NICS Delays due to recent events?

Went to my LGS to pick up a new gun that I had won off of gunbroker. Turns out I get delayed (even w/ a UPIN and concealed carry). You've got to be kidding me. I picked up a rifle 2 weeks ago without a hiccup.

The clerk tells me that the NICS reviewer said that "there is something wrong with their system". What gives? Did anyone else get delayed today on a firearms purchase? Does the Boston bombing have anything to do with it? I thought my days of delay would be over after getting my UPIN. Turns out they're not.

Another reason to oppose Universal NICS. I've never liked that it has times when it goes down. And I don't trust the government to not turn it off during some disaster.

dude since sandy hook NICS has been delayed 7 days at every shop and private FFL dealer within a 100 mile radius of me.

It's funny because I have a concealed carry permit but since it was issued in July 2009 that doesn't work for me. The permit has to be issued on or after July 2010. So, that's when I decided to get my UPIN (4 month wait) and it worked the first time I used it 2 weeks ago. I just don't understand. Looks like I'll be doing private sales only for a while.

The FBI says that you can have your VAF (application for UPIN) "destroyed" at your request, but I highly doubt they would destroy that kind of information.

I picked up my new revolver yesterday and nics at first went for further review and then they let it go. This is the first time such a thing has happened to me.

If you are in New Jersey those dealers aren't calling the FBI NICS but a state "point of contact".

Do they have different systems/protocols for each state? I just don't get why their system isn't working all of a sudden (must be switching from PC to MAC). It just baffles me. Looks like getting that UPIN was a waste of time. Guess I'll have to wait to see what happens when I renew my CCW this year. I already feel like I will get delays after the issuance of my new license.

Most states (including yours) contact the FBI NICS for all checks. Some states use their state police or other state agency as a "point of contact" to perform the required background check.

Have you ever run a NICS check and had the FBI tell you that their system isn't working? Just curious.

Didn't have anything to do with Boston bombing, I picked up a gun on Tueday at a shop north of Boston.

Worst problem here in CT is getting through one of the telephone lines to the "DPS" when bloody well near every other gun shop in the state is trying to do the same thing.

I did see something new at the LGS, they had workstations to do electronic 4473's. I know it has been around for a while, just never saw/ did one before.
