New Sig Pro 2022 vs. Old P6/P225

Not much experience of my own so I thought I would ask you guys:

I can buy a retired German police P6/P225 in "Very Good" condition (with 1, 8rd mag.) that is around 20 years old for $370. I can also get a new Sig Pro 2022 for around $500 (comes with 2, 15rd mags.)

Which should I spend my limited budget on?

Either one is a great gun. Because it's slimmer, the P6 will hide a tad bit easier for CCW. Since they are 20 years old, you might want to order a spring kit for it from Sig, get more original factory mags, and then stock up on ammo...the 2022 is a fine gun as well, and I think it takes the standard P228/229 mags which are easier to find. Plus, it holds more bullets... :-D

If you are caught on the Sig brand.... then I would go with the P6 and try to spend the extra savings on 2 extra mags and some ammo.

I was never impressed by the polymer Sigs.

Thanks for the input. How would I know if the P6 needed a spring kit?

Also, I have only shot the P239 (which I liked but it's too expensive.) Are either of the two that I mentioned terribly dissimilar?

I sure like my 2022...I bought it to carry because of the polyframe
and lighter weight and I think its a hair narrower?

The P6 is a single stack 9mm that has a old school P series profile. It is very similar to the P239...

The Sig Pro 2022 is a polymer wonder 9mm that hold 15+1. It is a large guy with a higher profile. The latest batch that came in were made in Germany. They are very nice with one hell of a DA trigger.

The only issue with the SP2022 is that it is very thick in the grip near the frame. It is too large there IMHO... If you get one of the ifalon finished guns made and assembled in Germany you get an outstanding trigger and a very under rated gun....

They never really caught on but they are a great gun... to me they are a better deal than the P6. The age is not the issue with the P6, its love of ball ammo and its crude production make the Sig Pro a better buy IMHO.

It may not, but since it's a 20 year old gun it won't hurt anything to put new springs in it. Keep the old ones around as spares.

I LOVE my P6

The original DA trigger pull on my p6 was pretty tough. i changed out the hammer spring, recoil spring, and mag springs. she now runs like a champ. i replaced the hammer spring with a lower power one which greatly improved the DA trigger pull. check out WOLFF springs if you havent already.

one thing i noticed about the original mag springs is that they were waay worn out. mine came with 2 mags and when i disassembled them both one spring was 2" longer then the other when sitting on my desk. it was obvious the cop didnt cycle which mags he used in his gun. he just always used the same one. so the one mag that was always loaded REALLY needed new springs. wolff has it all for this gun. with some love shell love you back ten fold.

The P6 is amaaaaazingly accurate. it feeds my winchester JHP's just fine. like others have said it is a single stack which makes it thin and is great for CCW, which i do use it for. in a self defense situation i feel that 8+1 rounds is ample. especially with the accuracy this gun has.

The P6 is everything a Sig should be. dependable, accurate, sleek, and SUPER easy to field strip/clean.

after letting friends shoot it they either want to buy mine or have me help them get one and fix it up.

Despite what some say I consider the P6 to be the equal of just about any SIG made. That said, its major drawback is the issue of feeding with JHP. For that reason I would recommend the 2022 if the gun will be for self-defense and JHP is to be fired or you don't want top use PowerBall.

The 2022, much like my 2340, is a darn fine gun. But, if hollwpoints aren't an issue, or you are willing to use PowerBalls, the P6 offers a classic SIG made during a time when many argue that they were at their best.
