It looks like Sig has added to their product line with a P224. Its a double stack mag with 11 rounds in 9mm or 10 rounds in .40or.357. It appears that its main advantage over the P239 is that it is a smaller height and lighter weight and can take the 12 round Mag's of the P229.

Fantastic but like most SIG guns these days it's way overpriced. An MSRP of $1100+? I could see myself paying $700 for it if it's real nice but even then I'd be crying:scrutiny:

It's about time this Sig did this! Definitely on my "next" list! However, as mentioned above, it is pretty pricey. I'm hoping it hits the streets an no more than $800. Otherwise, I'll just go with another Glock...

Kind of neat, but is it cooler than the rumored single stack M&P?

I've been waiting for something like this ... but will wait a bit longer. Say a year or so to see what the folks say, and let Sig work out any kinks in the new product.

The classic p226/228 style slide is smart. DAK as the only option for 9mm is dissapointing. Looks like it comes with both three-dot night sights and bar dot options.

Single stack M&P coming you say.

Yep, If I get a P224 sometime down the road, I will still keep my single stack P239 no matter what.

I like it.

A SA/DA 9mm would round out my collection. If it comes out in that...very smart of SIG. And just what they needed....they should play to their strong suit of all metal guns, with that trade mark slide.

Smart...if SA/DA 9mm.... I am in, especially with a 229 magazine. I personally like compacts with a grip about 4.75-5 inches. At 25 oz...this would be have a similar carry feeling to my Kimber Ultra .45 (I use full sized 1911 mags in the Ultra, with a spacer...makes for a better grip...so this would be similar with a 229 mag).

Thanks for posting.

Love the looks of this gun and I really like the DA/SA in future models. The weight isn't bad but the thing is just too thick. A lot of people consider Glocks too thick and they are 1.18". I am glad that Sig is catching up but this is not going to be a game changer. My 226 is my favorite gun and I think Sigs are worth the money and if the 224 was at least as thin as the Glocks and a little lighter I would be drooling all over the 224.

I agree about the thickness...but SIG has made some effort in that direction. The new slimmer grips are 1.3" vs the former 1.5" ...I think....I do not have a new one but did have a 226.

Most 1911's are about 1.25"? So.... 1.3" ...I might be able to live with for a compact, all metal SIG, weighing 25oz.

We shall see. Would really like to see one in SA/DA. And see it with the 229 mag. I assume there will be some kind of spacer for the extended mag.

If anyone has updated info...please post?

Best

J

I think its probably a bi5 big for a backup gun, but might be very attractive for concealed carry. I've been pondering getting a CZ RAMI for some time now, and the p224 might be a game changer for me (by way of reference, my main carry pieces are the p225 and p229).

P224 CZ RAMI
Weight 1.6" 1.6"
Length 6.7" 6.5"
BBL length 3.5" 3.0"
Height 4.5" 4.7"
Width 1.3" 1.3"
Capacity 12 10/14

Again however, I think I'll wait a bit to see what the market feedback is, let Sig work out any kinks, and hopefully Sig will also offer a SA/DA in 9mm in the near future...
