Norco, CA house fire; "Evil" ammo cache found

Just did the math, and estimating a 550rnd federal bulk pack of 22lr to be 3x4x5 inches, you'd need on the close order of 64 cubic feet to store a million rounds. That's a cube 4 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet.

Even if you quadruple the volume of the round, that would still fit in a garage.

So, a million rounds of ammo is not a ridiculous estimate.

"OMG!!! I thought this neighborhood was safe!!!"

Dammit, it's safer than most neighborhoods.

"We all wonder why he had all those bullets (sic) ?"

Because he wanted them and/or none of your GD business.

Weedwhacker,
As I said I don't know what happened cuz I was not there...but as you want me to opine on this particular case I can only do so based on what I read in the news article which who knows whether there's any truth in it at all. Seems the guy's house was on fire and he was inside passed out ...not sure what time of day...firearms and ammo/powder not very well secured and located throughout the house.... Then the firefighters arrive (wish a fireman would chime in on this thread) who are charged with protecting him, his property and the community...they save him from himself while trying to save his property...and he takes a swing at them...hmmm...The more recent stories are beginning to make it look like he got the shaft as his neighbors are vouching for him and sounds like he could be a decent guy. I was merely suggesting folks consder the possibilities.

pacodelahoya,
Thanks for the welcome to the board. I'd checked it out a few times before but just the other day realized how much great stuff there is on here. I'm here to stay. BTW it doesn't matter where one lives one should be prepared for the worst. And you need not tell me about what's it's like in California as I'm 20 miles due west of Norco. And unless you've lived out here you don't know what it's like...you only know what you read....but what you've stated isn't that far off. I never suggested capitulating and compromising. I just really wish that more of us gun folks would wake up and embrace anyone and everyone who will help our retention of gun rights regardless of stupid party politics or anything else. And also wake up to realize that the "whack job militant fanatic" is just what the gun grabbers hope for every day so they can use it as "ammo" to perpetuate the myth that everyone with a gun is like that.

Lastly, I like how they call him a "survivalist" like that is a bad thing. Since when is surviving not good? Guess they'd rather he be a sheep.

And I still think the tunnel rocks...wish I had one. Out here a "California basement" ain't much different from a tunnel.

When you are passed out sometimes you fight the person trying to revive you. I had an operation on Friday and tried to have a slug fest with the nurses in recovery. For myself, I barely remember the last of of it but I do remember when I quit fighting them.

OH! Now I get it.... He was recovering from an in-home do-it-yourself lobotomy!!! What are you kidding me with this?? Not making fun of your operation (been there done that a number of times myself) but this is quite a stretch of a totally fabricated excuse for the situation. I suspect he was much more likely sleeping off a few quarts of PBR than recovering from an operation. Was he waking up a second time out in the street when he took a swipe at the firefighter?

BTW...as I posted above....the more that comes out about this the more it seems this guy isn't all that out of whack at all (though I find that some of apparently unnecessary excuses being made for him are). Many of his neighbors are vouching for him. I for one am glad to see it.

It doesn't matter what put you under the fact remains that many people become violent when roused from that deep of sleep. I don't know about the second time.

Objection your Honor, unsubstantiated heresay!!

Objection substained.

though I find that some of apparently unnecessary excuses being made for him are

As are some far out accusations.:)

So, about a week ago, when my wife and I first arrived at my in-laws house in Whittier for a week's vacation. I was sitting reading Guns and Ammo, and she was reading the Whittier Daily News. She read me their first article about this situation (which strangely enough, does NOT appear online) and it was very favorable about the guy. The one thing I remember most is some ATF agent who told the reporter "it's called reloading, and it is not illegal" (referring to the powder the guy had). Also, all of his neighbors were suprised - not that he had firearms, but that they had hauled him away for "observation."

It was just another reminder why we left California, and why we will never return except to visit her family.

Pacodelahoya,
Ooops...sorry..I'm in the wrong place. Didn't realize this was court. Thought I was shooting the breeze with the guys. :) But now that you mention it...what's his defense should one of these guys file assault charges? "Um...sorry your Honor...I was awoken from a deep sleep and was kinda grumpy".

