New York hunters

I am still trying to figure out what a dmap is.
The Cornell hunts are DMAP hunts.
DMAPs are given to the individual/organization that is suffering the damage from the deer. AFAIK, you can't apply for a DMAP to control deer damage on someone else's property. In this case, I expect that Cornell has the DMAPs which they give to the hunters.

My biggest disappointment with the new rules is that they didn't change the minimum width for crossbows. Right now a crossbow has to be 17" wide at the pulleys (outside edges) to be legal for hunting. The industry is moving to narrower crossbows and soon NY hunters will be stuck hunting with bargain basement, entry level bows only.

I think the NY Crossbow Coalition keeps making a strategic blunder. They are lobbying for a number of changes, including opening up all of bow season to crossbows. I find bowhunters to be pretty jealous of their "alone time" to the point where many are upset about the youth hunt in October. Imagine being pissed that some kid might get a deer instead of you! Anyway, pushing to open up all of bow season to crossbow immediately mobilizes the very politically active NY Bowhunters Associations. Crossbow hunters already get the peak of the rut. We should be focused on other issues related to crossbows. Let the bowhunters sit out in the woods in early October when the hunting isnt very good and maybe they won't be so motivated to block changes to crossbow regs.

I got excited about that hunt and then saw that it doesn't cover 8H. Very surprised at that. I always see multiple deer with an hour of sitting at my buddy's property in 8H. They're like roaches there. I think it must be that 8H has denser population along the north edge of it than do the other zones that are included in that hunt. Those towns may not want early hunting.
They may not have rich people hitting deer with there cars, my didn't care about deer eating farmers crops, ny is one of the worst states to the farmers they rather then be gone. My area 3m it's very common to see 40-50 deer in a field, I've over a 100 before. Are mix of farms and residential homes are a good breeding ground.

The rules on x-bow suck, the minimum with is not based on anything and it's clear they want to limit us, same for the draw, many are going over 200lb and rules out all recurve x-bows. I wanted to get the fast Excalibur x-bow when they said we could use them then the rules came out. I wanted a long lasting bow with little Maintenance, at the time most mid priced x-bows or down Had very short lives, the Barnett 's I've seen be junk in 10 shots.

the short season for them keeps me from buying one, I don't have much money and I'd rather buy a rifle. If we could get a month then I'd do more looking on what x-bows are good and try to save up.

for some reason, the guys that only bow hunt are weirdos, they Skack at rifle hunters or and better Technology. Hunters that hunt all seasons seem to understand better, the bow hunters that complain seem to often be the ones that can't have a firearm any longer.

I just can't figure it out. All of the WMUs surrounding Rochester are included, except 8H. Included in the hunt are 8A, 8G, and 8N but they can't be much more populated and wealthy than 8H.

Yeah I was confused too. 8H is crawling with the critters.

Nice, I like those argentine Mausers. Should work well as a 9.3.
Ya the round was designed for a standard mauser action. I've been looking for some time the right action. I wanted a 09 to go with the other my 7x57ai is made on. Kinda a poor man's Africa safari setup.

I was looking for a sporter that wasn't drilled a taped. To start fresh, this one just the stock was cut and chambered to 3006. Probably by Sears back in the day. I could find a stock and make it all original but want the action. I'll see how it shoots maybe I'll pop added with it, going to be some time before I've got the money to start the build.

I know most of y’all process your own dear. Still, I was curious about what the rates of deer processing car in your area? Where I hunt the processing rate seems to have gone up every single year and it’s $95-$100 at all the local processing places.

Where do you purchase your guns that you can do layaway? Most of the stores in my area don’t do that at all.

I have 4 that offer layaway Mcclains in Endicott NY, mayjoods in Norwich, vintage firearms in Endicott and montrose sporting goods in montrose PA. There is another that used to offer financing but not sure if he still does, pigeon hill guns in Port crane ny.

Most small gun shops here will do layaway, a good one Will just put the gun in the back for you. I've got the money to pick it up, I'm just so tired after two days splitting firewood. I'll have to wait to Tuesday, shop maybe open tomorrow I can't remember.

I've talked to a guy with a very nice fn mauser 3006 I've been looking for one to do a 280ai build, this one is so nice I don't think I could pull the barrel off lol. He said I could get it for $400 I told him it will take some time to save up but he said it's not going anywhere, think he is in Virginia. So add shipping and $25.

We have a bunch of pawn shops in this area and they all do lay-away.
I've bought so many I don't need anymore.
When I find the right piece of property back there in Chenango County I will liquidate a bunch of them to pay for the property.

When I posted on Danielxs post spell check switched it to Bush's Guns.

It is Bud's Guns.
Layaway with free shipping. They use to have a good selection of new & used guns.

It's been a few years since I bought anything from them so things may have changed since then.

Gun shops here hate buds for some reason, most won't let you do a transfer with them. I think there bitter at them because so many people were buying guns a few years back from buds and not the shops. Are layaway around here are free, I could see a shop adding a few bucks but think most are glad just to have a sale even if it takes some time. I've seen 45-90 days, the last two I put on were 45 day but paid off the next week.
