NoVA Gun Stores

Howdy, folks.
I'm on vacation and staying in Woodbridge at the mother-in-law's place for a few weeks until I get to my new duty station. I'm trying to find a THR approved gun shop from which I can get some decent deals. I've got about 500-800 sitting in the budget for guns but I'd like to have some left over. Keep in mind that I'm officially no longer trapped in PRK and will be moving in a few weeks to NC so I must celebrate my independence.
I'm looking at:

AK's and Non-Converted Saiga's (7.62x39 or 12 gauge)
M4gery type AR's (.223/5.56 only)
9mm non-AR Carbines
A Hi-Cap .45ACP Handgun with a rail to add a light
Something else that's big black and ugly.

My wife (a VA Resident) will buy and own the guns (she's already confiscated1/3 of the collection) and let me use them when she's not using them.

**ETA** A levergun in .357 would also be quite dandy as well.

I don't know how to break this to you but I wonder if any of the NOVA gun dealers will touch that mix.

ND resident, stationed out of CA, Moving to NC, having wife (va resident?) purchase guns.

Here you go. Have to be a Virginia Resident though, or have military orders assigning you here. So if you don't meet requirements, you will be window shopping.

Best part is they are within 3 miles of each other. Both good shops.

Ditto on the above reference to Virginia Arms and Guns & Ammo Warehouse. Well stocked. Friendly staff at both places that know what they are talking about. No attitudes, Great customer service.

I've never had a problem at either site whenever I stopped by. Even when I just wanted to look and fondle.

Well, my wife will be buying the guns. She's got a valid VA DL and will be purchasing the guns. Before you raise your hand and scream straw purchase, she'll be the primary shooter on these guns. We're trying to find a gun that will fit both her and me for fun shooting and she's looking for more firepower than her savage .22LR and Ruger P89 9mm.

Really, you're married. Even if she did buy it "for you", its communal property. I'm sure legally thats not solid. But c'mon, I wouldnt worry about straw purchase, etc. I think you need a big ugly nasty black G21sf with rail.

Also, I know you said levergun, but equally cool is the new taurus rifle. They come chambered in .357mag or .45lc. They are pump action old style rifles, very cool. I mean, if you looking for the cool factor, thats up there IMO.

so in VA you must be a resident to purchase long arms? I'm a missouri resident in a student capacity with a MO DL but my parents live in NoVA. I'm just curious because there's a wonderful surplus shop there i'd like to buy a rifle from.

LONG HAIRED HIPPY: No, you don't need to be a Virginia resident to purchase a long gun here. You will need TWO forms of identification with the same address on them, one of which must be a drivers license or state-issued photo ID card. The second can be a voter's card, auto registration, hunting or fishing license, concealed carry permit, bank check, or utility bill.

And where is that "wonderful surplus shop"?

Wow, I just learned something.

I was told at the gun shop I needed to be a VA resident when I purchased a pistol here. I guess I just assumed that applied to all firearms since they always checked my car registration against my drivers license.

Aaryq, Sorry to pass on bad info, wasn't intentional.

I also would like to know where this surplus shop is.

There is a shop in Purcelville that has a quite a few of older milsurp rifles. That is the only one I know of.

I can't remember the name, but they also have a large collection of helmets, uniforms, knives, etc. it's a great place, but i've only been there once and i wasn't driving, so i couldn't get back on my own. place had everything from your basic 870 Wingmaster from the 70s to a japanese howa copy of the M1 carbine.

I'm pretty sure the surplus store being referred to was Potomac Arms in Old Town Alexandria. Unfortunately, they went out of business about 4 years ago.

Also, I agree the best gun shop in Nothern Virginia is Virginia Arms in Manassas. Guns and Ammo is also good and is more hunting oriented. Don't bother with Dawsons or Blue Ridge. They are both way overpriced.
