Many organizations have regular and Life membership levels. In their zeal to continue money flowing in NRA has not one, but four levels of Life Membership. This note is to lay out the levels and nominal costs so new NRA members are aware of the mailings they will get soliciting either renewal or upgrade.
This note is not for diving in on disagreements and disagreeable opinions about the value of NRA or decisions to be or stay a member. If the thread even hints at going in that direction, expect the THR Moderators to lock it down immediately.

First fact: NRA regularly puts memberships on on sale, sometimes at deep discounts. One such sale is going on now, to end on July 24, 2020.

Current "list price" for NRA membership levels:
NRA Member (annual) $ 45
NRA Member (annual) $ 25 (current sale)
NRA Life Member $1,500
Superlife Members
NRA Endowment Life Member $1,000
NRA Patron Life Member $1,500
NRA Benefactor Life Member $1,500

Now, here is what I actually paid for each level, by waiting for the discount mailings.
Each upgrade I also got a special gift for my trouble.
01/02/2017 Life $ 85
6/30/2018 Endowment Life $250 NRA range bag
11/23/2018 Patron Life $300 NRA fleece jacket
06/01/2020 Benefactor Life $250 Black Mesa Elite Backpack

So, over 3 1/2 years I spent $885 (as Bob Barker or Drew Carey would say, "With a retail value of $5,500!) to climb the member ladder, and each time got a bonus "gift" that I actually wanted. Note that I rejected several upgrade offers when the discount was not deep enough or the special gift was not something I wanted.
Adding to the confusion, any level of Life membership is also called a Patriot Life Member.

The bottom line: once NRA has your money, they will continue to bombard you with special offers to renew annual at discount or elevate your member level. Your money, your choices, just realize you can hold out for better deals if you wish to continue throwing money their way.

Again, if you reply here, please do not start the NRA arguments again. This note is to inform folks of a confusing membership plan at NRA.

I received pretty much the same deals as you from being a disable veteran. They are always sending me stuff. Every time I have upgraded my membership I have gotten deep discounts as a disabled veteran. I'm currently at Benefactor.

Thanks.
I do 5 year memberships, in case I don't like the direction they're headed I don't need to renew.
But I will likely buy a life membership if I see the price is right.
