Just saw on the news that my favorite gun store was robbed. 12+ less handguns and a bunch of 'assault rifles' no longer available to the good guys.

According to Channel 9

They got thru the bars, grabbed a bunch of hand guns and rifles and were gone in 4 minutes.

They interviews a blonde Mommy in Silver Spring who doesn't think the stolen weapons are going to be used for hunting

?

Which store?

I'm sure they'll interview someone who isn't at work at 1030 in the morning on a weekday who will proffer the expert opinion that you, me, and all the rest of us should give up ours to be sure the guys who robbed that store will be the only ones who have them. That way, the cops can be sure they have the correct guys when they investigate the next few murders.

I saw the coverage on Fox channel 5 last night. They mentioned it's the third time this store has been robbed, but that it's not unique because other gun shops in the area have been robbed multiple times as well. 30 guns were taken.

The last time the store was robbed, the robber came in through the ceiling after breaking into the Chinese restaurant next door (the shop is in a strip mall). They eventually caught the guy, and he went on trial yesterday.

Also in the news, DC cops went to serve a warrant on a juvenile. They peeked in the door and were suprised to see lots of "assault weapons" and drugs. I understand their surprise, since evil guns are banned in DC. They arrested 4 people, but didn't find the juvenile.

That's terrible. More guns on the street. Better pass a new law.

Seriously, that is a great store, it is too bad they were hit. More guns in bad guys' hands, fewer guns in ours (the Gun Rack has a good selection of pre-1/1/03 guns, so now there are probably 12 fewer MD legal, no-lock, guns- CZs, Kahrs, Glock, SIG, etc., they had a good selection of all of these). If they took pre-1/1/03 guns without locks those guns can't be replaced due to our wonderful, all knowing, all caring, MD legislators.

hardly a blip in the washington post:

Gun shop burglary: Police in Montgomery County are investigating the burglary of 30 weapons from a gun store early yesterday in Burtonsville.

Twenty semiautomatic handguns and 10 assault rifles were taken from the Gun Rack Ltd., at 15420 Old Columbia Pike, police said.

Police responding to a 2 a.m. burglar alarm at the store found the front door forced open and a glass display case shattered.

5 Rifles Taken From Silver Spring Gun Store

Tow Truck Used In Smash, Grab Robbery

SILVER SPRING, Md. -- Police say thieves used an unusual method to gain entry to a gun store Tuesday morning in Silver Spring, Md.

Atlantic Gun Store Robbery About 4 a.m., police in Montgomery County, Md., say an alarm sounded at the Atlantic Gun Shop in the 900 block of Bonifant Street.

When officers arrived they found that someone used a stolen tow truck to pull open the bars and the front door. Police said the thieves then stole five rifles, among them four assault-style rifles.

"Apparently the two truck was stolen from Prince George's County yesterday morning," said Montgomery County police Lt. John Hack. "The culprits used the tow truck and the cable to pull the door away from the building and then made their entry."

Once inside, the thieves smashed a glass display case and took four AR-15s, which are semi-automatic assault rifles and one .308, a hunting rifle with a scope.

Police said the crooks acted fast. "We were there in less than one minute. They were in and out, smashed, grabbed and ran. Now we have five rifles, high-powered rifles, on the street somewhere. That's my concern," Hack said.
