Minnesota just had their permitless carry bill go down in flames. Nice to see North Dakota pass it.

GUNS IN AMERICA: NORTH DAKOTA LATEST TO ALLOW PERMITLESS CARRY OF CONCEALED WEAPONS

BY MICHELE GORMAN ON 3/24/17 AT 4:44 PM

North Dakota has become the 12th state to allow most law-abiding adults to carry concealed guns without permits, after Republican Governor Doug Burgum late Thursday night signed a bill into law.

Under what’s known as constitutional carry, residents wishing to carry concealed guns will only be required to possess a valid North Dakota driver’s license or state identification card for at least a year, and to notify law enforcement officials about the weapon during a traffic stop or any other related incident. Individuals who have been convicted of felonies or violent crimes will be prohibited from carrying, according to a release from Burgum’s office.

Prior to this new law, which will take effect on August 1, only authorities and permit holders could carry concealed firearms, and officials were allowed some discretion in issuing concealed-carry licenses. To qualify for permits in North Dakota, residents had to participate in classroom instruction and pass an open-book test, according to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Licenses to carry concealed weapons were valid for a maximum of five years. The new law will allow residents to forego those requirements.

Would you call that a draw??:scrutiny: We have recently had our states constitutional carry restored and the rhetoric that there will be gunfights at every street corner have been proved wrong yet again.:p I think people are slooowly coming around on such matters and realizing what is really the problem. Then protecting themselves is more important than PC think.

Yep, that's for sure. And we heard the same tired rhetoric (in Idaho at least) from the same people way back 30 years ago when the concealed carry with a permit law was passed - gunfights over minor traffic incidents and blood in the streets. Then we heard it again 20 years later when on-campus concealed carry laws were enacted. We heard it again last year when the constitutional carry law was enacted.
Well, none of that came to pass. Except for one silly teacher on the Idaho State University campus shooting himself in the foot during class (which you know the news media raised all kinds of racket over) there's been very, very few incidents involving guns for the leftists to whine about since Idahoans started carrying concealed legally.
BTW, open carry has been legal in Idaho since long before I was born. It was a lot more common when I was a kid too. My folks had a small, country store back then, and nobody thought much about it when a local farmer, or someone who had been out bumming around in the hills, came into the store with a revolver on their hip.:)

Yup, great day here on the open plains of North Dakota! :) There was some question as to weather or not it would pass after the South Dakota governor vetoed their Constitutional Carry law but in the end, Governor Burgum did hold up to the A+ rating the NRA gave him. What's even better is that they will still offer the Class I and II permits for folks that want to carry out of state in areas that have reciprocity with North Dakota as well.
One thing that still has me puzzled is that in North Dakota, you can open carry legally but only if you have a CCW permit. Yeah, strange law, I know. Now how will this work if you want to open carry but don't have to have a CCW permit to conceal carry?

Yeah, that IS kind of weird. I'd be interested to see how it all works out.
Idaho had two types of CCW permits (regular and enhanced) before it became a constitutional carry state last year. The enhanced versions has reciprocity with a few more states and provides legal, on campus carry.
My wife's and my "regular" CCW permits don't expire until 2019. After that, I think we'll both probably just go ahead and take the required class and get our "enhanced" CCW permits. I don't much give a crap about carrying in other states that only accept Idaho's "enhanced" CCW permits, but I DO go on campus at Idaho State University every once in a while. Besides, one of the main advantages of having an Idaho CCW permit (regular or enhanced) is that the gun dealer doesn't have to phone in for a background check on you when you're buying a gun. Well, that and the fact that the wife and I both feel that training, especially CCW training, wouldn't be a bad thing for either of us to have.:)

Welcome to the cool kid club ND. We have Constitutional Carry in VT...For now...
