Non-Trendy EDC

I grew up shooting and competing with revolvers, and despite significant recent effort, I still shoot them better than autos. It probably is a case of old dogs and new tricks, but I simply am more dangerous with a 4" .357 than with a Glock.

In the "old dogs" vein, though, I find that a 4" .357 is getting less and less comfortable to tote around. There are days when I'd just about be glad for some miscreant to put me out of my K frame misery. Yet I still am a horsepower junkie and probably put more faith in a good knife than in a .380, and so more and more find myself packing a 340PD. In many ways it is a completely awful choice - hitting an armored rifleman in the head at fifty yards is about as likely as hitting the moon, and the recoil would do as much damage to me as to him - but at least I meet the definition of "armed".

If we're gonna talk about what's "non-trendy," then we need to define "trendy,."

Given the amazing range of what's currently available for concealed carry -- from years past or newly released -- these days... I humbly submit that there's really nothing fitting the category of "non-trendy."

I gotta say, the last few indoor gun ranges that I’ve been to that are also gun shops have new revolver selections that keep shrinking and shrinking.

The gun shop range I was at on Monday had a revolver to autoloader ratio that made the revolver section size seem like this old movie scene.

So what kind of trend would y'all say that is? :p

Well, I guess this is trendy because it's a Lipsey special? But in all actuality it's the only light weight .32 revolver in production?

A couple months back I reverted from the Glock 20/29 that I had been mainlining for several years to my P16-40 in 10mm. It ain't Gucci.

When he sees the muzzle flash he will dive for cover expecting an artillery round. :neener:

But more on point, I have found the 340PD with Hornady American Gunner 125 grain XTP to be a handful but not impossible to control. I have on occasion recently thought "I ought to carry the 340PD" with +P 38 specials, but I haven't practiced with it in a while. And for me the light weight really does demand practice.

Up til recent times my EDCs were jframes and 1911s.

Conditions got austere and more rural so I switched out the 1911s for a 4in Smith model 64 .38spl. Carried AIWB. Yeah, freakish.

Holster is an old rough out leather IWB with a clip. SIZED for a L frame. Gives the gun and hammer enough coverage and slimmer down where it counts.

Inspired by the recent “Wood And Steel” carry thread, here’s a slightly different take on it… who here carries something that doesn’t necessarily fall unto today’s “status quo” of “polymer automatic carry” ?
I actually do prefer to carry a polymer stiker fired semiautomatic. Not because it is trendy though. I choose it because I don't care if it gets dirty, wet, scratched, or worn. It is just a tool to be carried and hopefully never used, while my pretty steel and wood guns remain clean and pretty.

Seeing as how I don't own a polymer framed automatic, anything I own could qualify for an answer, but I think the two I posted pictures of in the other thread suffice.

You don't have to run the little perisher WFO; mine isn't bad with full charge wadcutters. Though I'd like to try those grips mentioned above!

I am a revolver guy that has a few semi-outdated .380 guns along with.

The closest thing I have as a card-carrying member of the Cool Kids Club™ is a lowly 9mm Shield v1.

*Everything* I carry (or could) is 'non-trendy'.
Or almost...
Just ask some of the THR regulars...
Many are more than happy to confirm.