SWModel19,
Did you have a point in there? So in your state the press is perfect? Where do you live that is so great? Maybe the in-laws could come visit you in the future cuz we sure don't need more people out here!!!

TEXAS .. you should try it sometime

How about the fact that he was not endangering anyone else and fireman aren't police therefore they have no powers of arrest? No, that wouldn't fly would it? we all know that only people who are professionally trained are capable of doing anything.

As far as this being court, no, I just found it ironic that you busted on some guy for a silly excuse then you turned right around and made an even SILLIER accusation. Apparently the irony was lost.;)

My statement was not some "silly excuse" but something I had personally experienced, just a few days ago. :scrutiny:

No problemo, pac. I really hate going to PRK anymore. I got the hell out in the late 80's. It was getting too oppressive for me then.

Pardon me, but did I say something to make you angry or are you just an angry jerk all of the time?

For what it is worth, I haven't followed this thread, so I don't know what bug crawled up your bum. The reason I posted to this thread is because I didn't want to start a new one and have it locked for being a duplicate. You see, I've been gone a week without computer access and wanted to check in with the folks I know around here, and I knew this topic would be here from the moment my wife read that NP article.

As for my "point," I guess with your big five posts, you're the new On Topic Moderator around here? And don't let my post count fool you. My user name is new, but only because my old one made me too identifiable, and I like talking about what firearms I own, so I created a new one that lets me do that without threat of my home being broken into. Add about 500 to whatever my post count reads on this post.

And, if you're in the middle of a flame war:

1. Keep it to the people you're warring with.

2. Don't get in flame wars here. It's a good way to get yourself locked out. This is, afterall, The High Road.

ETA: Also, unless you can trace your California ancestry back prior to about 1492, keep your suggestions about where my in-laws should be to yourself. If your family doesn't pre-date the Spanish Era, you're the new comer as far as they are concerned.

The guy was unconscious in a burning building.
Toxic fumes and high levels of carbon monoxide will result in a drug like state and confusion. The guys aggressiveness might have been a normnal reaction in this situation.

the cbs evening news had a segment a few weeks back about coyotes living in LA and attacking dogs. maybe he just had a pet he wanted to protect. and the tunnel was probably there for doing scientific studys of earthworms and ants.

Just having some fun. Irony was not lost. Also just trying to keep some objectivity around here.

Wasn't endangering the guy he took a swing at? And where I live houses are a few feet apart so I hope my neighbors store their ammo properly ...like I do...like he didn't.

More people should think like this. Well done.

To SWModel19,
Geez....don't take it so hard. You seem to have issues with CA and I really could not tell WHY except maybe you think this is the only state where the press stretches the truth??? Do help me understand your post other than general CA bashing. Just trying to understand your point. And thanks for the concern about my derriere but there's no bugs in there. Sure I'm a newcomer here and I mean no offense...and am here to stay in what I hope all will ultimately find is a good way. But if you wanna make a comment about "just another reason why you left CA and will never return" well...sorry if I didn't roll out the welcome mat. I sincerely wish more people DID think like you but apparently they don't cuz folks are moving here in droves and I truly wish that was not the case...but it IS for a reason...and it ain't the gun laws!!!

They say this guy is a survivalist. But that obviously isn't true. If he was he would have left California for Idaho or Northern Nevada a long time ago. :neener:

No, he does sound like a survivalist. But so what? I could care less. It is irrelevant. He might have had alot of ammo, and been preparing for societal chaos and breakdown, but, think about California, and it makes sense.

sigh*

how many of us would dare call ourselves survivalists? good god, i find myself afraid to call myself a survivalist because some LEO may be watching this site and will flag my file or something like that.

we, supposedly a free people, have to watch what we call ourselves.

CA...beats what is probably the vast intellectual wasteland where you are. Cuz where you are you don't need to worry bout such things so I suggest you go out and sell all your ammo and guns...cuz you live in nirvana.

I share some of your sentiment about "survivalist"....since when is survival a bad thing?

Edit: apologies...I didn't see that you proudly identify yourself as being from Missouri...I don't need to say any more.
