No visible shortage of firearms for sale...

I was passing through Scranton, PA, today and stopped at the local Gander Mountain. It was around noon (on a Saturday) and I was the ONLY person in the gun section of the store. Not only that, but there was very large selection of both long guns and handguns available for sale.

The mass rush to stock up on firearms before the next election was not evident.
 
Though most folks look for any justification to stock up as I do the economy really isnt allowing them to do so. Kind of a catch .22 these days.
You would think this would drive prices down but they just keep going up. I just read a post where a MINI 30 was selling for 1000.00 some place. I have one but not in your wildest dreams would I pay that price. Seems the retailers are hoping for a good scare to help boost profits. Scare tactics dont work on me but I do enjoy the deals that can be had in the aftermath.

Gun culture is thriving here, in Oregon. I don't know that the majority of gun people here really care about the election, as far as gun rights go.
 
Went to largest gunshow in Oregon Friday and saw lots of tables full of competitively priced firearms. Glock, Springfield and M&P pistols priced around $500, ARs from Colt and S&W around $1100 for standard M4 setup. These prices are close to what they've been for the past few years. Ammo was plentiful and no large amounts being snatched up while I was there. Crowds were light, although it was opening day. Plenty of transactions taking place, but not the huge rush I was expecting after hearing all the buzz lately about shortages and price increases. Sales may be at record levels but it appears supplies are still keeping up with demand.
 
I've seen some signs of the election year crazies, a couple of converted Saiga's on the local arms listing web site, they only want $1200 and $1450 for them... sure glad I bought mine back when they were only $319 for the 7.62x39 one.

I made my circuit of all my favorite gun shops today, plenty of ammo in all of them, picked up 200 PMC in 9mm on sale for $9.97 a box, 200 Blazer brass in 9mm for $10.99 a box and 200 Wolf 7.62x39 for $4.95 a box of 20. Only thing I saw missing was there wasn't many Rugers out there, it kinda looks like everyone is snapping them up if they get traded in or one comes in, just because of their stopping accepting orders, I think some interpret this into "We're stopping making guns"...
Although I have read across a couple of forums that Cheaper than Dirt has already started jacking up their ammo prices, but since I refuse to do business with them I'm not concerned.
 
According to local sources, we are at the beginning of a firearm, ammunition, and primer shortage.

I went looking for some CCI small pistol and small rifle primers at Sportsman's Warehouse (well run place, BTW). Did pick up 200 small rifle, which cleaned them out. Schmoozing with the manager of the gun section, he allowed that everyone who comes in looking for small rifle and small pistol reports that all the local sources are out. They are selling record numbers of firearms, and can't get enough new ones in to cover the sales. Their shelves are well stocked with guns at this point, but that will change as they chew through inventory.

Went to Cabela's. I took their last brick of CCI small pistols, and bought a brick of Federal small rifle (no CCI on hand), which was also their last.

So, maybe it's a false alarm, or maybe it won't be as big a deal as last time. I have no idea. But I've been through a couple of shortages and have made it my practice to keep enough primers on hand to last for a while.
 
Some things are hard to come by locally, but haven't completely dried up. Prices seem pretty stable so far... I think the manufacturers are doing a pretty good job of keeping up with demand. AR and AK rifles have become much more mainstream, and there are more manufacturers pumping out more models than ever before. Lots of people who stockpiled overpriced ammo last time around are probably still sitting on it.
 
I think the rush just hasn't started yet. People in general do not plan ahead. The rush will start around the end of Sept. My prediction and take it for what it cost you.
 
here in NY, I think the trend will remain stable, yet perhaps increase slightly more, following the bell, in other states, where "impulse-buying" is more of an option, I definitely expect a greater upswing.
 
The rush on guns hasn't started, but the rush on ammo has, at least in some areas.

The local store I buy most of my ammo at has mostly bare shelves. They got some 250 round cases of 45 in the other day and put them on sale (not that great of a sale price), and they were sold out within a few hours of opening that day.

