New Ruger Pistol Caliber Carbine?

Fell out of and ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down...

That said if they make one in 40S&W and an adapter for SA XD-40 magazines I could be persuaded into getting one, maybe...

I wonder how well they will make it as Pistol Caliber Carbine in USPSA? I think the magazine release is going to hurt it there, got to be able to release that magazine with the strong hand without changing grip.

I've been wanting a non-AR, non-KelTec, non-High Point, non-Beretta, 9mm PCC for some time.
Did you man to add "... non-Uzi, non-MAC (non-Defender), non-KRISS, non-CZ (Skorpion EVO)"? I presume you lump Aero Survival, Thureon, and JRC together with the AR crowd, although they are somewhat far removed from real ARs. I have to say there's a crazy number of PCCs on the market these days, even without oldies like Marlin and H&K MPS. Heck you can even convert a Tavor.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just not excited about the new carbine. It has no appeal to me from a practical nor an impractical standpoint.

I generally like Ruger stuff. They make a solid revolver and I think their 1911s are some of the nicer guns for the money on the market. The American bolt rifles are okay too for what they are.

Oh well, I guess I can't like everything Ruger makes...

Oh yeah, tastes are bound to differ. I, for example, have zero interest in ARs even though they’re more popular than Game of Thrones (also not interested in game of thrones).

I don’t think they should be banned, I’m just thoroughly unexcited about them.

I think what excites me about the pc carbine is that it’s a new to the market (re introduction if we’re being honest) semi auto that isn’t yet another AR.

I will buy one for sure, maybe two if my wife likes it. This looks like a great vehicle gun, toting around on the ATV, and a generally fun fun as well. I have both tons of Glock mags and 9mms ammo, so what's not to like? I'm going to buy the first one I see.

And...the rear sight is a ghost ring...done deal for me!

Pretty much. It would have been a long list. :D

Except the CZ, I'd like to have the CZ.

The one glaring problem I do see is the magazine release location, other than that if they get the price right it will be a hot item. Seems like they could have borrowed from the AR9 lower magazine release design and had a hinged magazine release bar that locates it close to the trigger guard.

Good God it's ugly, but I'm all in for the function/price. I'm fine with the plastic stock and mag well, I'm sure making them out of aluminum or some such would have jacked the price and weight for no real benefit. Under 7lbs, 7075 anodized receiver, threaded takedown barrel, tungsten weighted short stroke recoil action, endless options for good triggers, comes with an SR9 magwell and a Glock magwell in the box, all for what will realistically be a settled-down street price of $500 ish with sale prices in the $400's. What's not to like?

I'll take my integrally suppressed barrel in .40 S&W please.

I'm sure there are people

I'm sure there are people who will use the Ruger in USPSA and IDPA but I don't think the gun will be competitive. That's partly why I would have rather they did some kind of AR variant.

I suspect we may see other calibers in the future ?
Let's hope so. As utilitarian and unsightly the MechTech is, it still seems to be the easiest way to assemble a carbine in a pistol caliber of your choice. Not to mention suppressing it.

I was looking at the Beretta---but the ability to use a Glock 33-rounder is a huge plus for the Ruger.

I'll probably get one once the beta testers have wrung it out.

I doubt the aftermarket 10-22 trigger kits will work without some modification but if its really close to the same the aftermarket should catch up pretty quickly.

The Gunblast review

It may be worth taking this with a grain of salt. Jeff never says anything negative about any gun in his reviews.

I met Jeff at Gunsite back a few years ago. We asked him why he never posted anything negative. He said his mom always told him if he couldn't say something nice he shouldn't say anything.

What he does is post reviews on guns that he likes or that work as he expects them to. He said he does get guns from manufacturers that don't function. These get sent back with nothing being posted.

I have the cz. It's OK, but feels very much like a beta version of a better gun. Trigger is garbage, safety needs work, grip needs work, forend on both pistol and rifle needs work, charging handle needs to be bigger........ It's not bad, it just feels like they should have tested this model with people!e who have actually held or fired a gun, then used that feedback to modify their design.

I'm excited about this gun. I kind of hate the ar platform, and even if you do like it, it suppresses poorly (gas in face) and is a very bulky package (in terms of vertical height) and the buffer tube is loud when suppressed.

I think there is for sure a market for this guy. Try to find a Ruger carbine or marlin camp rifle on the used market, they're not there. People don't turn them loose.

I do wish it was a pound lighter, didn't have a rail at the front of the stock, was a little sleeker designed, not a takedown, made in stainless and $50 cheaper, but you can't have everything I guess. Depending on how it performs and feels in hand, I would consider trading in my cz for this.

For those complaining about it's aesthetics, the Sub2K ain't pretty, and the HiPoint carbine is legendary in its hideousness. I think this thing looks fine.

"Dead blow action"?

Thought it might get better the more I looked at it. Nope still ugly. It might be a great PPC especial if they expand the calibers and magazine adapter options but it will never be a pretty PPC.
