is correct, I opine that the good governor is at best a statist and dare I say a totalitarian? I am sure he is not alone....

When one in a position of power fully understands that they are infringing on civil rights, and willfully continues on planning the comission of this act, does that not mean that this person is wilfuly and wontonly abandoning the constitution and violating federal law?

The the second 'suggestion' in the constitution will be totally ignored soon too. In fact, in my opinion, during the east coast 'sniper' shootings it was!

How many more stupid laws and illegal actions are we willing to allow from our elected officials under the thin disguise of 'protecting us from terrorists'. Indeed we are allowing our government to do exactly what it is that the terorists had hoped for... and more!

The saudi/persian/arab/muslim/terrorists HATE all we stand for, they HATE our religious freedoms, they HATE our freedom of speech, and they HATE our freedom to choose our own form of government. They would replace ALL of what our grandfatehrs fought for and WON in WW2 (rememebr the totalitarians named tojo and hitler who wanted the same thing) with a muslim-based theocracy if possible. In order to do that they have to break down a social structure that insures the rejection of any totalitarian theocracy. They are getting their way because the bliss-ninnies in this country are AFRAID, and the real tests and REAL terror has not yet even begun on a wide scale YET.

While I doubt the muslims would achieve their own zealous goals, what is instead being achieved is a totalitarian state... dare I say a police state. Though it will not turn out their way in the end, they ARE getting what they want. The destruction of the United States society as we know it.

I'll close my diatribe with a quote from Lincoln. As true today, even moreso than it was when he said it.

It is a big country. After 9/11 many businesses moved out of NY. The internet has allowd a dispersal effect. After these "infringements" many more will leave (as well as people) New York and New Jersey (Place your People Republik Of " " here). Then the McGreevey's of the world will have no power. Until then, grab the popcorn and enjoy the show. People get what they ask for. People can also take back the power.

I'm guessing it is true. I had to travel a few times through to JFK airport, and I'd noticed that there's an elevated police presence. The AM stations covering the NJ Turnpike are chock full of the same message (you 'may' be searched) and the electronic boards are filled with either 'Expect Delays to NYC/Vehicles May Be Searched' messages or 'Report Suspicious Activity/Call 1 888 4NJ SAFE"

Also, you've got to remember two things. This is James McGreevey, who never met a constitutional principal he believed in, and NJ, who's courts never met a law they didn't rewrite.

A Californian (who desperately would like to leave this hellhole) STARTED this thread. I daresay that should THIS and many other residents of similar mindset be able to find a worthwhile job and escape this drek filled state that you would be proud of the new neighbor.... Mental polution certainly is a risk, but please do not paint us all with the same brush. I rather suspect that I am more libertarian minded and constitution oriented than MOST of the folks you will find in many of the states you wish to protect from 'us'.

PS: To the poster about Lincoln, I do indded agree with you. While I am glad the states did stay together, I do not approve of his ways. In fact, the proof of HIS OWN WORDS are in his actions. That is to say, HE was the threat to personal rights, not a foreign government. My quotes from others are not to cannonize the man that made them but to acknowledge the truth of the rhetoric itself.

Patriot Act II Resurrected?

Congress may consider a bill that not only expands the government's wiretapping and investigative powers but also would link low-level drug dealing to terrorism and ban a traditional form of Middle Eastern banking.

The draft legislation -- titled the Vital Interdiction of Criminal Terrorist Organizations Act of 2003, or Victory Act -- includes significant portions of the so-called Patriot Act II, which faced broad opposition from conservatives and liberals alike and embarrassed the Justice Department when it was leaked to the press in February.

The Victory Act also seems to be an attempt to merge the war on terrorism and the war on drugs into a single campaign. It includes a raft of provisions increasing the government's ability to investigate, wiretap, prosecute and incarcerate money launderers, fugitives, "narco-terrorists" and nonviolent drug dealers. The bill also outlaws hawalas, the informal and documentless money transferring systems widely used in the Middle East, India and parts of Asia.

A June 27 draft of the bill, authored by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and co-sponsored by four fellow Republicans on the Judiciary Committee, has been circulating in Washington, D.C.
