New shotgun

I am in the market for a new 12ga semi auto shotgun, under $1,000, would prefer $800 area. I considered a Weatherby sa-08, but they are made in Turkey. I don't care much for the o-ring problems that Remingtons have, or their lousy quality issues ( or so they appear). I like the Franchi I-12, but have read a fair amount of bad reviews for the as well. Does anyone have any suggestions? it will be used mostly for shooting clays through pheasants, & maybe an occasional duck or goose. thanks

Saiga 12 gauge...I just got one from a vendor on Auction Arms for $606.00 (that was with shipping to Alaska). The original auction price was $566.00

It is built like a tank, and there are a lot of accessories for it.

Of course, it is made in Russia...

That's exactly why I selected a Benelli M2. No gas system to be bothered with as it is Inertia drive, 28" barrel lets me hunt well with it. Very happy with it.

You should be able to buy it cheaper than that. They just had a $150 rebate, but that may have ended. You may be able to find a used one in good shape for a lot less.

Lots of Benelli Montefeltros on gunbroker, also a Benelli 121 that is at a steal me price, fixed choke but easy enough to has chokes added.

The Mossberg 930 line of auto loaders falls in to your price category. They have plenty of options and barrel lengths to choose from and should fit your needs as described in the original post.

I don't have any personal experience with Mossberg auto loaders but I may pick up the 930 SPX one of these days.
It's a sweet looking gun with a lot of features that appeal me!

I continue to marvel at the reliability problems my friends have with gas guns. In semi-autos I have for years used nothing but a Benelli M1 or Montefeltro and old Browning A-5s and have no such issues. The Brownings are not new but for my money they are timeless designs, if they fit you. I think a Benelli that works for just over $1K beats something that costs less (or more) that does not. I'm not trying to offend Beretta etc guys who love their guns -- it's just that in my hunting group the Brownings and Benellis work and the Berettas and Remingtons don't. Just my experience.

I bought mine used for 700. And it has shot flawless. ( and truthfully, I have treated it like crap).

A good used Beretta 391 is an excellent choice for your anticipated useage.

DON'T DO IT!!
The humungous, hideous front sight on mine was totally off. Incorrectable with adjustment of the rear sight. Clearly a quality control issue. Took me nine months and had to order three different times to get a new one and still hated the sights, although the issue was fixed. I just had a smith hack off the front sight and put a bead on it. I remove the rail aswell. It would probably be a heck of a lot easier to just buy the home security model and buy a mag extension. Of course, I still have the rail in the closet and could have it put back on if I decide to throw glass on it sometime.

i suggest the Benelli Nova 3 1/2, I own one and love it. i have not had any problems with this shotgun, it swings VERY NICE.

Winchester SX3


Winchester SX2 can probably still be found. Also a great gun for a bit less than the 3.

I have touted it on this and other forums many times, but you will be hard pressed to find a better semi auto shotgun than the Beretta 390 / 3901. They can be had with synthetic stock for around $570.00. The wood stocked models will run a bit more. Best value in an auto loading shotgun available today. Absolutely reliable and will outlast you. I have two with many many thousands of rounds through them without any issues of any kind.

A big bonus for me is that the 3901 is made right here in the USA in Accokeek Maryland.
