But how do you guys chew though thousands of rounds of .223 and always looking for more? Is it just fun shooting or competition? Serious question.
Its both. Quite frankly there is no better way to spend a day than spending time behind ones sights/scope firing ones AR. Most of my firing these days are of the bench rest kind. One thing we all have in common thouh is that sinking feeling when we realize that we just loaded the last mag of the day and wonder why we didn't bring more ammo with us. Next time, we tell ourselves, next time.

I don't exactly qualify as I am talking 7.62x39 but the same principle applies. I shoot a lot but only in spurts. I take only the ammo to the range that I want to shoot that day, usually 3-4 hundred rounds - no more.

And, I have a minimum cache of 250 that I keep in storage. (currently much higher) I have not really had serious problems buying ammo during the current drought. Advantaged of a little country gun store I guess.

I shoot as much as I do (not much compared to most others) to always test the accuracy and reliability of my AK. After all, that is what sets it apart from most other guns.

I recall an evening on the mountain when I stayed behind alone to check zero and function of a rifle I intended to shoot in .22 silhouette at the local gun club. After firing my last rounds and sitting by the campfire as it died it died out and the dusk deepened, I recalled the stories my cousin and one of his friends told me earlier in the daylight: one about neighboring farmer Kelly Paul losing a calf to coyotes, and the friend's tale of finding a road kill deer that, when he returned a few hours later, had been savaged by coyotes. Then I realized I had fired all my ammo and was alone as night was falling. That was a sinking feeling. I extinguished the campfire and left. Since then I make a point of never shooting up all my ammo on the mountain.

Me, my son, his fiance, my other son, his fiance, my daughter, her husband, and my grandaughter.

That's 8 AR-15's. Even at 3 thirty round mags each (that's not many for a day at the range) thats 720 rounds 2 or 3 times every month.

Add in the 22's and pistols. Thousands of rounds isn't even a start. You need to move your decimal place over a few notches.

Q) How do we chew through so much ammo?

A) A beta mag or a few and a slidefire stock!

My shooting is fun shooting.
Expensive yes but worth it.
Best way to blow 30-40 bucks in 8 seconds!
