If you just had to have that earlier 'Bloodwork' 627, a 2 5/8" barrel X8 with a non-fluted cylinder, you probably noted it's meteoric price increase over the years - as much as $2,500-$3,500 recently. Well, S&W has a 2010 offering - with the same SKU (170133), no less. In fact, only one simple way to differentiate between the two production runs - probably ten years apart. Yep - the current one has an IL! I don't care - <$1,200 list, I had to order one - it came into my pusher yesterday... and came home with me today.

Years of anticipation were somewhat thwarted when the grips were a bit gapped at the front. I put some Ahrends on - still a gap - shortened the roll pin at the bottom of the gripframe - emery boards are useful - gap gone. I tried the OEM boots - still a gap. A call to S&W Monday is in order - a kilobuck gun shouldn't leave S&W, much less their Performance Center Shop, like that. Speaking of the PC Shop - it came in a grey plastic 'PC Shop' box - thought it was a Ruger! No rubber grips or rug, either. A trio of X8 'clips, cable lock, spent case, and pair of IL keys, as well as the Owner's Manual, NRA discount coupon, and Club 1852 application completed the inclusions list.

I went across town with my wife - to feed one of her co-worker's cats - and just happened to have my bag with the new 627 in it as we came close to my club's range... it really wasn't a big detour. Three 'clips - 24 rounds into a log on the berm - glorified .38s in .357M cases - fun! It definitely had a trigger job/lockwork tweaking - evidenced by the Wolff 'Power Rib' hammer spring installed. My most expensive firearm purchase to date - broke a kilobuck with sales tax added - but I 'had' to have it - wanted it for too many years - now it's here - er, there - below - with my nearly two-year old 627 Pro - on my deck. Yep, it's really here!

I had to add this - current, 2009, actually, Owner's Manual - Excuse me, Safety & Instruction Manual - page 19 top line - WARNING: THE REVOLVER WILL FIRE IF THE TRIGGER IS PULLED!. Gotta wonder about that one.

Nice. Very very nice. That's one of the grail guns for me. I can't afford a 3" Python, so it's the Bloodwork gun at the top of my revolver list.

Here it is with the Ahrends rounded non-fg in Cocobolo stocks:

Should be fun - it 'points' well with those Ahrends and it's OEM sights. I cannot believe they brought it back out at $1,185 MSRP - that's about where it was as the 'Ultimate Defensive Revolver' in 1999! Eastwood's character in the '02 movie 'Blood Work' wasn't known for his marksmanship - still, when I finally saw the movie, a few years later, it stirred the pot - my interest peaked - again. I traded for a JM 627 PC V-Comp - and promptly contacted the PC Shop for a 2 5/8" barrel swap - they had none, Same story Summer 08 when, happy as a lark over my 627 Pro, I contacted them re another such swap. No barrels - no hope, either. ~1.5 yr later, I have the gun in my sweaty mitts!!

Mine was a blessed Easter weekend - in many ways - I hope everyone else had one as well.

.357 Mag 8 x

Nice looking revolver Stainz!

My 1st edition one without the Internal Lock. I switched the Eagle grips out for Spegel ones. I really like the big and fat snubs. The laser etching on my barrel is wearing thin. I prefer the old roll mark method of ID'ing a gun better.

just watched Bloodwork this weekend(again) and said.......yeah I do need one of those, had no idea S&W had them back(even with the lock)

think I will order one

I have the taurus 608 but with a 8 3/8 barrel. purchased at a gun show for a fun range shooter. Great shooter. have compared to the new production 8 shot 627 smith, prfer my Taurus. and will buy the Four inch model, shame Taurus does not make a three inch

@ Stainz-

The new 627 came in a grey plastic PC box, not the aluminum PC box?? For that money you'd think they'd use the nicer looking box.

I've suddenly become interested in a 627!! ;)

I have one other PC Shop gun - a JM PC627 V-Comp. That metal PC case looks like a PRC-made box from Harbor Freight, so I'd just as soon not spend money on it. Mine is still at the default combination (all zeros), the same as others I've seen. Interestingly, S&W confirmed that the original 'UDR' 627 snubby of 1999 had an MSRP of $1,199 - this identical, except for the IL, one today has an MSRP of $1,185 - go figure!

While I had S&W on the 'phone this AM, I asked about the ill-fitting Eagle Boots. They are sending me a prepaid FEDEX label for it's return - and they'll ship me another set - that fits. I put those Ahrends on - they fit perfectly - great feel when shooting - fantastic pointer. Get one before they figure out they made an error in pricing it!

PC627 on GunBroker at $905.oo Buy it Now!!

FYI. I have no knowledge of any parties in this transaction, just passing along information.:p

Item=163757265

This little disclaimer in the listing would give me pause, however:

"All items we list are in stock with at least one of our distributors at the time of the listing. If an item is not available (at one of our distributors) when payment is received it will be refunded promptly, in full. "

Very nice! It's aways nice to find something you have lusted after for years.

That is a sweet little rig you picked up!

I've been eyeing the PC 657 Revolver - 2 5/8" .41 Magnum...just trying to figure out how to fund the new toy. :D

1040,

Davidson's price was good, too. Like Gunbroker, they don't know when they will get their 'allotted' revolvers. Add s/h and ffl xfr, and my price still looks fine to me. Big plus - I got mine last Saturday!! Support your local B&M gunstores.

MrBill120,

Made me look - made me look! I watched the first few minutes last night - you are right - his had flutes! Well, I like it anyway!

Stains, I just saw your posting about this revolver over here in the 642 club.

Did a google search and found this; top hit.

Read it through. Wow. What a revolver. Instant gun lust.

Any updates?

Also, what's the empty weight on this beast? Can't be light.

Nema,

According to pg 56 of S&W's 2010 catalog, it weighs 37.6 oz - and the 4" 627 Pro, pg 53, weighs 41.2 oz - they feel the same - at least close - they point similarly when sporting the same grips, too. Here is what I have now - and the 627 Pro in the earlier entry.

and here is what I said goodbye to in order fo buy the second one:

IMG_3707.jpg

That had the best DA trigger of any revolver I ever touched - and it would pop any primer! I just didn't shoot it - it's black/black sights really were hard for my 'mature' peepers to use. I don't miss it. Much. Really. I need a tissue...

Thanks, Stainz.

Heavy, but beautiful.

And "heavy" is relative, says the airweight j-frame owner about an 8-shot .357 mag capable N-frame.

My 2.5 686 now seems so............. Lacking
Yeah, I understand.

But think of it this way. Your 686 has at least 1 more shot (two if 7) than my j frame, and it eats .357 mag.

Look at the bright side.
