Just picked this up a short while ago. A blued SP-101. You don't see these very oftem. Ruger should did a nice polish job on the metal before bluing the gun. Yes the trigger pull is heavy and so is the SA pull. But that is easily made better with a little polish work and new springs. And I already have the springs on hand so no big deal. This sure makes me want a blued 4" GP-100. But for now the gun budget has to replenish a little.
I like the look of the blues one...and yes the finish is smooth. I have a 2-1/4" S/S DAO in .357 with lighter hammer and trigger springs that is an absolute pleasure to shoot. Enjoy your new gun!
I almost bought a blued Sp101 but instead got one of the black cerakoted ones instead which I like but I’m still hankering for a blued one. I had a blued and a stainless Birdshead 45 acp and I traded the blued one thinking the stainless was more practical but I’m not so sure I wouldn’t prefer the blued one. I think that’s a goid looking revolver.
Nice looking SP! I like the blue especially with those inserts. I've got a blued 4" GP100 that I use Renassiance Wax on. It's non abrasive and puts a nice shine on it. Good luck with it.
Thanks for the tip on the wax. I would have liked to of found the black cerakote finished gun but I haven't seen one for sale anywhere in a long time. And there are none shown on the Ruger website that I can find. This gun is too nice to send off and have it cerakoted. So I guess it will live its life as a nice blued revolver. What a shame. I have so many new guns I need to go shoot. Hopefully soon now that its cooling off some.
The black Cerakote must have been a limited run or perhaps it wasn’t as popular as they hoped. I think the blued is prettier but I do like it.
Congratulations the blued SP’s are beautiful. I have just picked up a stainless 9mm yesterday. I have owned several SP’s but this is my first 9mm.
I have several stainless revolvers but I don't think you can beat a blued revolver. Looks like a fine purchase Thomas T. NorthBorder, Wow, there's a lot good going on here. Maybe the perfect GP100.
Northborder I'm a sucker for a fixed sight gun. They look so spartan and utilitarian. Just takin' care of business.
I’ve never held nor even seen a blued SP, that gun looks great . I’d love to find a blued 5” GP 327 Fed and a 4” GP .357 with the half lug barrels. (Sooner or later that GP .357 will morph into a 6-shot .41 Special .) Stay safe.
You did well! Enjoy! Thus far, blued SP101 fiveguns have eluded me. They seemed to be rather rare, even well before panic-demic times. So, I have accumulated several, all stainless steel. The SP101 is a wonderfully-sized carry gun, with a factory grip that just reaches the “heel bone” of my hand, resulting in better stability, when held, than most compact handguns.
