    Counter,

That sucks. Hopefully, I'll be able to make it on one of those days to meet-up with ya.

Well, looks like we are on for 6:30PM tommorow at the NRA range. Hope I get to meet more of you guys. I will be bringing my Steyr M9 so if you haven't shot one, you will!

    dghboy,

Great! I guess the easiest way would be to tell the person at the counter that you are a High Roader so they can let the folks coming in later know where you are.

i'm going to try to be there by 6:45. but, a friend of mine, steven, will be there earlier. he needs to take the test. he was in the military, so he has some familiarity w/ guns, but he has not been shooting in a long time. i told him a little about THR, but if you guys see him, please say hi. he's a tall, 20something white guy.

Alright Im thinking of going shooting sometime soon. Maybe this week or next week. Im getting some new nights sights which should be here by Saturday so I'll probably make it for next week. I guess it would be wise to go there and take the test first? Sounds good, I need some ammo though. BTW Id love to shoot that XD9 V10 to see how the recoil and flash is. I was gonna get the ported XD40 but I felt the barrel had too many holes when I just wanted maybe a couple up front.

    Hey XD40,

If you are up for meeting some fellow shooters, you are welcome to come on over to Blue Ridge Arsenal where I shoot on Fridays (~6:30PM) with a good group of folks.

As for our latest NoVA shoot last night (3-3-05), it was even more successful than the last! We had seven shooters come out to play. Three of them were neighbors coming down from MD (Dghboy315, Chris Rhines & friend) and four were local (TFL poster Chris in VA, hightech & friend, and yours truly). I was really excited to see someone from TFL join us. Though some of us post on both of these fine forums, there are many that post exclusively on one of the two so getting all of us out together would be great.

For folks that missed it, you missed the chance to shoot hightech's Performance Center 19-7. As with his last 19, this revolver was a fine piece of machinery. Couple that with the fact this I was able to shoot actual .357 magnums for the first time, I literally had a blast! I also had a chance to shoot Chris in VA's CZ-75BD. I have never even held one of these fine pistols before but it just melted in my hand. As I mentioned to the group last night, I always thought the the CZ-75 full-size pistols would be too big too carry. However, I was surprised at how manageable this piece is to wield. Needless to say, the CZs are on my to-buy list (getting longer each day). :p

We are probably going to try to make these NoVA shoots at least a monthly affair. Since we just met last night, it'll probably be a few weeks til we meet again, though I certainly don't mind meeting sooner. As it stands, I think we should shoot for meeting on Wednesday March 30th or April 6th. Hope to meet more of you fine folks our next time out!

    Hi

Didn't even know thehighroad existed until I saw a reply on thefiringline. I'm an annual member at Blue Ridge and got like 8 free hours from it due to buying a handgun there (2 free hours), being an annual member (4 free hours), and the suicide (got 2 free hours).

Why they keep giving me free hours when I'm an annual member? I dunno but it makes it cheap for people who shoot with me.

I'm thinking about getting my next annual membership from NRA except that I never have to wait at Blue Ridge and I'm not a patient man.

I've been looking for shooting buddies up here in N VA. Although I like shooting my Glock 17 9mm (33 round magazines are fun), Glock 32 357 sig, SA 1911 .45 Operator (made me realize all those 1911 loving glock haters maybe have a point), and Beretta Storm 9mm and occasionally my friends 357 magnun, HK USP, and Sig Sauers.... those just aren't enough guns for me to shoot. :)

The only person I think i've met on this thread is countertop even though I didn't know it at the time. He was with me when that suicide happened at blue ridge.

I'm planning to hit up blue ridge tomorrow night and/or nra/blue ridge saturday night. see you guys there. i'll be shooting a sa 1911 or glocks. if i bring the storm it has an eotech sight on it. asian guy with beard maybe glasses wearing bdu pants late 20s.

    Hey Metellus

I'll be at the NRA saturday night - wearing my Celebrate Diversity shirt and shooting an assortment . . . not sure what just yet though.

We can talk a bit more about your question then.

    Hi Metellus,

Like I said in my post on TFL, the bunch I shoot with are at Blue Ridge every Friday ~6:30PM. If you head over tomorrow, let me know and I'll keep an eye out for you and introduce you to some folks. Among us, we have a nice assortment of firearms so chances are you'll get to sample some neat wares. Also, if you have read some of this thread, you'll know that we have just had two great NoVA shoots recently so things are starting to get organized among us locals. Oh BTW, welcome to The High Road! :p

Chris in VA, no problem. There will be other Fridays. Have a safe trip!

XD40, excellent! No need to be ashamed of the paternal figure. I think shooting is a great parent-child bonding experience ... one that I wish I would have had with my dad. As my age, I am 27. :p Be glad you are getting into shooting this early. I only started two months ago so there have been a string of many memorable "firsts" over that time. On Wednesday, hightech facilitated me shooting my first .357 magnum and it was unreal. I really want a revolver because they are quick to expose my "trigger jerk" problem. As an aside, I went to a pawn shop oin Manassas that had a worn Security Six for cheap. Went to look at it twice but never bought it. Alas, it isn't there anymore! :banghead:

    !

I'm 27 as well. The only thing I don't like about the storm is that the screws that lock the front rails on break so easily. So I got a ghetto looking storm where one of the screws is a cheap stainless steel colored replacement from home depot where the rest of the gun and screws are black. i wish they had a built in front rail system instead of the screwed on stuff. but still fun with the eo tech.

couldn't make it friday due to work. but i'm headed over to BRA tomorrow night saturday around 7pm.

Good for you Kony! My dad has a .357 Mag that weve been shooting so maybe you'll get to enjoy it some more if we meet up. Im hoping we can do something next Friday but it all depends on when I get my new sights installed and if we can afford the ammo. The recoil between the mag and my XD is a very different experience. With my XD the muzzle goes upwards and with the .357 it just shoots the gun backwards. Its not as bad as when I first shot it out in a desert when I was about 15 but it still seems like it packs quite a punch. The flames are very nice too! Cant wait :D

    Hey XD,

Yea, I hear ya on the ammo costs. If you are going to stick with the 40, I'd say reloading is the only way to keep costs down. Even the WWB at Wal-Mart is still ~$16 a box, IIRC. This was my rationale for getting a 9mm. If and when I do go on to get a .357, .40 or .45, reloading will be mandatory.

As for your dad's .357, well ... you talked me into it! :D If you decide to head over Friday, drop me an email and/or PM and I'll be sure to look for ya. I actually went over to BRA yesterday and the lanes were full when I got there at 7pm. I am not a member so I get no priority so I decided not to shoot. :cuss:

Just picked up 5 100 round WWB specials at the wal-mart in Dulles Town Center for $19 each. not too bad of a deal, and not much more than I was paying for .40 S&W

But your right, I think the costs are going to necessitate handloading.

BTW - I'll be at the NRA Range about 7;00 pm tonight, if anyone is interested.

I'll be shooting a SS Colt 1991 and maybe a revolver or two.

Counter, you end-up going tonight? If so, how was it? Anybody else there? Always wondered how crowded the NRA gets on a Saturday night.
