And yet the statement is factual...ratings are up, parents are crying, and mass media is clearly excitedly taking every advantage

Mass murder is news. We are in real trouble the day it becomes so normal that it doesn't make national news anymore.

In a completely prepared speech she said this: "Many in legacy media love mass shootings. You guys love it. Now, I'm not saying that you love the tragedy. But I am saying that you love the ratings. Crying white mothers are ratings gold to you and many in the legacy media."

That does absolutely nothing to help the NRA brand and a lot to damage it. I don't think it is a coincidence that other companies started dropping their NRA affiliations after that completely stupid statement.

People have been accusing the media of this for decades, thus the old term:

“If it bleeds it leads.”

And our country has a long history of traitors selling us out. Thankfully they always get caught and justice is served.

So may you get what’s appropriate for being against the most important Amendment in our Bill of Rights

Let us not forget CNN sending producers and organizers to the school the morning after the shooting to get people coached up on their planned rallies and events. These aren't 'student protests'...they are 'CNN protests using students traumatized by a recent shooting'. One of the 'students' out front and featured in every demonstration actually graduated several years ago and....surprise....his mother works at CNN. They've just been salivating waiting for the next shooting to unleash their hit pieces against the NRA because they're still hurting from us defeating their chosen candidate last election and the several million NRA members did their part to make sure Mrs Clinton didn't get elected. It is all out WAR from CNN.

In the aftermath of a tragedy, silence is golden. The NRA should not have agreed to send a spokesperson to an energized lynch mob. The CNN town hall wasn’t a debate or a constructive discussion; it was a set-up. The survivors were seeking redemption. Any attempt by the NRA to refute their misguided anger was not going to go well. The event was the ultimate “no-win scenario”.

Fast forward to what we know now; the ineptitude of the FBI and the Broward County’s sheriff department. Add to that the “amazing” leadership of the sheriff himself. Sadly, it does not change a thing. The Democrats will make guns an issue for the midterms irrespective of getting new reforms now.

However, we should put something on the table; improve the accuracy of the background check, armed guards in schools. Then switch focus to the things that matter most; the economy, infrastructure, healthcare. The Dems are great at providing criticism but no solutions. I still have faith that the American public can see this.

In a 1998 discussion Wayne LaPierre stated he believed Pres. Clinton accepted a certain level of violence to push his antigunners agenda, so this is nothing new.
Also not new is the antis will use everything they can against us even if we think the statement is reasonable.
As for Ms. Loesch's statement, every time there's a mass shooting, be it Mandalay Bay, or Parkland Florida, the media turn it to a circus.
Chicago Illinois is experiencing a veritable crime wave of gang murders, usually either black or Hispanic ..... the media barely touches on this.
Tell me how Dana Loesch is wrong?
It will get the libs screeching, for sure, I guess .... but they don't like the truth to begin with.
Do we "play nice" and ignore or hide the truth .... is that what you want?
It sounds like it to me.

You are not going to prevail in our current environment by being a milquetoast.

Yes, the fact that each time there is terrorist attack on our soil involving AR-15 or similar weapon we loose more and more ground. Unless we can recruit more gun lovers from all parties and walks of life long-term we are basically doomed.

I have no love for Dana Loesch, I think she's only so involved with the NRA is because she's easy on the eyes and isn't a complete idiot. The NRA is just taking a play from Fox New's book in that respect, who is another hated source that's largely ignored by anyone who doesn't already watch them. That's not a good way to generate new membership. While her hardlined message might resonate with those of us that are already members of the NRA, it does no good for public relations and that's the NRA's problem at right now.

I think the NRA would do better to directly address "attacks" like this from the media. Yes, higher capacity magazines have the potential to cause more destruction. Yes, semi-automatic rifles have the potential to do more harm. But the vast majority of crimes are not committed using rifles with 30 round magazines. When you look at the numbers, it's an incredibly low number. There's no reason to take away the rights of 99.999% of law abiding citizens to possibly do something about 0.0001% of crime. If we want to make a significant difference in savings lives and addressing violence, going after modern sporting rifles is not the right way to do it.

