Please call now!!!

The nys assembly is debating the bill now and are taking calls.

One staffer told me that they are taking the number of calls and updating their assemblymen on the floor real time.

Your calls are critical now.

Thanks!

This probably will be passed and signed by Cuomo. Next step is to get an injunction ASAP. Several parts of this law will not hold up in court.

Are they taking emails as well as calls and updating the legislators on those numbers?

Has it been pointed out that banning without grandfathering is confiscation since it is denial of property to existing owners.

Ex Post Facto laws are against the NYS constitution. This would easily crumble under state court scrutiny. I will happily be the guinea pig. I maintain a NYS driver's license and my folks live there. I will load up all my 10 round mags and stick them on the dash and get pulled for speeding and see what happens. I'll be soliciting for defense funds shortly thereafter.

Really? Or just for internet-funny?

I am just wondering what will happen when the New York government starts trying to confiscate all the magazines that they believe are being illegally possessed. I personally fear there will potentially be bloodshed and violence. Some say any violence committed by people defending their property will be fuel for even more gun confiscations, although I myself, don't necessarily agree. I think the people who are now considered criminals are probably respectable people in their communities and their imprisonment or murder would not be looked on favorably.

All I know is, in theory, if I was a New Yorker and the government was knocking on my door and demanding I turn in all my magazines or risk imprisonment, I don't think I would comply.

All I can say is I am in shock and fear that this legislation can infect other states.

New Yorkers need to become very vigilant and organize themselves to fight these Unconstitutional laws.

This is a horrible blow to the constitutional rights to the citizens of New York. I hope this can be overturned by the SCOTUS.

They now record anyone that buys ammo ..... I would say the show is over for gun owners

I like the section that allows the use of an assault weapon on a firing range if it has been rendered permanenty inoperable! Even if I favored that bill, I would have to say the idiot that wrote that should never be allowed to sit in any legislature.

Jim

The bill was printed at 11pm and voted on at 11:30pm. I am sure many didn't even read it and of course no hearings
were allowed. Totally unheard off.
Overnight they made criminals of honest citizens, security personnel, firefighters, law enforcement and other public servants.
Cuomo is not thinking about what is best for New York and is looking for the high fives from Obama at the state
of the union address. Cuomo 2016, God save us all !!

This is about needs. It's about rights. The burden is on the government to demonstrate why they "need" to curtail our rights. They've have failed to provide any evidence that banning these weapons would make us safer, thus they have failed to establish a need.
As far as Morgan and his side are concerned they did address it. When he rattled off the litany of mass shootings perpetrated with an AR-15, as far they are concerned, that alone establishes the need. Having asserted that the AR-15 is the mass murderer's weapon of choice, and further asserting that they can envision no self-defense scenario where an honest citizen would need that kind of firepower provides them all the justification they think they need. Never mind that you and I CAN envision scenarios where an honest citizen would need that much firepower, they can't, and no one has articulated such a case to them. (The argument that citizens might need such weapons against a government grown tyrannical one day was met, as you saw, with contempt and derision.) So Morgan and his ilk can sit back and smugly claim to support the 2nd amendment and the right of self-defense, while simultaneously claiming the ban of high capacity magazines and semi-automatic firearms as "reasonable" restrictions that don't infringe a person's right to self-defense or his ability to exercise it.

We need to better articulate why they are dead wrong on both counts. We're in a war of ideas. Victory will go to the more persuasive and articulate side.

Victory goes to the sensationalist media and those who fuel that media with the fears of a brainless population. All politicians do is to see the opportunity and exploit those fears to further their radical agendas.
Tomorrow you will see Obama surrounded by little children to give his message.

It is history repeating itself over and over again. Edward Murrow warned about these dangers and they are here.

I thought NY state senator Greg Ball spoke rather effectively on the matter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2rRSUEaLKvA

He was quite right; you have people out there with dangerous mental health issues, and people who have children they fear are ticking time bombs and need help with them, not getting it, and the NY state legislature has done nothing to address that problem. Instead they chose to do the easy thing: to grandstand about gun control and pat themselves on the back that they've done something to prevent violence. They haven't, of course. The bill was rushed through in the middle of the night, it got no public discussion at all, and was passed by state senators who had not even read it. It transparently is not a well-thought out, carefully considered, legitimate effort to make the people of NY state safer. It is, as Sen. Ball observed, a naked attempt on the part of a 2016 Democratic presidential contender to take a big, strategic highly visible national lead on the "progressive" cause du jour.

A modest proposal

I would suggest that 2nd Amendment supporting Dem's on this board, especially if you are from Iowa and New Hampshire, point out to Mr. Cuomo through emails, faxes, and phone calls, that signing this midnight bill to take away your rights will seriously affect his presidential chances in 2016.

Thank you guys! you are the best.
We are also in the lookout for your states and for Obama's circus performance that is about to start.

Cuomo and his buddies forced a 'legalized' illegal law and sold us out.

The Cosa Nostra would be a lot better because they would be up front so you would know what to expect when something was going to be enforced upon you.

Cuomo as president would be another total failure just like the current one.
I hope the GOP put their **** together by then.

I think even less than 7 because he might have banned all the ammunition and manufactures will no longer want to do business with Newyorkistan so his full time security detail will be out of ammo soon. Or those might be able to order online while he pretends he is not looking.

Welcome to the new world order. Cuomo for Fuhrer in 2016. wow!

Question about the National Socailist Republic of NY state gun ban.

They are requiring NICS checks for ammunition purchases (as I understand). My understanding of NICS is that it is a Federal system (I work part time at a Big box gun counter) designed only for the checking of backgrounds on the purchase of Hand gun or Long gun. Wouldn't there have to be Federal legislation to authorize access for background checks for ammo purchases? My understanding of the Federal statute is that to use the NICS system for any other reason is illegal.
