Using an exotic ultra-mini-handgun for home defense, where concealment is pointless, strikes me as a horrible idea. These firearms are tricky to shoot in the best of circumstances. Furthermore you don't reduce overpenetration by getting a smaller sidearm--you simply use proper bullets at sufficient velocity. If you want to limit your overpenetration a better route would be to get an AR or other .223 platform with high velocity expanding rounds.

No firearm suitable for defense is safe to fire indoors. That's the whole point! You're not going to be using it for indoor target practice, you're going to be shooting some home invader in the chest with it. You don't want him to shoot back. Taking this action ALWAYS involves some risk, and is NEVER EVER SAFE. The best you can hope for is to limit the danger to the bad guy as much as possible, but there's no guarantee. You're firing lethal bullets inside your house. Absent a shooting range that's never going to be "safe." Which is why you only do it in the gravest extreme.

Yes, virtually everyone does share that opinion. I've never heard your selections offered as viable home defense choices.

I think technically the Kolibri was first designed for self defense use inside of a car, so that you could safely fire it and not risk damage to your windows and dashboard. But I have never heard anyone say you could not use it for home defense (other than you that is).

Besides all these guns are now banned for import to the US due to them being extra deadly and having no sporting purpose. This makes them expensive but not unobtainable. I don't think the government would ban them if they were no more powerful than say a Red Ryder BB gun.

The 2.7mm Kolibri? The reason you won't find threads about such a weapon's merits for home defense is because the idea is absurd. I suppose you *could* use it, but have you seen the ft. lbs. generated? You'd be better off with strong language or a rough towel.

You really want to base your choice on what the big brains in Congress and the BATF have come up with? The folks who brought us the AWB? You need to abandon this entire idea.

What about these guys? They claim to be quite knowledgeable and have lots of gun related information on their website.

270 MPH seems really fast for that gun. If you were hit by a car traveling that speed it would kill you for sure.

Paper cuts hurt. I've got a 3 ring binder in the nightstand in case someone breaks in. It's registered as a HiCap mag per my local ordinances.

    Is this for real?
get a .38 revolver like an old S&W model 10 or something but get a real gun from a real gun maker. you can get all sorta loads for .38 that a child could shoot like low velocity or wad cutters or something but dont trust your life on junk guns.

Sure it is. But you probably made up Gun Barrel City, Texas A place with a name that cool would not really exist. It would not be allowed.

They're a notorious anti-gun front. There are no "gun guys" on that site.

I would just stick with your glock.

I think the Kolibri is the ticket, just get one for each hand.
From what I read they have 3 ft lbs of energy and can be had for around $5,000 ea since they are collectors items now.

It is not the initial cost of the weapon that worries me it is the $70+/ round price for ammo that would make training expensive.

my airsoft guns produce more joules than that pistol and they shoot full auto why not just get that.

seriously though this seems like a joke thread like the guy who welded his gears together for better traction, i doubt there is anyone dumb enough to really consider one of those guns for hd. just get a .380 or something similar.

I'm a fan of 9mm "mouse" guns...but you'll have to be very picky about SD ammo, since the lightweight and short barrel of these makes recoil pretty intense. I usually go for 115gr Remington UMC JHP (standard pressure) for HD with my 9mm mouse. Recoil is light enough to double-tap easily. On the other hand, 115gr std pressure blazer FMJ (my range ammo, I use it to learn recoil tolerance) recoils like a freaking beast, leaving bruises on my hand and making a double-tap impossible.

Voted for the Lilliput Mentz, you can't argue with the raw knock down power it provides. I just don't think the higher capacity of the "Wonder Kolibris" makes up for their smaller bullet. Sure if you shot an intruder with the Kolibri 60-70 times they might die, but with the Mentz that "shots to stop" number dives to around 40.... In a self defense situation, advantages like that can make all the difference.

    ~ $.02

Gtscotty covered it very well, he sounds like a guy that knows his stuff.

    But I voted other.
I'd recommend a pointy stick, it also can "perforate the skin" and "is potentially lethal"

Besides, it is in my price range.

I have heard that these weapons do not provide such violent recoil.

Well, see here is the thing.

ALL OF THESE WEAPONS ARE BANNED FOR IMPORT INTO THE USA.

Forget self defense, all of them would be hard pressed to drop a rat. Yet we have allowed our government to dictate to us without out a bit of common sense what we can and can not have in our pockets. The ATF went so far as to issue a warning about a gun which provides less ft/pounds than a squirt gun. The anti media supports this with purported gun experts and even less analysis. We ignore them because they are ignorant, but all they do is breed more ignorance.

I say continue the good fight, and not let them get away with hand feeding ignorance.

I hope you are kidding. If not I must say, you would be better off using a metal pipe or a sword than a ultra-tiny caliber gun for self-defense. Those little guns are really just for kicks. They will only piss someone off. If you are that worried about penetration buy some glaser safety slugs.
