New Production S&W “No Locks”

The 19 looks good, though the shape of the rear of the frame by the hammer still looks wrong compared to any of the older pre-lock guns I've had/have. At least it's a step in the right direction.

S&W just deprecated there “Lock” used gun market!

NICE 627 8 shot 9mm, used with Lock, here I come. Better be CHEAP too

Used ILS models have always been less desirable than the pre-lock versions, on models that existed before the lock was introduced. No matter what the MSRP may have tried to indicate with respect to pricing. For obvious reasons, models that were introduced after the lock don't see this effect. So unfortunately, you may be in for a wait on finding your cheap 8-shot 9mm 627! :D

(Using the Model 19 as an example, I foresee the collectible desirability going Combat Magnum > P&R Model 19 > 19-4 to whatever engineering change just predates the ILS > "new" Model 19 Classic > ILS Model 19 > previous Model 19 Classic with ILS.)

Old Smith are smoother than New Smith anyway

It's like "New Coke" and "Old Coke". Get the people to hate the "New Coke", then bring back the "Old Coke" and rake in the $$$. Marketing genius. Their marketing department was just a little slow to react. I, for one, bow down to the marketing overlords - if/when I get a perceived "deal".:notworthy:

Now, after just buying a 686-6, I'm guessing the price of the "classic with internal lock", or "New Coke", is going to be falling now that "Old Coke" is back in the fridge. Future Overlord: "We are offering clearance pricing!" Me, in strained, halting speech and sounding eerily like William Shatner: "Must. Resist. Deal. "New Coke". Not. On. List.....Ahhhh!!!!"

I had a nice flat latch Model 36. After I bought my Kimber K6S and K6Xs it went down the road fast. I love my Smiths but the Model 36 wasn't a favorite.

They going to do a hammer firing pin again?
I highly doubt that, and I don't blame them. I rather just have to buy and change a firing pin vs a whole new hammer. I think Rossi is the only modern revolver manufacturer that has the fitting pin on the hammer, but even their design allows for the pin to be replaced independently from the hammer.

This kind of has me wanting to sell off my two IL 686 and my 2.75" 69 before the market drops. If S&W releases K, L, and N frames without the IL, the prices and demand for the current offerings will drop by hundreds of dollars. Everyone will be trying to dump and replace there IL Smiths.
