Nothing personal intended, but Illinois sucks!!!!

Well if you went through Effingham you were only 35 miles from me, you should have said hi.

I'm sorry you were disappointed in the topography of our state. Perhaps the next Ice Age will push the beautiful hills of Southwestern Wisconsin down a little farther South in front of the glaciers and we can have the state in better shape for you next visit.....

Actually, the glaciers missed the part right to the west of me (the extreme northwest corner of the state). It's very hilly and scenic up that way.

Effingham, on up to Champaign -- now that's flat. Ditto, Bloomington to Rockford up 57 -- mind numbing driving.

Some of us like to live dangerous

You have to admit it can get get exciting. Been through there a few times. Just keep the wheels rolling as much and as fast as possible. It's the only place I ever had the driver of a pimpmobile (or any vehicle for that matter) try yelling to me at 85mph. I actually did let off the trottle for a second to try and figure out what that flapping noise was. Thought my tire was coming apart. Not sure what freaked me out worse... The fact that he'd wanted to compliment my chrome on the interstate or that he actually caught up with me in all that traffic. :D

Ill-Annoy

Greetings from behind the lines in the peoples republic of IL. I am a humble servant of the citizens of C(r)ook County. What I can add is that there are, believe it or not, a sizeable fraction of the population that supports the 2nd ammendment, as well as concealed carry. The alleged republican party in IL is apparently unable to develop the testicular capacity to get anyone elected to office. Daley and Bagojeivich (sp?) are at least fighting among themselves, which is good for us. As one of the blessed few that does have the legal ability to defend myself with a gun, (And I have, no less than 3 times in 10 years) I can sympathize. We struggle here, and we do the best we can with the corruption and idiocy that we are stuck with.

When the city was looted during the bulls championships in 91, 92 and 93, I got calls from people who wanted to know if I had any ammo to spare "if things get outa hand"... While I did have some, you can bet I wasnt the only one. When it goes bad in chicago, (and it will!) only the well prepared will be capable of defending their homes and families.

By the same token, as it stands, I agree with those who hate IL. We have an incredible amount of corruption in chicago and cook county in general, along with the Gestapo like Tollway authority. When I can retire, I will be taking the retirement checks to some other more gun friendly state. Until then, we work against the mis-informed.

" I wouldn't live in such a place, and I can't understand why people do ..."

Maybe it's the mountain scenery.

It's interesting to note in another thread this morning that the Daley Domain has the highest pecentage of police coerced false confessions in the country.

And wasn't it 13 people who were sent home from death row when it was found that various prosecutors withheld information that would have found the various victims of the system not guilty? I think I heard that DNA had nothing to do with these releases; just learning the truth that the DAs withheld did the trick.

And wasn't one prosecutor moved up to the position of assistant State Attorney General and then busted for attempted murder when it was found that he managed to get a false conviction against a man? How did he make out in the end? Up against a wall, I hope.

Ahhhhh....home crap home.

Hillbilly...I gotta admit I share many of your sentiments and as of this summer I've been living here for 20 years! :what: But I will give a hearty +1 to those posters who have really pegged the problems in this state. It isn't the people (generally...some are undesireable but how is that different from anywhere else? ), it isn't the topography (we have some beautiful places here; NW Illinois and far south specifically) and it isn't the roads.

The problem in Illinois is the evil, entrenched corrupt political machinery in and around the city of Chicago. We have city politicos who lord over and bully Springfield all year long and we see payoffs, bribes, theft, patronage and graft as the SOP all the time.

Illinois will clean up its act when the people are ready to do the cleaning. Some of us are working towards that....many of us are not. (the collar counties are too fat and happy to care)

We live here for the same reason that anyone lives anywhere...because it is home and our wives are here, our children are here, and our parents are here. Would that it was 1830 and I could pack the family up in a Conastoga and find someplace a little more suitable...I would. But it isn't 1830...and so work for change I must. (Sorry....got a little Yoda there... :neener: )

Illinois wasn't a problem in 1830, or, for most, even 1930.

Mr. X,

Right on both counts. I was just using the pioneer metaphor to try and illustrate that it isn't so easy to just get up and go. People have jobs, mortgages, family, etc. I'd take 1830s or 1930s Illinois any day of the week. :D

If we, the disgruntled and stalwart opposition to the Chicago way of thinking were to leave this state then what is to stop the stench of Chicago left wing politics from rolling over the rest of the state and then out to areas that border this beautiful but bizzare state?

You shouldn't be whining about the way it is.

You should should be thanking us for preventing the way it could be!

That's what I'm talking about!! In fact...why bother with the trip to the hardware store. Just order it out of the Sears catalog. :p

I confess a hardwired, provincial disdain for flat-lands.

My THR handle is HILLbilly...........

It must be very difficult to live in such a situation as in Illinois.

I'm just glad I don't have to do it.

Like I said, nothing personal meant towards any good, gun-totin' folks forced to live in such a state.

And I would gladly take up any and all offers of food, beverage, or just plain old visiting from those who offered it on this thread....

Especially if it could take place somewhere else.....say in Arkansas?

I've got a range in the backyard, even.
