Happened to be in the Clovis, NM area on Friday and heard they were having a Friends of NRA banquet. Figured what the heck, it beat sitting in a hotel room most of the evening. Ended up being a pretty good idea after all!
I picked up their 'Gun of the Year' - a Daniel Defense DDM4V7 w/ a Giselle (sp?) trigger and a special 'rattle-can' cerakote job.
Good meal and a lot of fun. If one's around you, you won't be sorry to have gone!

Snazzy. If I can get enough hours this summer, I want to get me a DD5V2. The DDs usually get rave reviews. I doubt you'll be disappointed. It probably shoots even better than it looks...

Manners tells me not to ask what you paid for it!?
At our recent Friends of NRA event, a local shop owner (or more accurately, his wife, although he paid) got into a bidding war with a local town big wig and ended up paying $2,600 for it.

This was my 3rd Friends of NRA event, and they did such good work during the last election, I figured I'd help them out a bit - I bought a table for this year's event and selected the DDM4 V11 Tornado for buying the table. I gave the dinner tickets away to local gun enthusiasts, many who had never been to the event before. Everyone at the table also got their choice of either a SS NRA mug or Buck knife.
One of the first-timers at our table had beginners luck and won a SS Taurus Judge from the Wall of Guns. Darn if I didn't actually win something, although it was "just" $50 for being an early table buyer.

For those of you that haven't attended one of these events, you ought to get hold of the table packages available. I don't know that I'd pay that much for a Daniel Defense, although I am growing to appreciated it.

The same local shop owner that got the NRA edition this year turned me on to the tables a few years ago.
He's bought the same table I got for the last two years - he selects the DD rifle table ($2,017 this year), sells the rifle, and gives the meal tickets away to his best customers. His table happened to be next to mine, and his customers won quite a few guns this year.

The DD table package is not a bad deal for the money - the table is not much higher than the MSRP of the gun ($1,847) - the other table packages are not quite as good a deal. I was also interested in the Ruger Precision Rifle, but that table went for $2,500, so the table is almost twice the value of the gun.

If some of you folks want to help the NRA out (and yourselves), you might look into the table packages for an event near you.

All the newbies at our table really enjoyed themselves and I've got a feeling a few of them will be back next year.
Food will vary with location, but it's always good at our event. You are also given two beverage tickets when you enter, to be used for either a beer or soft drink. Since I'm drinking the free tea and coffee, I give my beer tickets away.

I'm thinking about buying a ticket for the event in the next town over this fall.

Check out the Friends of NRA site for an event near you!

Here's a PDF of this year's Standard Package Catalog:

This is just the "big stuff" the NRA brings to the banquet - there's usually a few extras not in the catalog, and there are numerous items donated by local businesses and NRA members for raffle.
We also have a "Wall of Guns" - you pay $20 a ticket, and when 50 tickets are sold, they hold a drawing. If you win, you select the gun of your choice from the wall - they then do it all again, selling 50 tickets for each drawing until all guns are gone.

If you want to see the table packages for your area, you're going to have to:
1. Go to https://www.friendsofnra.org/eventtickets/Events/StateMap
2. Select your state to find an event
3. On the Upcoming Events page, select the "More Info" link for the event you're interested in
4. At the bottom of this page, click on the "Click Here for Details on Table Packages"
This should bring up a PDF of all the table packages available at the event you're interested in.

Just something to think about...?
