Its true it is no longer offered.Heres the response another member on another board recieved from remington."Thank you for contacting Remington Country,

To answer your question, while the SPS Tactical is no longer offered, the SPS Varmint is. It comes in .308 and is virtually the same gun. The same features that make a rifle tactical make it a varmint gun. They are readily available and are at a comparable price.

Thank you ....................I'm glad I picked one up

Mabey they just discontinued it because they came out with the XCR Compact Tactical, but the XCR is almost double the price, and the LTR is the only other option for an out-of-the-box 20" barreled rifle.

They really should have kept the SPS Tactical:)

I cannot understand why they would discontinue a very popular and relatively inexspensive rifle from the remington lineup.Fyi I think buds still has them in stock.

meh tactical is just a selling point mostly if i wanted a "tactical" 308 ill just save my pennies for a better rifle and do a build or send it out to GA Precision
either way im not SWAT or Military so i dont need a tactical rifle

Remington 700 is the strongest factory action out there, bar none. Mine is doing .5 MOA right out of the box, with my handload's. For the money, $600, there isn't a "better" rifle out there, not in that configuration.

It could be called a the zombie killer, or maybe the the super sniper, Or maybe the hello kitty special.. It all means nothing.. It is a name.. You can go spend $3000+ a GA Prec. if you want.. I am super happy with my $550 sub .5" moa shooting sps TACTICAL:eek:

the one I saw on remingtons(SPS Varmint) was not the same.. It had a longer barrel and differant stock

I like the Hogue overmold stock on the Tactical, alot. The stock on the Varmint SPS is a crappy, plastic synthetic stock. The soft, rubbery feel of the Hogue is really cool.:)

Makes sense to me too, thats the first thing i thought when i read this.

But i did just get the Varmint version, so that will have to do. I do have the stock on it though, it will be soon to go.

I also read on snipercentral, that the SPS Tactical outshot the 700-LTR and the LTR is around $900 MSRP, the SPS, $681. Smallest group with the LTR was .850~ with Federal GMM ammo, the SPS did .452~ with the same ammo at 100 yards.

Yes but it's not like they compaired 10 of each model. But I'm not trying to say the SPS isn't a good value - they are decent shooting sticks.

Thats true.. But the SPS tactical is getting a very good reputation.. I have not heard much bad about them.. Mine also has been shooting sub .5 MOA as well as a couple more in these forums..

I have the SPS-V, it has a 26-in barrel rather than a 20-in barrel and gets the standard Remmy synthetic stock rather than the Hogue. The 700P is identical to the SPS-V save for the HS Precision stock, hence the roughly $200 price difference. Then there is the 700 LTR (700P stock + 20-in fluted barrel), and the XCR Tactical Long Range (with a 26-in barrel, brake, and B&C tactical stock) which is priced above the 700P and the XCR Compact Tactical.

Needless to say, Remington has a huge and often confusing model lineup!

Makes sense to me that Remington would cancel the $500 rifle with a great reputation so that they can sell more $1000+ rifles that need a reputation.