We are our own worst enemy...
 
I live south of Fort Worth but work in Oklahoma during the week so I drive by the Cabela's on I-35 north of Fort Worth and usually stop in most Fridays around 2:00 or 3:00. The gun counters have been packed every time, and when its the middle or end of the month the computers to complete the background check are full up with people waiting their turn. That being said, Cabela's has plenty of guns in stock and ammo by the pallets. Cheaper Than Dirt which is also in north Fort Worth is a madhouse every Friday. They are already price-gouging on the ammo. Their gun prices are still pretty decent; so far.
 
I got caught up in the frenzy in 2008. I bought a S&W M&P 15 OR model at Academy for $1,200.00. It took me weeks to even find that one. A year later, I had to sell it and lost my shirt.

In 2010, CDNN had them on sale for $699.00 and SW had their $100 rebate. So even after paying the FFL, tax and shipping I still paid under $700.

Last month I bought another M&P 15 OR at Academy on sale for $900( normally $950) and now have a Windham Weaponry on lay-away at Cabela's that I got for $800 because they price-matched Academy. Both Academy and Cabela's are selling their lower-priced ARs as soon as they hit the dock. Seems like the high-end ones are not moving nearly as fast. But that will probably change as November nears.
 
I asked Del-ton if any of their rifle kits were in-stock? Here is the response.

Thank you for your inquiry. We got hit pretty hard with orders in February, so we had to backorder our builds until we can get caught up. We are not taking backorders for builds at this time.

We are doing as much as we can. Our manufacturers/distributors have not given us decent lead times on parts. We have tripled our blanket orders to try and get more product in, but the demands are exceeding what we can supply. We have also added several more CNC lathes, but getting them set-up and programmed does not happen overnight. The majority of our manufacturers have also added more machinery to accommodate demands.

As far as the chrome-lined barrels, we are very limited on them right now. The 20" barrels are even more scarce. We haven't been able to run any 20s lately due to the demands of the 16". Once we receive somewhat adequate inventory, we will start releasing rifle kits online.

Around here the handguns are going out the doors a bit faster due to a recent problem with Bath Salts locally. So most stores are down on handgun inventory a bit but long guns seem at about the same levels as last year. Ammo disappears faster but I tend to think that's because all the new local firearms owners are needing to feed their new purchases. At least most will do some practicing with their new firearm at first and that takes a fair bit of ammo IMHO. I am surprised that it is not worse due to the 2012 election hysteria.:scrutiny:
 
It is silly to think there will not be another rush soon on guns and ammo. Prices right now are lower than they have been in a long time, and it is best to stock up now. I remember all to well when Glock magazines sold for $120 each.
 
Went by a Walmart in N Georgia couple of weeks ago. They had a Bushmaster AR for $599.00. Went to Wallyworld in mid Ga and they had the same deal, $599.00. Can't beat that, and if I didn't have 6 already.....you know the drill.
 
Frog. Forgive my ignorance but bath salts? What does my bathing habits have to do with gun sales?

I do not have that many contacts in the arms industry but what little I have I have been told this ^ seems to be the norm. Maybe in a year or two there will be some even better deals to be had.

Rifles for the most part are not hard to find.
Now handguns are really starting to get hard for the most favorite ones.

To find out what is hard just go to davidsons and stroll down and just see how many s&w, ruger and a few others you can not order. when it has a A next to it instead of how many they have it means its tough to find.

Low to mid price range and CCW handguns from good makers are getting hard to get.
When talking to a distributor as a dealer you are grabbing what you can get right now.

Here is just a few thats hard to find. S&W sigma types. revolvers 442,642, 637 and anything that you used to be able to pick up under $400. how many gi model springfields under $650 have you seen lately.

Tried to find a bodyguard 380 lately?
how about rugers? lc9 and sr compacts, sr22's p95's good luck.

you like glocks, xd's. m&p's usually not to hard to find
