I'm a gun nut. Let me repeat that. I'm a gun nut. No, I'm not talking about sk's, ar's, ak's nor am I talking about the high $ antique collector guns. I talking the traditional wood and metal guns of many years ago up untill the other day guns. Stevens, Marlin, Remington, Winchester, H&R, Hunting, Plinking, Shooting guns.
I have a ten gun safe. Ten long guns with shelves for ammo. There is no place for handguns. But, somehow three have found their way in there. I don't know. They are just kind of laying there behind, between, under the stocks of long guns.
Now my problem. A few weeks ago I brought home a new to me 12ga. Shotgun. To smooth it over with the wife I told her " don't let me buy anymore guns. I have enough." You know how it goes. Then the other day I gave my son "who is 50 this month" "dang I'm getting old" a H&R 410 that has been hanging out in the back corner for a lot of years. Well that left a bare spot in my safe so I started rearranging. Ok? Don't ask me how but I came up with a way to fit 3 more long guns and about 8_10 more boxes of ammo in the safe.
Now, How in the heck am I going to tell her I need to buy three more guns and all that ammo?
Does anyone else ever have problems like this? Do you man up and tell her your going to spend all that money? Or do you kind of sneak around it when she's not looking?

I know your post is tongue in cheek, but I would never lie to my wife about a firearms purchase or try to sneak one in.
Totally agree.

OP you must choose a wife wisely. It's easier if she likes guns too. Mine comes up with reasons for me to buy stuff.
I buy a gun and she asks if I have dies for it.
You an always wait for father's day, Christmas, etc.

As far as my wifes concerned its my money. As long as bills are covered, i can do what I like. As can she, with her money.
Now If i buy too many new toys (not just guns) she may check me, but even thats pretty rare.

The credit cards we share, and if a big purchase is going on one of those there be a discussion to be had.

HEH! worst money argument we had was me wanting to spend a grand on a new video card. Issue wasnt the cost, it was that It was for her PC and I couldnt play with her till I came up with enough to make mine run again. Think i ended up selling a few guns, and eating tomato soup for a while to pay for that one lol.

Has been from day one with my wife a rule"I hunt I shoot ,please don't interfere." She has been perfectly fine with it for all these years. My advise to young guys is to nip it in the bud. If its an issue now it wont get better in years to come. My wife never is cold or hungry,so no harm no foul with what I buy or shoot or hunt.

I've been lucky in having a wife who is a free thinker. I obsess about larger purchases, feel it has to be a bargain before I commit, much more than she does. Many of my purchases have hinged on whether I think I can sell it for a profit if necessary.

When I ask her what she thinks, her answer invariably is, whether it be sports cars, motorcycles, or guns, "you know our finances, if you think we can afford it, buy it".

I would not dishonor our relationship by hiding things.

Don't lie!
That said I have no experience with that problem. She is a big gun lover and better shot;),
We don't have separate money - 27 years and it all goes into the pot as "our" money and every Monday night we have bill paying party with wine and cheese and spreadsheets:D
Just the other day she came home with a nice used Charter Arms 38 snubbie. Her third.

Last week I said to my wife, "I'm a bit low on 40 S&W target ammo but I can still get it online, a bit higher than it was".
My wife says, "You better get it".
Been married 30 years, I chose wisely. Pictured is my wife shooting her Glock 21SF (it use to be mine).

ETA: Have your spouse watch the news for awhile, they will agree that you need more guns and ammo.

I have my own gun fund for guns only. Ammo is bought on a credit card. She's outdone me with her beads and jewelry-making stuff - of course her stuff she makes and sells for fun side income; my hobby costs to enjoy!

Might want to fill that spot with an AR15 if you can find (or build) one these days. Just sayin.

Trust me, I was the prototypical "If it aint .30-06 then its a tinker toy and Jesus would shoot a Garand!" type until about 5 years ago when I discovered how much fun the little .223 is and its no toy. The ammo is still cheaper than '06, even now, and takes up a relatively small amount of volume for the number of stored rounds.

Even if you dont care for the Black Gun looks, they do everything pretty well- plinking, home defense, and small/medium game hunting. Try one, you wont regret it. If you just cant get past the styling, dont forget there is always the Mini14. It does all of the above, just not quite as well by an hair.

In any event, my wife is pretty accepting. She knows our guns are just cash in gun form and can be liquidated fairly quickly if there is a pressing need to. With recent events, she even let me repurpose an unused closet into a magazine. Moving most of the ammo there allowed me to free up more space in the armory. Im not planning on packing any more guns in there- Ive got plenty- but now everything is better organized and accessible.

Until now, Ive had guns that havent been shot in years just because it was too much of a pain to dig them out of the pile......

Everyone has his or her own system of handling family money. Some systems work and some do not. If your system is working, follow it. Don't lie.

I know for a fact I am not always responsible with money, so I usually consult with my wife and usually follow her advice. I just know she is more logical about purchases and more willing to wait....like a real adult.

I dont count shoes if she doesnt count guns.
The other thing is, what mama wants....mama gets. That's why I have a ski boat and not a Ljutic trapgun.

Amored farmer I don't have a boat but I do have a Ljutic spacegun. This one is not mine I didn't have time to get it and take a pic,but mine is the same model.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:
That’s funny! My wife has a particular little smile that she gets every time I buy a new knife. I suspect it’s similar to the smile I get when she buys a new purse. But here’s the thing: I’ve been looking for the perfect, all-purpose EDC knife for years, and I suspect my wife has been looking for the perfect, all-around, concealed carry purse for just as many years!:D
Seriously, we’ve never done the “your money and my money” thing - we have a joint checking account, joint savings accounts, a joint credit card, and it says “or” on the titles of everything we have titles for. And as far as guns go, my wife is as into guns as I am.
We each have our own guns of course, but there’s at least a couple of reasons for that: First, because I’m a lot bigger than my wife, her guns won’t fit me, and vice-versa. Second, because my wife and I have different likes and dislikes when it comes to guns.
It all works out well though - we celebrated our 49 Anniversary last month, I bought my wife one of those Henry, “American Beauty” 22LR rifles for our Anniversary 5 years ago, and she bought me a Shiloh-Sharps 45-110 for our Anniversary 24 years ago. Paying for each rifle was done with a check written on our joint checking account - the only difference was who signed the check.;)
I bought myself a Glock 44 a few months back, and right from the start, I liked it so much I went back with my wife and ordered a Glock 19 Gen 5 to match. On the other hand, my wife likes my Glock 44 a lot, but she pretty much loves her Smith Shield 380 EZ for EDC (in one of her many concealed carry purses), so I doubt she’ll want a Glock 19 for herself.;)
