No guns in airports

*sigh*

I carry into an airport every week... the closest bank to me is in the lobby of an airport. I don't go through security so I'm legal.

For now.

What does he expect me to do... the parking lot is airport grounds, right?

I've never seen the need to carry my gun in an airport.. but then I don't really see the harm.. It's not like you would be able to carry the thing onto the plane..

I'm in favor of making Lautenberg the permanent special secretary to Haiti and forgetting to let him back in the country. I really thought we were finished with his nonsense, but New Jersey has other ideas.

Isn't my secure holster properly cased?

Works for me!

I have to pick up packages at the Denver airport once in a while, and I usually CCW in there. I'm only there for a few minutes though, to the baggage claim area and back out. But with all the LEO's running around, I'm not drawing my gun unless there's a damn battle going on and the good guys are losing! Last thing I want is dozens of citizens in an airport pointing at ME and shrieking "MAN WITH A GUN!!!!!"

Lautenberg’s measure, the Firearm-Free Airports Act, would make it illegal to carry a gun into non-federally regulated areas of an airport, including the airport lobby, baggage claim area and ticket counter.

What about non-federally regulated areas doesn't he understand?

“In the post-9/11 world, it simply defies common sense that it would be legal to carry a gun into an airport,” sayeth Lautenberg.

Guess my third-grade teacher was right: I have no common sense. In fact, it may be time for me to start shopping around for a new planet, where "common sense" types like Lautenberg don't exist.

In the post-9/11 world

If I NEVER hear this <...> phrase again, it'll be too soon.

It is the death knell for some corner of my liberty, and the sanctuary it proffers is false, simply trading one egomaniac for another even more tyrannical.

Indeed.

double ditto KR

last time I looked it was the same world/planet that we the people have lived on for the last few hundred million years, and our habits ain't changed much

and neither has what's right and wrong "to do"
beware of those doing it to you for your own good
(check my sig line)

I don't know about this particular bill, but I can see stuff like this easily passing.

On principal, I disagree with this bill, but practically... it would probably not be such a big deal, seeing as every airport I've been lately in has been crawling with LEOs, except....

Except for the trip to and from the airport, and except for legal transportation, as previously noted.

My local airport is not in the best part of town (imagine!), and I think this is fairly typical of most cities. It is really desirable to be armed, so as to be able to defend oneself if your car is approached while stuck in traffic in one of the bad areas on the way.

If it were legal to leave any weapon locked in a safe in the car in the parking lot, then this doesn't really pose much THAT much of a safety hazard, as most airports resemble fortresses these days, anyway.

Folks who pass these "common sense" laws don't seem to understand that it effectively outlaws concealed carry if you are going to do certain routine things in your daily life... but maybe they DO understand this... I don't know.

As it is, for several things I do, I have to park off site, lock it in the car and walk, and I'm in the "gun-friendly" south. I certainly don't want to walk in the neighborhood of my nearest airport.

Oh well, I expect this thread will degenerate to political bashing and be locked soon.

My one, "high road" point is that rules like these really do need to take into account how to get into and out of "gun-free" zones.

This is just as silly as any other "Gun Free Zone" :banghead:

There is nothing to prevent a crazy person/suicidal husband-boyfriend/terrorist/criminal ( take your pick ) from walking in with whatever weapon he/they desire and open up on everyone. Perhaps they will not survive being killed by the police but many just don't care and sometimes that is exactly what they want!!! :cuss:

Stupidity Stupidity Stupidity :fire:

I do not disagree with AD
but, it comes down to this... what is "airport"

soon after 911, I was inside the "glass cage" (more than once), and the only thing that bothered me was the every 30 seconds real loud "No Smoking" announcement
and I was real happy that they don't allow my gun on me inside the cage.. because I really don't want to become the next "road rage" news story

I was not one wit bothered by getting out of my vehicle in the hourly rate parking garage (short walk) outside the glass cage, whist a couple of NG guys w/MI6s looked around, in, and under my car.. struck me as "comforting and appropriate"

didn't bother me a bit, and would not have, if they had found and asked about my licensed/loaded carry handgun (removed from self and parked appropriately inside a proper place inside my vehicle upon entering entry road into)

did not bother me a bit, the NG guys with M16s inside the glass cage, but outside the gates.. struck me as "comforting and appropriate"

(and this was a Florida airport, infamous for why there was a reason for Florida to start putting "observers" at rest stops on roads leaving airports.. well before 'the world will never be the same post-911')

it is not about political persuasions, X, Y, or Z
it's not about religion persuasions, X, Y, or Z
it is not O vs. W

most all of the major "Airport Authorities", for a lot of years now, own all property within miles of the glass cage... coming and going,
and I am way too old to walk that far, and too damn fat to run away fast enough, and am not going to leave milady, even if I can still crawl fast

seen way too many of all flavors tell me what is good for my own good -
old and peevish, yet no matter what colors they fly, I am willing to go along to get along
(even if if means not trying to sneak a 357 mag inside the glass cage to the blast the **** out of that glass cage speaker system)

but me don't think this fool, flavor D or R or X or Z, is proposing that I should be protected from anything new or different, that I wasn't already 'protected from' long before 911

some may just have to do a political rant, maybe
but all of us, all flavors, can enjoy having just so many people saving us from ourselves, no matter what spin they are selling
that is how I see this one

"sparrow" - not everybody who digs you out from under a pile is your friend, no matter what stripes they wear

Soon, it will be illegal to have a gun in almost every public transportation center, bus stations, train stations, taxis. Sarah Palin is correct, if Obama had his way, he would ban all guns and ammunition, outright. When will people ever listen??? Its our constitutional right to carry a firearm and we are of no threat to the public. The only people now who will not be carrying their guns in the airport are law abiding citizens. I say its time to revolt and stop succumbing to the aristocratic/bureaucratic powermongering of our politburo who spends more time and effort locking up law abiding citizens than thinking of ways to keep criminals off the street. How many more girls will be raped, murdered by a guy with a novel sized rap sheet, while law abiding citizens are being harrassed , having their rights stripped and being thrown in jail.
