On Monday, January 7, the New Jersey legislature passed three bills of concern to law-abiding gun owners in New Jersey. Unfortunately, as usual, these bills do nothing to impact criminals, impact public safety, or assist police in fighting crime but only harass legal firearm owners. These bills will now head to Governor Jon Corzine (D) for his consideration.

Thanks to the activism of NRA members, these bills were amended from the original drafts, which would have placed onerous regulations on the purchase of all ammunition and held legal firearm owners criminally liable for having their firearms stolen.

As originally introduced, S2470/A2602 would criminalize the transfer of handgun ammunition to anyone who does not have valid New Jersey firearms ID card, handgun carry or purchase permit. While intended to prevent criminals from obtaining ammunition, the legislation would only impact honest gun owners, since criminals are unlikely to obtain ammunition through legal channels. The legislation was amended to exempt shotgun shells, the majority of long-gun ammunition and non-fixed ammunition for muskets and muzzleloaders. The bill will also allow New Jersey residents and out-of-state firearm owners to purchase ammunition at the range for competition or target practice.

S2934/A4620 as originally drafted, would have held honest gun owners criminally and civilly liable if their lost or stolen firearm was used in a crime. Even though the bills were amended to provide the legal owner 36 hours upon discovery to report the lost or stolen firearm, NRA still opposes this legislation, as it holds honest gun-owners financially responsible for being victims of theft.

S2431 is an overly broad attempt to address gang violence that could have unintended consequences for honest gun owners. Among other things, it would criminalize and severely punish the mere possession of certain firearms, including registered handguns, even while engaged in lawful activities. As originally drafted, the bill puts law-abiding gun owners at risk of a potential 10-year prison sentence and a $150,000 fine.

Please contact the Governor's office today and respectfully urge him to veto these bills and concentrate on taking criminals off the street, not restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners. While your cynicism is funny, hilarious even, unfortunately the attitude of many here is that there is nothing that can be done to change things. As long as that attitude persists so will this anti-gun regime. Just trying to do my part.

If anything, I hope our lack of freedom helps you to understand how things can get out of hand when people remain inactive in defending what's right.

I admire your spunk.Being born in NJ and still having family ties there, I realize how difficult it must be to see your rights eroding year by year under regime's like Comrade Corzine's.
You are doing the right thing by trying to fight back and restore your gun rights.Not everyone can just pick up and move to more friendly territory.And that just abandons the State that much more to the Socialists.

I wasn't being cynical at all, nor trying to be funny. Face the facts. It's not just gun control Corzine and his globalist cohorts are after. Neither is it only a NJ matter. Give the Mayor of Newark a few more years, and he'll add more misery to your lives. Cory Booker a, ahem, Rhodes Scholar, is an interesting case. Intelligent he is - Half preacher, half politician, Cory Booker is a prime example of the political disingenuousness strutting on the stage called, "the Presidential elections". What utter horse****.

When the MS 13 thugs murdered those innocent college kids, he was ranting and waving his arms, spouting his "Never Again" signifying-nothing-bull****. He will do absolutely nothing to rein in the lawless punks in Newark. But he, too, will try and take your guns. And believe it, he will go on to higher office in NJ, because he is being groomed to carry out the globalist's plans, which do not include an armed populace.

In case anyone hasn't picked up a newspaper in the last 20 years, the battle with the Socialists isn't limited to NJ, nor is it limited to the USA - we are in a fight for freedom throughout the world. I want to be in a place where I can at least carry my gun, thank you very much.

I didn't move to Colorado to run from battle, but to find a place I could make a stand, in anticipation of the ensuing chaos about to be unleashed.

Sadly, New Jersey is absolutely finished. The union heads are also the heads of the Democrat Party there. They have worked VERY CLOSELY with the state legislature to engulf the state in an environment of total dependency. All of these state dependents vote Democrat no matter what. They make up about 8% of the eligible voters of the state. Count in their spouses and you have 16%. Although most elections are like a 25% voter turnout lets say that there's a hefty 50% voter turnout. Then, this 16% automatic Democrat votes becomes 32%. Any good candidate must overcome this 32% handicap right off the bat. Everyone knows it so no one gives them any money.
When I ran for public office in New Jersey not even my gun buddies would come to my events - shame on you. The sad thing is that with a month to go I was 50/50 with my opponent (who was a nice guy, but a total puppet to the regime). Then, public employees removed my signs and union thugs replaced them with 20,000 oposition signs. Then, I moved to the United States.
You can try all you want, but you will accomplish nothing. The poster above was correct - move somewhere where you can defend your position. New Jersey is lost and no one cares. I left right before our gay governor paid his boyfriend to be the head of homeland security for the state. He had zero experience and terror is very likely to come to the US through the ports in New Jersey. This is very indicative of what goes on. I could continue, but it's all very old and boring; not to mention highly disturbing.
But, those who live there enable this so they get exactly what they ask for. It's, scarily, a demonstration of history repeating itself which stands to reason with the ethnic background of many inhabitants. Genes are a terrible thing.
