peter, they are talking about the comparatively small disturbance lines moving laterally away from the ****, not the huge disturbed surface area.
Now look at the right side of the pic, see those random waves that "just developed" coming out from the ship? Those are very obviously made by displacement.
Short: Yes the ship does move, the distance is more than you would expect for such a heavy bathtub, and that's why they dont often release the entire battery at once.
But when they do all let loose, man that thing rolls.
