So, I got my buddy to the airport......2 minutes too late to check his bag; I didn't know there was a 30 minutes-prior-to-takeoff limit to check baggage.

No big deal; he had plenty of time, he'd just have to carry his bag on. In his bag was a toy pump-action shotgun and 4000 rounds of caps for it that I was sending home with him to his son.

So of course, after the X-ray machine, he had to get his bag picked through. They let him take the toy shotgun, but not the caps!

I am kinda surprised the toy shotgun got through, but not at all surprised about the caps. They ARE explosives. Just really, really weak ones.

So, my buddy calls me today. When he was here in Boise, with the caps and they told him he couldn't take them, it was no big deal. They did ask him why he didn't get there early enough to check his bag (they did tell him that if the bag had been checked, the caps would not have been a problem), and he explained that we were only 2 minutes past the cutoff but the ticketing agent wouldn't check the bag for fear that it wouldn't make it onto the plane. When he handed it to the Delta gal on the jetway, she handed him a claim stub & told him it would be checked through to OK City.

So he gets in to Salt Lake City, and 3 gentlemen are awaiting his arrival; 2 are airport police, and the other, we assume, was a TSA agent. They take him into a room and question him all over again, about the caps, WHICH HE NO LONGER HAS BECAUSE SECURITY KEPT THEM IN BOISE !!!!!!!! These 3 fine gentlemen confirmed that if the caps had been in checked baggage, they would not have been a problem.

He points out to them that his flight was a Delta Connection, and it clearly states on his ticket that he has up until 15 minutes before the flight to check his bag, but the agent wouldn't do it.

Anyways, they cause him to miss his flight, he has to sit around for over 2 hours, and when he gets into OK City, HIS FRICKIN' BAG IS IN ONTARIO HELLIFORNIA!!!!! This is 2 consecutive flights on Delta from OK City to Boise & back, that his bag has made it to Boise, but not back to OK City. For the record, I fly Delta all the time, and I've never had a problem with luggage, flight times, etc.

Thanks for reinforcing my decision to leave a gun (secured) in CO rather then take it and fly thru Chicago.
I am also surprised they let him take a (toy) weapon on the plane as carryon.

Heck, I got pinched with two 10rnd P-11 mags (empty) in my carryon bag in Pheonix. They made me go outside and mail them back to my home or leave them with them. They said "No gun parts on the plane".

Yes, they DO look funny at you when something like this happens. But, the funniest thing is I went through the "Security" at the Pittsburgh Airport with both mags LOADED! Nobody noticed or said a word. Only found them when I got out to AZ. I hate flying....