Those same statistics that are being used against the NRA can also be used in their favor. They don't need a spokesperson, they need a debater.

And how well would a debater have fared in that ridiculous town hall meeting? They were chanting to burn her for Pete's dake, lol. Debate is an artifact of a forgotten era in this country, we are currently in the early (mostly verbal) stages of open political violence.

I just heard 50,000 people just joined the NRA over the weekend. If this is true, does it mean we're losing?

I heard it was new members, but the nature of news coverage these days is so .... uncertain ... I have to admit I can't be sure. It could be some mixture of new members and renewals, as well.

She should've spoken with her clenched fist of truth! I'm kidding...

I have nothing against her personally, just against her rabid conservatism, but she's not the best spokesperson for the NRA.

I'm Black and have been having these discussions for 40+ years.

I have ALWAYS found a great deal of racism on the anti-gun side, sometimes covert, sometimes blatant.

I always found that the most reliable way to have the most common racial slur for Black people hurled at me was to disobey a White anti-gun cultist when he ORDERED me to support invidiously racist gun controls.

They justified this by saying they were simply being "politically incorrect"... and that I was Black and didn't OBEY them.

Scratch an anti-gunner, find a Klansman... or a Nazi.

If they ban AR's-do they expect for you to take your AR & run it down to the police station?
A lot of them have fantasies of KILLING you and TAKING it.

To be fair, a lot of them seem to have fantasies of just putting you in a CONCENTRATION CAMP and taking it.

Had one of those once in usenet. He professed to be an ROTC cadet at a college the name of which he disclosed, and spoke as a representative of the United States Army. Several of us emailed his Professor of Military Science and asked if he was an OFFICIAL representative of that school's ROTC Department. The PMS replied that he wasn't. Strangely, his threats to gun owners abruptly terminated...

Slightly off the beaten track, I went out to a restaurant that is very heavily patronized by seasonal people (snowbirds). It was cool, so I wore my leather jacket with the NRA Life Member patch and had 3 compliments on it and no snide remarks or 'thumbs down' type of comments. One fellow remarked that is was good to see an NRA member "flying the NRA colors".
I don't know what it means, but is has been a long time since anyone has commented on this jacket at all.

I'm going to have to disagree with the OP and some here. I think Loesch has been doing a pretty good job in a tough situation. At the CNN Town Hall, I thought she was articulate and incredibly well prepared; in several instances pulling out facts of previous murders and gun control at ease in rebuttal. As far as the NRA's choice, I could hardly think they'd do better. She's not a rich white boy, nor a "redneck". She will bring more females into consideration of the NRA as something they could join. But most of all, I think that the audience and Tapper probably had a harder time being "mean" to her than they could have if it was one of the NRA brass. Probably didn't make much difference for the pompous Sheriff she debated, but he's going to get his karma back in spades as the facts come out.

Watching some videos of her....I find her kind of off-putting. Dunno why.

I think she (and the NRA) would do better to have a pair of spokespersons, instead of just a single voice of advocacy. Like, if she were paired with Colion Noir, and they could advocate as a duet, it would be much more effective IMO.

I attended the new hire orientation at my job yesterday.

As usual, I had my NRA ballcap.

Leaving the meeting, the HR director complemented me on my attire.

I guess SHE hasn't bought into the LIE, "You don't need a gun, the police will 'protect' you."

Not a leather jacket but a quilted flannel coat with patches from Ruger, Remington, North American Hunting Club, Hornady, and both a plain NRA on the back and an Endowment patch on a shoulder. Plus a few more. :D

Really. Who do you think paid for the busses, hotels, meals and airline flights to D.C.?

I've seen this sort of bandwagon rolling in my country under similar circumstances and when it gets going it doesn't matter whether you speak up or keep quiet, there's not a darned thing you can do to change the tune.
