Hey all been around the forum for Looong time finally registered...

Latest build is an Aero Precision 308 in battle rifle config.

-Aero Precision M5E1 complete upper, Aero/BA 16" CMV barrel (mid length), 15" Mlok handguard.
-Aero Nickle Boron BCG
-Aero 308 Ambi Charging Handle
-Magpul MOE pistol grip
-Fab Defense Butt Stock
-Elftman AR10 Adjustable Trigger
-Aero Precison Ultra Light 30mm scope mount
-Trijicon Credo HX264 1x6 LPVO W/308 Caliber BDC reticle, single 2MOA illuminated red dot and etched BDC reticle.
-Slate Black Industries Thumb stop
-Bravo Company Mlok grip panels (swapped for SBI ones to drop 1.5oz)
-CGS Hyperion K Ti Suppressor (in jail still)
-Odin Works Extended Mag Release

Plan to Add:
-Weapon Light (Looking for main advice here, also anywhere is welcomed)
-Sling
-Larue Picatiny rail covers. Aero Pic rail sharp as hell and they have several cable management also.

Bare rifle weighs 7lb 9oz, 9lb 6oz with LPVO/Mount, thumb stop and BC rail grips installed. Once Suppressor is installed will be at 10lbs 2oz. Then just need a weapon light which is MY MAIN QUESTION HERE, which is lightest option? I could swap out the Aero barrel/Ballistic Advantage weighing 36oz and gain several OZ with a Faxon or something. Also the BCG weighs 19oz and there are lighter options but durability is factor along with weight. So if there is a lightweight yet durable BCG option I'm open to suggestions. Parts always

Have a 5.56 10.3 SBR with Red dot suppressed for ultra CQB or give to the wife. The 308 is my go to main girl :) Love me some 150 grain impact!

Another question: And forgive my ignorance: Does a Radian safety fit an Aero M5 Lower? Looking at them or the Elftman speed type push safety. I have short yet stocku hands and a push button that moves with a flick seems very appealing. But Radian gets TONS of love.

Can upload pics once I learn how...

See the "upload a file" button directly next to the post reply button?

Click that if the picture file is on the same device you are posting with. Find your desired pic and select it. It will be uploaded to THR and you can then insert the Full Image into the text box.

You can also add pics from a third party hosting site by copying the URL and inserting it via a button in the tools menu above the text reply box. The button looks like a pair of mountains with a sun/moon above em.

Done, thanks! Here she is.

You attached them perfectly. Now where you see them appear below your text box, you can insert the full image into the reply like i did, if you want. Just place the cursor in the text where you want the pic then scroll down to the pic and click insert full image. That will place the pic in with the text.

Good looking 308!

Good looking 308!

Awesome thanks for the help! I seen a black base rifle with FDE and Mil green done with dryer bag. I may be doing that.

Enforce lights are fairly light and a complete unit.

10lbs isn't terrible for what you've put together.

I am hoping to be in the market for a 308 semi here soon.

Aero Always has 15% off sales often, plus I was able to stack 10% first time customer on it. I was at 1,004.59 total for my complete M5 minus a butt stock. NB bcg too.

Yea I have the pistol version on my full size Springfield XDM 9mm, great light! I used to have the rifle version on my Daniel Defense 5.56. But I think I want to go pressure switch with light on right 9 o'clock posittion.

My first AR15 was a black rifle, stainless barrel, and realtree camo furniture. The two tone looks good imho.

What do you mean by dryer bag? That mesh with like 1/8" holes?

Considering the build style throw/candela whilst staying lightweight is the goal.

Cloud Defensive Reign 2.0, Modlite OKW, Surefire scout, the candela beasts.

Does anyone know if there is a mounting option on any lights direct to Mlock rail? I see Cloud Defensive has a built on mount ut its only for picatinny. Wanting to stay lightweight ESPECIALLY out at end of barrel I dont want to add extra weight. But I suppose a 1.5" pic section would be near nothing in weight, there prob is polymer options too.

Welcome to THR! I, too, lurked for quite a while before I finally caved and made an account. Lots of intelligent and experienced folks here. I couldn't pass up all that free knowledge.

If you're looking for advice on a sling, I can highly recommend a simple Garand web sling. Versatile, but simple. Inexpensive, yet durable. It's everything I need and nothing that I don't. Every sling I tried prior was too bouncy (rubber), too slippery (nylon), too expensive (quality leather), or too wide (cobra style).

I use it on my 8 pound hunting rifle and I can carry it all day comfortably. The sling weighs very little, as well. It's not quite as light as nylon webbing with plastic buckles, but it's close enough.

It can be used as a carry strap, or a shooting aid by utilizing it as a hasty sling or the more involved loop sling.

A big gripe I had with other slings is that they would work themselves loose over the course of the day. I like to keep my rifle high and tight when hunting, which requires the sling to be pretty taught across the body. The Garand sling never gave me an issue. Truly the perfect sling for my uses.

I got mine from AmmoGarand. American made to military specifications. They supposedly even get their hardware from the original WWII manufacturer. Cost me $22, plus tax on Amazon.

Requires 1.25" swivels, though. I'd recommend GrovTec swivels. Again, American made and high quality. All steel, unlike Uncle Mike's which utilize a plastic knob. I believe that they also make 1.25" QD swivel mounts, if you want to go that route. Cost me something like $12 on Amazon. It's worth the extra couple of bucks over the Chinese manufactured Uncle Mike's.

I'm not sure if a 30 minute video of an old dude rambling on about slings would interest you, but this guy goes pretty in depth on the web sling.

End goal is a 308/7.62x51 Battle rifle setup! SHTF ready, durable yet not a 14lb AR10 chunky bitch!

I have quite a few of their pushbuttons and really like them.

Happy 4th to anyone reading this!

Been researching weapon lights for this build and I think Its most likely going to be the cloud defensive Reign 2.0. IMO its the best blend of performance (1100 Lumens, 71,000 Candela), features (momentary & constant switch as well as switch on end cap if cable fails), cost of 379 usd which includes light, head, end cap, remote switch, one battery and charger. Comparing to Modlite or Arisaka which basically is a modlite, The Reign is cheaper when all stuff needed is added up. Its just a warmer light which actually is supposedly scientifically proven to cut through light pollution better. Also the Reign cable enters the side of the endcap (normal rear click button operational) and I like that better than the old school surefire rear entry.

I admite the Modlite okw laser beam of a light is appealing but...

Also going to go with the Elftman speed push saftey. Give it a try...

I was thinking today...You know there are so many videos and stuff on CQB training. I'd like to see some intermediate distance or/to long range training taking out targets in timely manner.

You might wish to contact Darrel Holland , He has moved operations into Montana and is a Stand Up Guy . I DON'T endorse places parts people unless I've purchased them used them or know them . A fellow Aircraft Engineer a Long time close friend did R&D on some of Darrel's accessories and that's how I was introduced to him .
