things to say about it.

Recoil relief

Get a Hogue Hand-all Jr slip on grip for your PF-9. It's just a thin rubbery slip on, but it makes a very noticeable difference.

I bought a PF9 for my girlfriend. She liked it , but it was not very accurate, and she could not shoot it very well due to the long DA trigger pull. Other than that it was reliable with everything we shot through it. She also had complaints about the grip being rough. I cut a section of bicycle innertube and made a "slip on" grip for it , and it made it a bit better.

Don't have a PF9, but I don't find the P11 hard to shoot or that it has much recoil, and, it is very accurate. +P are fine, but do have a little muzzle whip to 'em. When I go to the range, I usually shoot 50 .357 magnums, OR 50 or 100 .38s. I'll put 50 or 100 out of the P11 just about every trip cause it's my carry and cause I can whip 'em out pretty quick on the dillon when I get home. I'll finish with a couple hundred rounds of .22 or more in my Mk2 and my Rossi 511 revolver. Sometimes I'll shoot the .45 colt with light or .44 mag hot handloads or I'll shoot the .45ACP. I really don't notice the 9 in the scheme of things and my hand is not sore.

Only gun that ever hurt me was a contender with a pachmayr grip and a .45-70 barrel on it and an SP101 with 180 grain hot magnum handloads with the stock grip. My middle finger was swollen from the impact of the trigger guard. A Hogue grip fixed that one and I now know I don't want a .45-70 barrel for my contender, LOL!

Percieved recoil is very subjective! To me, my pf9 hurts almost as much to shoot as my S&W66 performance center with full house .357's in it. I dont shoot it much anymore, but when I do, it's with 38's.

I picked mine up just after they hit the gunstores. I previously carried the P11 but it has since ben promoted to the nightstand gun. I love the fact that I can slide it in my pocket in a Galco Pocket Holster and no one knows it is there. I do also like the hooked magazine extention. Helps keep the gun positioned in the pocket and aids in the draw. I have big hands so it really helps me hold the gun when shooting.
