Friday afternoon I got to welcome my future shooting, hunting, and reloading partner into the world. At 21.5in long weighing 52,500 grains (7lbs 8oz) here is Connor:

IF (and that is a very big if because of being off work for 6weeks to stay home and help) I can get approval from the wifey, I've been debating on if I would rather purchase something for me (like a new 12ga) to commemorate his birth (that would most likely get passed to him later in life) or buy something for him (like a .22 bolt action) and aside from test firing just keep it as his until he can shoot it (hopefully in 4-5years). Any other shooting dads care to weigh in with their thoughts?

Congrats! Now never tell your wife there is a picture of her post labor on the internet, I know that would be my signature on a death warrant.

Absolutely beautiful! (Both mom and son.) And notice that steely-eyed marksman look in the second picture. Better go for that little 22 bolt action so he can start honing his skills as soon as possible.

Jeff

PS: A 12 or 20 gauge commemorating the event is still a possibility.

congrats. Rock that camo!

keep it gun related.....what will be the commemorative firearm?

First time dad? Nervous? I was. It's all good though, you'll get the hang of it. :)

Start an IRA for him. ;)

Boring, but smart.

Second boy for me, first for this wife. We just got custody of my 4 yr old boy about a month ago too so it's a busy house for sure.

Congrats!

I can hear it in about five years... "Don't mess with them Centurian22 brothers!"

Mine were about that far apart, and I was that far apart from my own brother, so I know.

Terry

As for the firearm(s) the savage mkII FV comes to mind but that's because it's what I want. I feel like a 'family heirloom' gun should be wood not plastic though. My other issue is I don't feel right buying a gun for the new born when I didn't / haven't done the same for my 4yr old boy (Aiden). Reason for that was the ex was anti so it wouldn't have been well received. I also have 2 .22's one from each of my late grandfathers. A marlin 989 semi and a sears single shot bolt. I can see letting my boys shoot them, and eventually (very far down the road) passing them down to the boys; but I can't see letting them learn on these two that are so important to me. The thought of a bump on the bench much less an accidental drop in the gravel makes me cringe just thinking about it. For something a little more suited to their size I'm thinking the savage rascal but I'd like the rifle to be of use to the boys as they grow. Any ideas?

Dude...congrats! Love that kid like there is no tomorrow. I'm happy for you all and I wish you the best as you start the most difficult and rewarding journey that life has to offer.

Peace.

Put a bit of money down on about 10-20 acres of land WAY outside of town ... twenty years from now, those boys'll have LAND. Land outside the urban sprawl to hunt on, build first houses on, raise your grandkids on.

I suspect in 2033, that'll be quite a thing.

And Congrats.

This is wife 2.0, the first version was defective in several ways including being anti-gun and a malfunction in loyalty programming. So I returned it to the parental factory and upgraded to a newer better model.

Welcome to the world (and THR) little Connor!

I too recommend the .22 rifle for the little ones. A Savage Rascal, MK II G, or maybe a Henry lever would be great. Savage did just come out with the .22 over and .410 under.

Congrats on both of your boys!

Thanks for all the kind words. Looks like I'll be waiting a little while before making any major purchases :-( oh well. I appreciate the input about the .22. Just had to pass up an offer / availability of a new xd9 4" full package for $499. Oh well.
