In today's mail I got an application for membership to the NRA. I intend to join, but I have one question, if anyone knows the answer:

How did they find my address? I've never contacted them, so I'm just curious. Do they perhaps purchase address lists from sporting goods companies (that's my best guess)? Or is this just a random distribution?

Do you subscribe to any magazines or do you receive any catalogs? They don't even have to be gun or hunting related. Anywhere your name is on a mailing list, it can be bought and sold to someone else.

Probably the same way every other mail solicitor fount it... they buy mailing address listings. That being said, if you ever thought about joining, now is the time.

Some gun stores offer a free one-year NRA membership with a gun purchase. And I wouldn't be surprised to learn NRA gives FFLs a buck or two per name to build mailing lists.

Absolutely!!
Without them? There would be little doubt that this forum would be a (what if we were allowed.. & a We USED to do this.. & a what brand of golf club is best for H.D when most of the BGs in my area made a deal for "nines"!!!)

Okay, gents, that's all pretty much as I figured, except that they took a long while getting to me. I'll be phoning in my three-year membership now.
