You will go to jail if they catch you with one. A fixed blade is OK, a Swiss Army is OK. Been in effect for a while now, but I heard about it for the first time while I was in the gun shop looking for a new Gerber Gator. Might of already been discussed here already, but I thought I'd give you the heads up. Due to gang violence.:mad:
 
yup, it's been that way a while now. I travel there frequently and unless provoked the local LEO's really don't give a hoot about it. It's mainly used like you said to punish the gang bangers to have something to throw at them.

This would even make almost any multitool illegal. Yes it's a stupid law but try to get them to repeal it.

I wonder if that breaks the rules, too.

Shocking, the inability of people to reason from cause to effect.

I wonder what bright spark came up with the idea that outlawing locking knives will keep people from being stabbed.

Even funnier, the locking mechanism designed for most folding knives is intended as a safety feature.

So, once again, we see government legislating increased hazard to users in the name of "society's" safety.
 
Probably a sheet rock knife would fall under that, too. Just like in England.

When I drive out of California (actually pretty good knife laws here, surprisingly enough) I carry a SAK non locking in alox like the original military knife, and keep a Spetznaz shovel and hiking staff in the car. All innocent and PC enough. heh, heh, heh
 
When I was in SA, I carried a spyderco clipped in my pocket for 6 YEARS and never had a cop ask me about it. I shot with many cops including SWAT cops and they all had knives as well. So while it may be a law in SA, it is never enforced unless you come to the po-pos attention for other reasons.

I have heard that the SA law is in violation to state law, so while they can charge you, you can always over-turn it in court. Besides, at worst I think they would confiscate it, not jail you, probided you were not charged with other more serious crimes.

Knife ordinances are not preempted by Texas law. :(
 
I don't live in San Antonio, but I have to tell you that I would carry a lockblade knife and never think twice about it. Like others have mentioned, I am willing to bet that this is a seldom enforced law, and it's one of those things that I just generally ignore. Why? Well, honestly put, I don't look or act like the type of person from whom the police could expect trouble. I don't do things that would get me caught with a locking blade knife. Even on the off chance that some policeman did see it and did bring it to my attention, I have a hard time believing that I would even be arrested, let alone convicted, of any crime.

But, thats just me. THR does not encourage people to break the law, and I am not suggesting anyone do so. I am simply saying that I would break it if I lived there, because it's just not something that I think would realistically ever be an issue for me.
 
Last I was in England, I carried an 806 D2 Axis AFCK without the pocket clip after I mailed it to myself care of my brother. I'd carry an even bigger folder in Texas, as everything is bigger there.:D

When in Rome, be a barbarian. That's how I roll. Everywhere you go as a "good guy," these "crimes" are misdemeanor offenses that at worst result in a fine and knife confiscation.

Small theoretical price to pay compared to going about totally defenseless.
